No catch at all. I've been happy with KBeevapor.
I've mainly used KP, Lightning, and Temco in that order by volume. All 3 of those have been without any issues. Kidney Puncher really is in a class by itself though.

I do remember a couple years ago now, some folks here talking about KB being dirty. Sometimes. I didn't remember which company it was. However, that's been a while and anybody can improve. I might be willing to try it, but why oh WHY can't they have THIS high gauge bundle in 316L?

Yeah, I mostly wanted to see the mass of those coils... seems it’s going to be a ton regardless of correct Input

The amount of metal can always be reduced by going for 1 less ribbon strand while at the same time also replacing the 28g frames with 29g. That plus the fact Ni80 ramps up a little bit faster compared to SS 316L so what I found was, on a stacked mech I get great performance with a single coil fralien that's 5ply .3×.1 using 29g for the frames, 38g for the alien wrap wire... here it is at 3.5mm ID in the 24mm Deathtrap RDA.

I just installed the first fralien I ever made in an Aromamizer Lite RTA.

I made some (3x26/36) N80 aliens a few days ago. I made 4 good ones and two that didn't look as good. This is one of the lesser attractive ones in an Elder Dragon.

Thank you Kingpin and the rest of you guys. Making hand made coils was kind of my final frontier. I got into mixing juice years ago and squonking last year. I've always envied people who could make really nice coils. I'm still kind of shocked at my creations. I feel supported here so thanks again. I'll keep trying my best.

Hi everyone, newbie coil builder from the U.K. here. Thanks for having me in your community.

I started attempting to build coils about three weeks ago, after getting hooked on the idea through a few YouTube vids. Bought some wire and swivels and went at it. First up:
SSFC - 8 ply .4, 28g frames, 38g fuse. All Ni80:
GK7V3Il.jpg

Showing some colour in my Hadaly (please excuse the crappy coiling):
c6tpXvW.jpg

Took aaages to get the wire right as the frames weren’t well aligned. Got there in the end though, I just won’t be doing another one for a while.

Next I was really intimidated to try aliens but over the last couple of nights I’ve given it a go. This is where I got to last night (3x26g/36g wrap all SS316L):

I think aliens are a trickier skill to pick up but once you’ve got the knack a straight forward three core stick is pretty quick to bang out (compared with a SSFC at least). I’m thinking of trying a fralien next - any tips on what configuration I should go for?

Thanks again and looking forward to contributing here.

Welcome. It greatly depends on what atomizer you intend to use, but I have been getting excellent results with 29g Ni80 for the frames, .3×.1 Ni80 for the ribbon stack, and, as for the alien wrap wire, 38g gives a smoother vape, whereas 36g gives it a pleasant texture. You can also get away with 28g for the frames if going for at least 5ply .3×.1 if the alien wrap is done tight enough so that the ribbon stays vertical when you coil it up. The easiest way to get the first and last wrap to be tidy is to coil it up farther than the number of wraps that you require, and then pull off the extra wraps─or portions thereof─on either end of the coil.

Very nice intro. Welcome to the Vu. Great looking coils. I love some staple staggered fc. I just despise building them. Definitely my nemesis coil.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone, it's much appreciated.

@gsmit1 - Yeah I guess so, although there are a couple of things to point out:

1 - The SSFC is about a week or so old
2 - I'm not showing any of the abominations that spun up off my drill in that time, just the good stuff. Believe me there has been a fair amount of wire consigned to the scrap bin in order to get this far :)

@Carambrda - thanks for raising such good points. I use regulated mods and squonkers, vape DTL and will probably drop the first successful fralien in my Citadel (22mm single coil dripper). I've also got a Loop 1.5 (dual coil 24mm) that will require new coils soon so need to consider that one as well. To complicate matters somewhat, although I do have a fair selection of round wire gauges I only have .4 ribbon at the moment. I'm looking to add .3 and .5 to the list - probably next week. Can you offer any suggestions on a fralien configuration with what I've currently got? Other configurations I'm keen to try are 5 core SFC and adding some more cores to an alien (say 5 x 30g/40g) but as I'm still finding my feet they all look quite compelling to try in one way or another.

@MrMeowgi - I'm on your side bro. In my very limited experience they can be so time consuming it's unreal. Vape absolutely amazing though. When I swapped out the coilology framed staple I had in my atty for that one above, the flavours just went up a level and then some.

That's still awfully impressive lad :D

Thank you for your kind words @gsmit1! When I quit smoking about 2 years ago, I thought of vaping as being nothing more than a smoking cessation tool. I should have known that like most things in life, it carries with it the potential for being a bit of a rabbit hole. I've been making my own juice for about a year I guess and have been using rebuildables for about 18 months. It seems inevitable to me that I will end up making a few mods as well at some point but I'd like to continue enjoying the coil building tunnel a little longer before I dive down that one as well!

For the Citadel maybe try 7ply .4×.1 Ni80 with 26g Ni80 frames, at 6 full wraps and 3.5mm ID. I don't know about the Loop 1.5, but this same config might work in there as well, if you turn that into a dual coil with 5.5 wraps at 3mm ID or something like that, or maybe just wait until you get that spool of .3×.1 Ni80 ribbon wire.

Thanks for that @Carambrda. Can I get my decore off a 26g wire for that configuration? That's the largest I have right now.

Cheers @KingPin! Like I say above, if it seems good for now that's because I didn't share the failures along the way (and there were a few of those). I am pleased with the successes though, I can't lie about that.

No, I'm afraid not. You need 24g for this, but 26g does work for quad-core 28g aliens.
Thanks @Carambrda, I took your suggestion and spun up an all Ni80, 7” stick of 4x28g/38g (was meant to be 10” but I under cooked my decore by a couple of inches):

wrapped up:

Some colour:
gmYnaez.jpg

I had to burn through most of the blues while getting the hot spots out (of which there were more than any of the other coils I’ve made so far). I’m vaping on it now and it’s producing great flavour, really, really good. .26 ohms and I’m putting 58w through it.

First go at fraliens today.
I found that the prep time was longer than regular aliens, mainly due to how fiddly it is to keep the ribbon stack vertical but that wrapping was more straightforward than 4 or 5 core aliens as the cores seem less prone to collapse. My spec is 28g frames, 6 ply .3 ribbon and 36g alien wrap. All Ni80 apart from SS316L for the wrap wire:

In situ:
j1IZK5R.jpg

Some colours:
YL4bScE.jpg

It’s vaping very nicely at the moment I must say. I’m planning on trying 8 or 10 ply in the next couple of days. Anything I should bear in before having a crack at those?

Those look amazing.

Sent from a pile of wood chips
Thank you sir! Those are from a couple of years ago. Haven't built hardly anything in quite a while.
Those may look "amazing", but they're actually pretty easy to make. It's just 3 strands (kanthal, stainless steel, nichrome) that are twisted, hammered, then polished. Then colored by pulsing.

Lil bit of 3.5mm Aliens in the Asgard

Might redo them... these have a little to much mass imo for the Odin250C... that delay but it Vapes great

If it ramps up too slow, then IMO just use the preheat function (power curve) in the EScribe software.

Sup vape fam, hope you all been well. Granted most y’all don’t remember me most likely lol! Hope you all been well, and you are making the most out out our current times. Back on the drill, after about a 1.5yr hiatus. Like riding a bike, good to be back! Stay cloudy ????

Stuck an alien in my Requim.

I haven't been spinning much lately. It's been weeks but today I tried staggered fused claptons. I've never made or even vaped with one. SS 24ga with 36ga.
20210115_181854.jpg

I used the button trick. I'm not sure if that's the best way to do it or what. If there's something easier I'd like to know it.

I could see inconsistencies as they happened, in some part of one of my sticks. I couldn't see it but now I know what happened. Instead of one on one wraps, two got trapped inside the wrap.I think it's because the one side couldn't stretch anymore. I took a photo of what I mean but Im sure you've seen or done this-

My second set I ever made

Made a few more sets since... but still prefer simple aliens mostly due to time constraints

Very nice. Yes, the prep and tedium would be prohibitive for me too.

I'm on my way! Posted this in my having trouble with staggered thread:
657832m.jpg

0BbXOUi.jpg

Staggered builds are a whole new avenue I've been trying. I fly through aliens as fast as my drill can go it seems like sometimes. I had to slow everything way down to start having success with just regular staggered claptons. I was really having trouble with smaller gauges but Im doing better now. I made 2x28/40+40 SFC's today.
0eBFTJD.jpg

qyvwsOH.jpg

If you don't make these let me know, I can mail you some. The flavor is outstanding. I tried a 3x28/38 alien coil in my Druga RTA and it seemed good. I switched it out for a 2x28+38 staggered fused clapton and it's amazing now. For whatever reason the SFC was a better "fit" for that particular tank. I got one in one of my E.Dragons now too. The flavor is just intense.

I'll probably never be able to make the kind in the photo you posted though 😁 .

Edit- I just noticed I posted a month ago about started staggered builds. I've made significant strides since then.
