Top 5 Foods to Kick High Cholesterol

Heart disease is the world’s leading cause of death.

Having high cholesterol levels, especially “bad” LDL, is linked to an increased risk of heart disease. Low levels of the “good” HDL cholesterol and high triglyceride measures are also linked to increased risk.

While many people resort to harsh drugs to combat cholesterol, those in the know realize that your diet has a powerful effect on cholesterol levels and other cardiovascular risk factors.

Here are 5 of the top foods that can lower cholesterol and improve heart health naturally:
  • Legumes: Legumes, also known as pulses, are a group of plant foods that includes beans, peas and lentils. Legumes contain a lot of fiber, minerals and protein. Replacing some refined grains and processed meats in your diet with legumes can lower your risk of heart disease.
  • Avocados: Avocados are an exceptionally nutrient-dense fruit. They're a rich source of monounsaturated fats and fiber — two nutrients that help lower “bad” LDL and raise “good” HDL cholesterol.
  • Fish: Fatty fish, such as salmon and mackerel, are excellent sources of long-chain omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3s bolster heart health by increasing “good” HDL cholesterol and lowering inflammation and stroke risk.
  • Berries: Many fruits contain bioactive compounds that help prevent heart disease and other chronic diseases due to their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. Eating berries and grapes, which are particularly rich sources of these plant compounds, can help increase “good” HDL and lower “bad” LDL cholesterol.
  • Turmeric: The medicinal properties of turmeric's active ingredient, curcumin, have been recognized for centuries, and is a very promising natural remedy for inflammation, high cholesterol and heart disease.
One study used turmeric on a group of subjects with metabolic syndrome for 12 weeks. The patients showed a significant improvement in levels of “good” HDL, and a dramatic reduction in “bad” cholesterol, with a notable triglyceride-lowering effect.

Another study on patients with type 2 diabetes showed significant reductions in serum levels of total cholesterol and elevations in HDL cholesterol, re-balancing the overall blood lipid profile.

Trying to figure out all the answers to your problems at once can leave you feeling overwhelmed. Release control. Trust that you’ll be okay no matter what circumstances come your way.

Drop the rigid expectations. Open yourself to all sorts of wonderful possibilities that you can't see right now because you are so attached to one path. When you let go, you feel more calm, and peaceful.

*-- Tips for Exercising in Summer Heat --*

No, you may not be racing in the desert, but there are some things to keep in mind when it comes to exercising in the heat:

- The time of day is important. Unless you are training for an event that takes place in the daytime heat, avoid exercising from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It's the hottest part of day. Generally, the early morning is the best time to workout, especially if it's going to be scorcher that day.

- Wear loose, light-colored. The lighter color will help reflect heat, and cotton material will help the evaporation of sweat. You may also want to try specially designed, "hi-tech" running shirts and shorts. They are often made from material meant to keep you cool.

- Sunscreen is a must. I use SPF 45 just to be safe. It's important to protect your skin. You can get burned and suffer sun damage to your skin even on cloudy days.

- Stay hydrated. Before you go out, drink a glass or two of water. Carry a bottle of water or even a hydration pack. Take a drink every 15 minutes, even when you're not thirsty. When you're done with your workout, have a few more glasses of water.

- Replenish your electrolyte and salt intake while exercising.

- If you can, choose shaded trails or pathways that keep you out of the sun.

- Check the weather forecast before you start your workout. If there's a heat advisory, meaning high ozone and air pollution, you might want to take your workout indoors. These pollutants can damage your lungs.

- Most importantly, listen to your body. Stop immediately if you're feeling dizzy, faint or nauseous.

Hey, Jimi.
A ketogenic diet is well known for being a low-carb diet, where the body produces ketones, which are byproducts or the result of using fat for fuel instead of carbs (or glucose/sugar).
These ketones or byproducts are produced in the liver to be used as energy.
It really works for some people and health situations and it can be absolutely devastating for others.

Today’s Food as Medicine show explains:

  • How It Works
  • Top Six Reasons To Go Ketogenic
  • Symptoms of Early Ketosis (Is it worth it?)
  • The Basic Keto Diet - Foods to Eat
  • Foods NOT to Eat
  • A Typical Ketogenic Day
  • Pros and Cons Unique to YOU
There are so many diametrically opposed nutritional theories out there, and your job is to sort through what sounds good for your unique body and current state of health.
What works for one person does not necessarily work for another.
Leave a comment and let us know what you think will work for YOU.

It's Throwback Thursday Jimi!
(Let's pretend it's Thursday)
"If you wanna have cancer, ice cream is a good food to eat"
-John Robbins
How's that for an opener?
John Robbins knows a little bit about ice cream. Burt Baskin, his uncle, and Irv Robbins, his father, founded the biggest ice cream company in the world. They even have them in Russia...
image
John was the sole heir of his fathers share of the company, but he walked away from an ice cream empire because he did not want to make money “selling a product that provides momentary pleasure at the expense of people’s long term health.”
And not only did John not take over the family business, but he also insisted that his father not give him a trust fund or an inheritance.
In the years that followed, John followed his passion and paved his own way in the world as a health and wellness pioneer. He has authored numerous bestselling books on health and nutrition including Diet For A New America, The Food Revolution, and Healthy at 100.
John Robbins is a legend and personal health hero of mine. So of course, it is an absolute thrill to share this interview with you.
Enjoy this fun and fascinating interview with John Robbins...

Victory: Spain’s Constitutional Tribunal rules against a regional law permitting mandatory vaccination

Its looking like here we will have "Yes you can travel if vaccinated and no if you are not. Yes you can go to sporting events if you are vaccinated, no if you are not, Yes you can go to work environments if you are vaccinated, no if you are not" and so on. Is a real push and growing acceptance of this narative here by the majority. Our public is quickly turning into sheeple and turning on each other.
I am hearing of crazy amounts of people dobbing in others and reporting people for not wearing a mask or visiting others. Even though there are many who cant for legit reasons wear a mask or visit others for legit compassionate reasons, all which is lawful! Its sickening to see and hear about. I see older people without a mask, I think "ok you may have breathing issues, health issues, younger ones ok mayebe you have mental health issues thats ok" But I see people give them dirty looks or complain about them to the register people or managers. Its sick, compassion has given way to paranoia and hate, report your neighbor, call the police, hate hate hate.. Our society is falling apart.
Old people challenged, I see it, "Did you QR code check in? Show me!"
If I was my old self from yrs ago Id be wanting to knock someone out every day now for the disrespect they are showing to others let alone me.
Its going nuts.
The other day here some thinks he's a world watchdog legend radio guy, Ray Hadley, shock jock pig, dobbed in two people who live opposite him to the police, posted it on social media shaming them publicly, as well as on radio. Posting the video and images of them. The crime? Murder? Assault? No. They had 2 friends without covid come to say happy birthday.
Iv seen our elderly neighbors have a friend come to check and say hi, so what! Another over the road sister drop by to say hi, so what! Do I call the swat team, film them and shame them? Id be a dog to do so but it seems this is what we are expected to do now and get applauded for. It sickens me to the core to see how people are becoming now.
Check it out! What evil monsters, wicked criminals, filthy scums. Charge them, fine them, jail them!
Pathetic..............

I agree 100%, they are scum to do that. What business of theirs is it anyway? People like that should be publically beaten to an inch of their lives
