Nice work there @Lady Sarah! I love smoked critters and I would love to get a stick burner. Convincing the wife I need another smoker is a different story. :D
In a world where most folk want the latest thing, those pellet smokers are selling like hotcakes. But, you have to buy the pellets, and you have to plug those things into an electric outlet. Pellets made from glues-together sawdust?

We have pecan trees. Branches fall. The wood is free. It makes food taste better.

Plus when the next hurricane comes through and no one for miles has any power, you will be cooking pig and steer and chicken and ribs and homemade Mac and cheese. Brownies and cornbread, even.

Gadgets. Bah!

Making good progress on the smoker for the neighbor. Got the firebox in place, and the door made today. The picture shows one week worth of progress. Not shown in the picture is the end of the firebox with the vent, which I made from 11 guage steel. The end is of the same diamond plate as the end of the cooking chamb

And so... hubby saw a specialist about his busted paw. As it turns out, hitting the solid pine door I paid twenty bucks for at a yard sale somewhere around 15 years ago was not smart. He split his knuckle. They want to wait a week for the swelling to go down before putting him in a cast. Right now, they can only do a splint.

Still, nobody is faulting him for what he did. His bitch sister didn't tell him for 4 fucking days their mom died! That's some cold hearted shit. I bet she spent the time hoarding everything of value out of her mother's house.

Finally got this smoker finished up. Will be gifting it to the neighbor tomorrow, after I know the 1200°F barbecue paint is properly cured. The 440 VOLT stickers are just because I have a sense of humor, and my neighbor won't be wanting anyone messing with it anyways.

Morning -

I'm sorry that I haven't been posting, but I have been reading.

I've had 5 major losses in 18 months, all closest to my heart. I'm getting help, which is hard for me to ask for, and it's slowly working. I'm trying to focus on all the love and good memories, being grateful that they were in my life.

You all here, and my other vaping friends, are a big part of my days. I'm very glad to be able to come here and spend time with you all.

Stay happy and healthy :inlove:

Morning!

It's going to be another hot one today. I got a burst of energy yesterday - vacuumed, did laundry, mopped floors, made yogurt in the Instant Pot. Maybe Spring cleaning bug? There's more to do but it will still be here tomorrow, right?
I have a pile of coils to rebuild that takes precedence today.

Jessie is shedding so much fur! I brush her every 2 days, don't want to irritate her skin. I get piles of fur. I do it out on the deck so the breeze can blow away the bits that don't get caught by the brush. She loves it, must feel so good.

Stay healthy and happy :inlove:

Our neighbors had one of their trees die on them. Hubby and I decided to do them a favor. All we got left is to cut down the trunk and cut that up. Of course, hubby is only doing what he can with his hand in a cast. What has been done so far was done with an electric pole saw and cordless saws (to cut up branches).

Morning!

I had another attack of Spring cleaning. Did too much and am paying for it now, ouch! The place looks better, though.

I'm brushing Jessie, gently, every day now. Temps are up to high 80's and 90* now, and she has a lot of fur and undercoat. She loves it. I have to use 2 brushes because she rubs her cheeks on one while I brush with the other, lol.

Next up is mixing more of my 2 ADV's. Can NOT run out!

I hope you all are doing well.

Stay safe and happy

Some of y'all might like squirrels. Some of y'all might even feed the little tree rats. Our little town had an interesting time last night when one squirrel decided it had enough of the world. It took about an hour and a half for crews to replace the primary transformer on the other end of town.

It's a good thing I got flashlights that use li-ion batteries I can recharge.

Y'all don't even want to hear what I have to say about a person who would treat you that way, knowing at least some of the circumstances. I believe I'd take my chances on a judge with some human kindness and empathy, and go for the S8 right flippin now.

I'm thrilled to hear that you finally have a voucher, and hope everything goes absolutely perfectly for you to get settled in and ready for a better life in your new place. Congratulations!

Hubby and I just got done shopping with the "city wide" yard sales in town. We got some sweet deals, including Ryobi tools, a sandblaster, a Cricut, and an old bowie knife with stag horn handle. Everything we got cost us less than 10% of what it would have cost new. We had the bed of my truck packed full. We had fun, met up with old friends, and made new acquaintances.

Sounds like you found yard sales that my hubbs would love to find. Tools, omg, he is a crazy man for tools. lol

How is your Hubby's hand doing?

Here's to vaping on the balcony. 1687067652312.png If I were you, I'd keep any vaping stuff or cigs where nobody would see them if they came by to pay a visit or whatever. Section 8 folks can be real assholes when they want to be. If they see it, they might assume you are doing it indoors. If there are no restrictions on vaping on the balcony, you have a win.

Get yourself a big toolbox with a shelf in the top. Put actual screwdrivers and pliers in the shelf and the vape gear underneath. I use a big toolbox for my BB bits and bobs and it works great.

Surely those people don't have a right to come in and search through your stuff for things that aren't immediately visible.

Great idea! I have been using one for my vape bits for a while myself. Keeps everything neat and organized. In Sect. 8, spray some paint on it, toss some rusty tools in the top section, and the landlord / managers will probably leave it alone. Put a padlock on it if you have to.

This is mine:

Welcome to summer. As of the moment I am posting this, this is the temperature where I live.

View attachment 205642

Never mind the date on the gadget. We got sick and tired of resetting it a long time ago.

I heard yesterday that parts of Texas were having that horrible heat. My grandson is in the midst of all that, too.

I hope you're spending most of your time inside.

It sucks that the AC in my truck is shot to hell and needs to be replaced. That means I have to drive with windows down to go anywhere during daytime hours. Doing anything else outside means waiting until sunset, applying mosquito repellant, and doing it then. It is so hot that I no longer hit bugs with my truck during the daytime. Not even the insects are getting out in the heat.

Sure am glad I'm not going to the panhandle anymore. Here in central Cali it's 50's in the morning and 80's during the day this week. I'm sure we will get our 110+ soon enough.

I'm working from home this week and next. Then I'm done as I'm retiring 30 June. I've had enough of leaving my house at 3am every Monday to get to the airport and dealing with TSA. My new job is gardening, BBQ, and spoiling the grand kids.

We've been having a fly problem, especially with the dog letting flies in through the doggy door by holding it open when I cook meals. Picture his body outside, and enough of his face inside that he can smell what's cooking.

I decided to get Bug-A-Salt guns to deal with flies landing in places where it is impossible to hit them with a flyswatter. Accuracy out of the box sucks. I fixed that issue with an extended barrel modification, making the entire unit 8 inches longer. It is now much more accurate and deadly to small insects. This is the 3.0 version.

Morning!

I just got home from SIL's, he's in Ohio for a few weeks. He has 4 cats that need food, water and litterbox care. I never see 2 of them, pretty feral still. Third will come around but no touchy! My grandson is Thor, a 12 year old maine **** that is so handsome. He is so lovey and affectionate. He misses his mama, my daughter, so much, he lays his head on my shoulder and just sighs. As soon as I step into my house I have to strip down, clothes go right in the washer. Sooo much cat hair. Long, fine, wispy stuff. Puts Jessie's shedding to shame, lol.

Other than that, it is just so hot! All 100*s, today is 110*. I don't go anywhere I don't have to, and then it's as early as possible. I'm so thankful the shop was able to fix the a/c in my van a few months ago. Even Jessie doesn't go out until about 4am.

Stay safe and healthy

What a perfect name for a Maine C@@n! Thor, I love it!

I sure miss my MC. His name was Mo. We lost him just in the last couple of months, and I miss him so much. He was a little over 15 years old.

Morning!

I showed my airhead side this morning. Got up early and it was nice and cool, thought it was a good time to go to a store on the other side of town. I totally forgot that it's UFO Festival/Alien Fest Days!!! OMG, the amount of people and traffic, some streets blocked off. I turned myself around real quick and headed back home so fast! No way I'm going through that mess. We went to the 50 year anniversary one, back when. That was plenty. Very fun and interesting, but I'm old enough to know better now. Hotel rooms jammed, eateries crammed, not my thing anymore.

So, we had a washing machine go out. It was one of those new-fangled POS machines that weighs the clothes, and costs over $200 to be repaired even if it's minor. The good news is that we have an old one we got at an estate sale (cheap) just in case. That one does not have all that computerized crap in it.

Hubby and I decided to tear down the POS for anything salvageable. Maybe he can use the motors and the pump, if they are still good. Most of it got cut up and put in the trash bin. The shell got repurposed as a kindling box to hold sticks from our pecan trees. We are smoking baby back ribs for the 4th of July.

I'm now retired from the work force! Still working at home though... Honey do's that had piled up are keeping me busy...

Things that I have learned dealing with Social Security here in the USA:

To apply for Social Security retirement benefits they want you to do it online at: https://www.ssa.gov/ It's pretty easy to apply, just read the information on applying so you have all the info needed to fill out the form.

They say it takes 2 to 4 weeks from when you apply for benefits for approval. Nope, that ain't gonna happen. It's more like 2 to 4 months. I ended up calling my Congress critter's office to poke SSA for me.

If you didn't get Medicare Part B when you turned 65 because you were still working and covered through the company policy make sure you get From CMS-L564 filled out by your company. You will need that to get Medicare when you retire and not have to wait for the December sign in period... That form will create what's called a Special Enrollment Period (SEP). Here's the link: https://www.cms.gov/Medicare/CMS-Forms/CMS-Forms/Downloads/CMS-L564E.pdf

Back when we moved into this house, we put new plywood down on the kitchen floor, and then glued down tiles. Our wonderful dog thinks those tiles are delicious, and has been ripping them up and eating them.

Today, while hubby is on paid vacation, we starting putting down new flooring. The dog should not be able to destroy this, since it installs like Pergo, but is waterproof vinyl, and is pre-padded. We got most of it done today. We should be able to finish some time tomorrow.

Morning!

Not much to report from here, it's been way too hot to do much of anything. We hit 111* a few times, mostly been hanging around 107* or so. The only reason I go outside is because I have to pick up prescriptions or go feed and water SIL's cats. I even signed up for Walmart's 1/2 off delivery service! They brought my groceries right up my porch to the front door, knocked to let me know they were there before they left. Well worth the $50. for a year, with this weather.

I've started to listened to an audiobook series, again. 3rd time for listening though I've read the books in print before. There are 58 books in the series now, makes housework, building coils, etc. easier for me. Hey, it keeps me out of trouble, lol.

We have many of our group in heat, flood, storm, etc. areas. Please be safe and check in once in a while, I worry about you guys.

Stay safe and healthy

Since it's been getting into the range of 115 to 120 degrees every day, I've been staying inside all day trying to find things to stay busy. Hubby and I happen to have a couple of gel blaster guns that were begging to be stylized. They were plain white with bright green markings.

He wanted his black with red. The other one is mine.

Morning!

I'm off of cat sitting duty, SIL got back on Sunday. As much as I enjoyed the kitties, I didn't care for all of the running back and forth in the heat. And having to strip down as soon as I got in the door at home and clean up. Maine **** kitty fur coated me every visit! My Jessie wasn't too happy about it either, lol.

SIL is coming over later to fix my outside faucet - someone unhooked the hose and messed up trying to hook it back up. I'd like to know who. Anyway, my trees and green stuff need water. We're still in the 100's here.

I'm off to make another batch of yogurt in the Instant pot. So easy and delicious.

Stay safe and healthy

I'm still, it's still too hot out. I do what I must as early as possible.

I messed up yesterday. I hate shopping but I really needed some new tops. My favorites are getting pretty bad, don't want to be seen getting the mail in them! So I decided to go to Marshall's. I haven't been there since they opened 3 years ago, might get lucky. Hmmm, pretty busy, must be good stuff in there, right? I found a few things and head to the register - OMG! there are 6 cashiers and lines! Then I saw the signs "tax-free weekend". No wonder it's so crowded. I hate shopping....

Yesterday was mildly irritatiting. We hit the record for the hottest day of the year so far, at 125°F. I stayed indoors with the AC, and had my appointment with my migraine doctor over the phone, because it's too hot to drive that far this time of year for a 5 minute appointment that can be done over the phone.

Later, I heard thunder for the first time in months. I checked outside, and (sure enough) we had a thundercloud overhead. The barometric pressure had dropped, but the temperature was still 108°F, and the humidity was at 28%, so I knew no rain was going to hit the ground.

Our lawn is a lovely shade of brown. Every day is another day of extreme heat warnings and fire weather watches. But, it gives me plenty of time to prepare for the haunted house.

......and this afternoon, we got hit by a "dangerous thunderstorm". We got winds over 60mph blowing rain horizontally, and throwing branches out of trees. The power line running from the pole to the house got whipped around hard enough to rip the insulator from the house. It's still being held on by a cable. We are waiting for the power company to dispatch someone to fix it. We got 3/4" of rain from that storm.

Morning!

Well, we're back up to the high temps again. Had a few "cooler" days, 88* & 89*, felt good! Had all the doors open for awhile and got some fresh air in here.

I'm back to listening to audiobooks. Third time for this 56? book series. By the time I get through it there will be another new one! I can do all kinds of stuff while listening, great for boring stuff like exercising, cooking, stitching the slice in the sheet (thanks, Jessie) and cleaning.

Stay safe and healthy :inlove::hug::hug:
