My doctors office is finally letting people come in. No more telemed calls. Plus in August I can now get the injections I have been waiting so long for. That will be a tremendous help. Hooray!

For my part there will be no mud-slinging and trash talk in this thread today. I apologize to everyone here who was not the target of my rant, but that got hit by it anyway.

We are still staying home for the most part, and it is boring as anything now, but what ya gonna do? I'm not ready to go back out into the world. Hubbs is gone to town right now to get some sprayers to use in the yard. He is good about wearing a mask when he's out.

We both had birthdays last week so we did more than our share of eating - grilled pork chops one night, grilled London broil, cake, pie. I feel like a roly-poly even now. I did just finish a lovely bagel for breakfast, topped with way too much honey-pecan cream cheese. It was yum. (Eliquid recipe ideas come from the strangest places.....honey....pecan.....cream cheese....?....doughnut!!!)

Found out yesterday that my youngest daughter and her fella are planning to get married. I think they are going to try to wait out the virus, if that turns out to be possible, so that the families can get together to celebrate. I am thrilled for both of them; they have lived together for about two years now and have seemed very happy with each other.

Hope you are all staying safe and that you and your families are healthy.

As the us approaches a 1% infection rate. Statistically that means for every 100 people 1 is infected.

It is of course not spread evenly around the country, yet. which means that if you are in a high infection rate area those possibly infected around may be well over 10%....
Some areas are seeing a 15% infection rate for those tested when just a month ago is was closer to 1%.

And a far higher infection rate is needed for herd immunity.
And if herd immunity is reached it will not be for the entire country at the same time. We will have rolling hotspots for some time.

Also herd immunity does not make it impossible to get Covid. Just less likely.

Be careful be safe.

I just read an Internet article stating that herd immunity BEGINS at 40% but often 85-90% immunity is required for the herd-action to work.

All of that conversation may be moot, though, if the virus continues to mutate. This is what made HIV so difficult to fight - it had the ability to mutate unpredictably, and doctors/scientists spent years chasing it around.

from what I understand the mechanism they are looking to use to fight COVID is by attacking the protein spike it uses to latch on to tissue. To date none of the mutations have effected that protein spike, meaning any and all work being done treat COVID remain the same.

Yep kinda like them chasing various strains of the flu with the annual flu shots.
But is more difficult typically with RNA virus.

Actually there are several different vaccine approaches being developed/tried.
Hopefully one or more will succeed.

True that!
I know of two on stage 3 human trials.
next step after that is approval and manufacturing...
God, I hope at least one of those probes effective and safe and gets though soon.

Another point, the elderly for the most part will always be susceptible to the corona virus.
Not enough of them survive to generate herd immunity for the bingo crowd.
Unless an effective and safe vaccine is developed for them to take.

All the more reason for us elderlies to continue to go jukin and partyin with the young folks. We just have to stop hanging out with the dangerous Bingo crowd!

@f1r3b1rd that is great news indeed that there is apparently a stable characteristic that scientists can use as a target for a weapon against corona. I had not read about it at that level of detail. Good to know!

LOL but the young are the main spreaders of the disease.
Besides I cannot tolerate Rap or Hip Hop stuff. :gaah:
disclaimer: I have never set foot inside a bingo hall.

A completely non partisan thought on reopening schools.
What happens when too many teachers and school workers get covid for the school to function?

Morning!

We are getting some groceries and stuff this morning, all this week will be in the 100's. Up to 110*!
Mornings only for outside stuff. Hubby fairs better than I do, I'm the kind that turns into a lobster instead of tanning.

Jessie says hi, she's busy with her catnip. She munches a bit of it, then rolls around in it. Tracks it everywhere possible in the house. Strange places. Even floats it in her water dish.

Stay safe and healthy

I think they are working on different approaches for patent rights and money. Not for any noble cause.
but it is a good thing that they are pursuing different approaches.
Some may turn out to work better for for treatment of covid rather than prevention? Either one is a win.

For people seeking fame and fortune, being the first to bring something to market is more than enough motivation. If the byproduct of their desire is a treatment to stop the pandemic, by all means I wish them luck in their greed.

Checking in, all is good. My daughter is waiting on her test results for covid. She doesn't feel that sick but was exposed while at work. She works in a Casino in AZ. At least she is getting paid for 2 weeks while at home though.

Wow been a while since I have checked in:rolleyes:. Been pretty busy with my gardens and all. They are reporting more cases here, getting bad again. Not the second wave yet this one is due to common stupidity as they opened up more and the evergoin riots across the river and such. Don't have time to back read now but would like to know what's been happening.
Every one stay safe and healthy and definitely don't let your guard down;)
