Yeah, I never figured out if I was a bad parent, or a good parent. I monitored the computer my kids used when the came to visit, but my son never looked at anything more hardcore than swimsuit and lingerie models, so I never said a word. Hell I was looking at worse than that when I was a kid. I figured if he started looking at sites like those previously mentioned I'd talk to him but no point worrying about stuff that was tamer than the collection of Penthouse magazines I had stashed under my mattress growing up.

My daughter on the other hand I had a talk with, when I discovered her talking on one of the messenger services, probably Yahoo, about how she was gonna sneak out to meet some boy and spend the night with him. She was probably 14, maybe 15. Now that I think about it, that was probably the same time I decided that I didn't care if my ex had told her no about getting on birth control, I was gonna do what I could to keep her safe. I still laugh at how embarrassed she was when I gave her a condom.:D

Well, it sounds like you were/are a good dad to me. I caught my son on sites, don't get me wrong. And he was really embarrassed. I just don't remember the two mentioned above.

Well, back from the vacay and in catch-up mode.. :gaah:
Got three good nights for observing in at the end of the week after being rained on Tuesday and clouded-over on Wednesday. Monday was clear but we were tired from the drive and setup, and it was damp-cold so we turned in early. We all had a great time. :)
My 12.5" is worse for the wear: took a tumble in some gusty winds and landed right on the tube-end where the secondary mirror support spider mounts and blew the crap out of it. Managed to effect repairs to be usable, but it's the last straw with that behemoth and I'm going to turn it into a truss-tube Dob and get rid of that solid tube.

It's a lot of fun, and I've toyed with the idea of bigger than the 125, but I notice that as the mirrors get larger, so does the reluctance to drag it all out and set it up. Well, that and the trees have gone wild the past 10 years and I have to go find sky. Keep meaning to trek it to Iowa. No light pollution there! The milky way is in plain sight.
You should have seen the crew setting up the 41" (yes, 41 inch primary mirror!) scope. Six people wrestling the mirror box around on trailer jacks. But you're right: the less convenient to haul out and set up equals less usage. Part of why I want to convert that 12.5" into a truss scope. ;) I can be at a site with reasonably dark skies outside Seattle in under an hour. But my place is a total washout of the skies, and I have trees as well. Trying to observe through a small window of sky diminishes the appeal.
Have fun!!!!!
We did! Thanks! And so did 200+ other people at our event.
That's the only bad thing about our current location -- dead convenient to everything including my husband's work, which means... TONS of light pollution in the sky -- we're 2 miles from the CENTER of our town. I rarely even bother with the big meteor showers anymore, it's very unlikely that I'll be able to see anything at all.
Our location is just about three miles NW from SeaTac Airport. The light pollution is terrible and has gotten worse over the past decade. :( We did see some of the precursors to the Perseids on our trip, so I got my meteor shower fix for the year. ;)

I put a couple of pics from the event on our organization's website at tmspa.com Beautiful location in north-central WA and dark skies.

I've never heard of either of those. lol. Guess I'm naive.

I never have either, and I used to make porn websites. :giggle: I'm just so far past anything resembling lust, it's plumb pitiful. But restful, and I don't have that monthly emotional rollercoaster -- my husband and I BOTH appreciate that!!!

I do too, but, there is :coffee: and there is :coffee2:
Good point. However the slop at work is best poured down your throat as quickly as possible, and first thing in the morning I need :coffee2: to get moving, so other than when I'm relaxing at home on weekends, :coffee: is rare for me during the week.

I tried the SS in a wattage mode mod yesterday -- you're right, it does need considerably more power than a kanthal coil -- 10 wraps, right around 1ohm, plus or minus .02Ω, but I vape it around 12w, or, as this morning just outta bed, 11.5w -- it gives me a nice mild vape for times like straight outta bed when I really need that!

Yup, sounds about like mine :) What gauge of wire did you use?

28ga... seems to be the lowest I can tolerate; the one coil I made with 26ga was 10 wraps, but it was .65Ω, and SUPER hot... really hated it. Frankly as mild as I like to (have to!) vape, I was leery that any TC would work well for me, but if I stick to 28ga, 9 wraps or more, it's fine! With 9 wraps 28ga, I get about .8Ω, and that works out very well on my CF4-TC; quite cool enough for me, but really great TH and flavor -- it's the TH that I can't handle when I first get up, but once I break in my asthmatic lungs for the day, then TH and great flavor is really what I'm after. Just not heat or a lot of vapor.

I'm going to do a build tonight with 26G SS to see if I like it and I'll let you know about your offer btw :)

That is if the PO cuts loose with my baby Goon, lol

I have this mental image of you cradling that baby Goon to your bosom, crooning softly to it. :giggle:

ETA: since you like more airflow than I do, you may like that 26ga really well -- if I could handle more air, it probably wouldn't be too hot, but for my tight-draw MtL usage, it's just not suitable, so let me know!

Earlier today did a tri wrap 26 ga 4 mm ID 4 or 5 wraps. Vaped it on TC and was ok, went to wattage and at 35 watts its excellent.

Well... I'm gonna bitch some more about my Achilles 2, ok? $98 fucking dollars that piece of crap, thought I was supporting the authentic maker when I bought it, since I like the clones so well -- they are superior in every possible way to that piece of shit. It still leaks. I took off the bottom o-ring and had a good look at it today, not a damn thing wrong with it. So I thought it just wasn't "seated" properly, so I made sure it was hugging right around the bottom really nicely. Still fucking leaks. At this point, I'm thinking it doesn't have a damn thing to do with that o-ring, but with that cockamamie AFC ring he added to it, though the hex-key AF control worked just fine.

Just goes to show you, you should NEVER!!!!!!!!!!! fix what isn't fucking broken, because all you'll do is FUCK IT UP ROYALLY!!!!!!!!! Asshole!!!!! STUPID FUCKING ASSHOLE!!!!!!!!!!

But if that stupid fucking asshole would ever go back to making ORIGINAL Achilles, I'd probably go ahead and buy one.

Nothing like a $100 disappointment to get the juices flowing :blah:

No shit. And after i went to the trouble of fixing the too-airy airflow, with that perfectly lovely lil mod with the 13ga needle, and now it has a wonderful tight draw like the others... and it fucking leaks. I am so completely pissed, I'd like to throw it out the fucking window, but I'd probably hit somebody and have a worse problem.

I might see if I have any o-rings that will work better, but if it's not the o-ring, but the AFC that's leaking, it still won't help. :xD::headbang::xD:
