We are a nation afraid to upset one person about anything so we cave on everything. It's the absolute perfect recipe to create a country filled with nothing but whiny little bitches pissing and moaning about anything that hurts their little feelings.

Time to stick a fork in it, I think it's done.
Yep those that want to pray and those that don't.
Those that whine about welfare and socialism but eagerly accept free govt money. And those that get free money but keep on whining that they do not get enough.
Whine about rigged elections before it even happens.
Ohh I could go on and on....

That was a new low. Well, until the charity roast. How LOW can they go? I swear, they both shop at Sofa king...

Which begs the question of why she wanted the front door covered in reactive copper paint.
Andria

TWELVE years ago, I had copper gutters put on the house, and bought 2 gallons of real Copper paint to paint the doors, exterior light fixtures, and shutters so they would all patina together. It got put off... but it is time to have some work done on the exterior. Need a new roof, prolly do some stonework wainscoating and fresh siding. So, off come the light fixtures and shutters...

12 years???

And here I was, upset that we've had a perfectly nice ceiling fan in a box out in the garage that my aunt gave us to replace the broken one in our dining room, for something less than 5 yrs. I'm still trying to find the right lever to get him to take down the broken one and put up the nice one.

You got this right Mo...and I can't hardly wait until I rip my US passport up on the tarmac in South America.

What really pisses me off is the fact I can buy prescription drugs in Ecuador for less than the cost using my health insurance here, which pays about 60% of the (inflated) cost.

The exact same pharmaceutical companies charge 2/3 less what they charge here in the states in S. America....I can pay cash for the same prescription manufactured by the same company for less than what it costs to buy the drug here with insurance.

The people in Ecuador cannot sue a pharmaceutical company, therefore the price of prescription medications are incredibly low. This is one fucked up country we live in. Shit like this makes my blood boil.
We cannot sue the makers of vaccines.

The fixtures are much easier to paint WHEN removed.....that would be my excuse.....:giggle:....

Ah. Allow me to interject a humble apology, some minor clarification. I'm atheist in the sense that I hold to no religion at all except common sense, reason, objective truth, love. That to me is how atheism was taught, "you hold no theism, religion."

Do sincerly apologize if stating I'm atheist touched off a minor spark, was not the intention at all in any way. I keep the open mind view that as long as you're not forcing yours down my throat, harming yourself or others, believe or don't believe what you want. To that end for me it is mainly a private thing for each individual.

I was making fun of myself with some self depreciating sarcastic humor. I did make a goof on the two prayers. Likely forgot due to some news I got today. Phoned my mom and talked about a half hour. She said my grandma is "about at the end of the old timer's", so I asked before we hung up 'good, bad'? "Mixed. She has some better clarity but she's downhill." So yeah a bit 'distracted', human. :|

What? If I slacked more than USUAL, the Mrs. could have me declared dead and take all my stuff!

Lol.. she spent the last 2 days painting the front door with reactive copper paint. I rode my bikes and... well, I was here. When it was dry, I offered to take the masking tape off. Good thing no frying pans were nearby...
lol - reactive... premonition?

Doc, your asking for another heart PROBLEM?..........:giggle:

None of my doctors went over my eating habits or told me what I can or can not eat so pizza, wings and beer are still on the menu :teehee:

Sadly that is not always a good recipe. Around 7 pm I was comfortable in my recliner with a full belly and around 5 beers in me when I dozed off. Over 5 hours later here I am wide awake...........

Yeah it got to the point where I don't even watch the news anymore because of all of it. Every other story is someone whining about something someone did that upset them and must be put to an end. By people who know exactly how to use an ignore function online in 13 different formats but forget it works in real life as well.

I like to watch the local morning news ever day, mainly because the weather girl is smokin hot but other than that I try to avoid the main stream media.

There ya go. :)

Adding to this a wee bit, here. Woke having a Flogging Molly tune playing rather loudly in my skull, the tune is Another Bag O' Bricks. Kind of thankful it's not Dropkick Murphy's The Worker Man Song. Bah, both it seems are ear viruses. *chuckles* Y'all enjoy. :)

NO apology necessary at ALL, Morley! I think it is pretty awesome that we all, as friends here, can discuss such a typically volatile and divisive subject with great respect for each others views, and come out on the other side with a better understanding and knowledge of each other, and what has shaped our views and thoughts. VERY cool.

Well said. I rather enjoy being able to discuss, rather than argue about, different points of view, political, religious, or otherwise.

Yep it is strange but nice to be able to discuss things we have widely different viewpoints on without getting into a brawl.

I thinks it's because of a lot of us already "know" the people we are discussing it with and have made a decision somewhere along the way that we enjoy talking to them. It's much harder to get into an all out brawl in a discussion with someone who you have already made up your mind you like. Now getting into a verbal brawl with someone you don't know or have decided you don't care for is easier than tying your shoes. :)

Well, I think that is called being mature respectful adults who are capable of and desire learning and understanding. :) I agree that it's quite cool. Not sure such a diverse conversation could happen on the other forum.

Of course not, that is what led to my getting banned.
A hot topic it was called. I was just making comments on commercials and such and how they showed a degradation of the American society. Nothing racial, sexist, etc.

Here we can be adults not grade schoolers.

*chuckling* Oh poop.

We're in trouble now for sure. At times for me tying my shoes can be an insurmountable adversity. *big wide smirking grin* You do though offer a good point. I think here we've come to better know one another. Borrowing from Richard Bach a bit, you friends know you in a moment where strangers take years to even see you. Think many here understand the IS, is and it doesn't need us to defend it or not. On my part might not have a religion but can respect & appreciate spirituality.

heck I even envy the comfort some get from religion.
And a REAL Christian is a very fine person.
Just sad that they are the minority of christians.

Funny in the difference of moderation styles. Think it shows without a doubt the better quality of the forum here. There we faced being encouraged to be infantile and divided. Here we can be the adults we are and find unity. :)

I am not what you would call a religious person, even though I was raised in the church but when I got older I drifted away for many years(decades). During those times I found a lot of heartache and bad times usually by my own doing. It wasn't till recently I started to go back mainly because I wanted to comfort my parents who had seen me go down those dark paths so many years ago. And in the process I found something that comforted me, funny how that works. Now I go because I enjoy it but will never force it upon anyone. In fact I still have reservations about saying,"I will be praying for you" when I see a friend hurting really it's just my way of saying you will be in my thoughts and I hope things get better.

I am still struggling to this day with personal issues and going there gives me hope and that's all I need to keep going. That somewhere, somehow I will find what or who makes me happy. But at the end of the day I am also a scientific minded person who is constantly at odds with my religious beliefs but that just makes me certain if I can get along with myself I can do it with just about anyone. I don't need someone to believe what I do to get along with them I just need them to be kind to me and I will do the same in return and I am sure somewhere we will find a common ground to enjoy together.

One of a few reasons why I switched to a Presbyterian church. Besides not having a "figurehead" like the pope, and not having a lot of other Saint and Mary worship, and I LOVE that we have a slightly run down church more focused on spending on soup kitchens, disaster relief and things the Church SHOULD be spending the tithe money on, it is run by the MEMBERS.

The MEMBERS elect the board of elders that run the business end of it. The board of elders also hires the pastor. The pastor has no real say in the finances of the church. And once every quarter, every member of the church gets a full financial breakdown of what came in, and what went out, and where.

Once a year, there is an annual "fee" that we pay to the Presbytery of Detroit that oversees all of the S.E. Michigan Presbyterian churches. It is a whopping $26/person. They provide a lot of services to each church, serve as a "court" should the members ever feel that the elders are not serving the membership properly, and things like that. Very democratic.

Ooh, to my point, the Elders of our church are the LOVELIEST people. Because they are our friends, and it is a little town, we KNOW who is solid, who cares about the people, and who does great things in the community. It really is a fantastic little arrangement.

And one other thing, about going places like that -- for me, it's AA, since I don't really have a religion, per se -- there are a lot of folks there struggling a lot harder than I am, and when I go, as I did last Saturday night, and talk about the sorrow currently in my heart and the fact that I am NOT going to let it or anything else take my 24 yrs of sobriety from me, it gives THEM hope, that obstacles and hard times can be surmounted... without having to drink. Something that anyone struggling to stay sober really needs to know.

So, maybe I'll go tomorrow. Not tonight though, I really disliked them doing the Lord's prayer instead of the religion-generic Serenity Prayer.

This reminds me of something my father use to say. Anytime anyone told him they was a good christian, he would put his hand on his wallet to keep it from getting stolen. You hit it out of the park with this one Cromwell. A real Christian is a fine person, and there is not many of them out there. Oddly the only ones I know who even approach this from an organized position is the one religion many hate.

Doc, I would love to hear your opinion, probably colored heavily by your life experiences, of which you allude to. I have my own opinion, from people that my life experiences have brought me into contact with. It would probably come as a surprise, as to the members of which I'd least hesitate to loan $20 to. ;)

Oh, I only ask because mine would be considered "hated" as well.

No one has to tell you they are a good Christian if they really are. You will figure it out.
Perhaps they are trying to convince themselves?

I always look at people sideways if they start telling me how awesome they are at anything, just a personal rule. Humility goes a long way with me and I try to be that way as well.

The one Christian religion that I see is hated above all other christian religions is the Jehovah's Witness religion. I grew up with my mom being one but as a kid I knew only a few people actually in that faith and my sis and me was not allowed to go to church with her. They wasnt allowed at our house because my dad flat out told my mom if any ever came by he would sit in his boxers, drink beer and smoke cigs in front of them. My ole man was a real SOB :giggle:

I can tell you a couple things about them. If they are a real witness in good standing and asked me to borrow $1000, I would not hesitate to loan it to them because I know they are honor bound to do everything in their power to make sure I was paid back. I also know if they say anything, its true. They will not lie even if it is to save their own lives. I also know I cant be one. I live in sin so unless I change my ways I am not allowed to be one. I can attend any of the meeting but I can not actually be one unless I made some changes. They have some very high standards.

I actually was privileged to see something once that made me proud of my mom. Couple Mormon guys came up her driveway once when I was visiting her and they started talking with her. They told her this and that and was quoting versus, my mom was correcting them and quoting versus off the top of her head. They would be flying thru their bibles trying to find new argument to support their position and my mom would keep correcting them without ever opening a bible. Finally after around 30 minutes of this one of the young men asked my mom how she knew versus so well she didnt even have to open a bible and that is when she told them she was a Witness. Both them young guys told us they was not allowed to talk to witnesses because it was forbidden and they left (with their tails between their legs) and I laughed. But I always wondered why they was not allowed by the Mormon church to talk to them.

I can't speak for everyone, but my issue with them is that when they have come to my door, they won't take no for an answer. If I say I'm not interested in hearing what you have to say, that means turn around and leave, not keep talking. When someone is so pushy about their beliefs that I have to get downright rude to get them to leave MY property, I have a problem with 'em. When multiple people from that faith act that way, I tend to develop a problem with the whole denomination.

Any religion that forbids talking to those of another religion is screwed up.
imho of course :)
