Now now Andria, you would not want to upset our fledgling caste system would you?

the return of indentured servitude would be such a boost to our economy.

Some would argue that our insatiable quest to find a lower bidding country to source to is a pretty close model.

Good god, we're both in physical therapy and seeing specialists :giggle:

Can't wait till we get really old

How are your ailments btw? It's good that you seem to be taking it somewhat easy :)

Im taking it day by day. There are good ones and there are not so good ones. Hardest thing is coming to grips with knowing I might not ever be able to go back to work and what will I do then, but I try not to think too much about that yet.

This thread is starting to feel like a Trump rally

No it's not, or I wouldn't be here! In general I mostly support the republicans but Trump is a loose-cannon whack job, and that sort does NOT need to be the POTUS.

Was shocked today, 6 days to thaw a 22 lb turkey. Damn.... But at least they are selling turkeys again. I love a fresh baked turkey

We're mostly abstaining from any holiday merriment this year, for obvious reasons -- I'm very thankful my mom is no longer in pain, but I'm personally sad, so no thanksgiving for me, no turkey, none of that shit. Maybe a pumpkin pie with whipped cream. :D

My husband mentioned maybe grilling steaks as we did for the other holidays this year, and since summer seems determined to persist, we might do that.

Now that is surprising. The same schools that was here when I moved to Louisiana in the early 80's are the same schools kids are attending today, actually a few of them closed since then. Only new school; I know of is a real nice Baptist church school but since God is part of the studies, no federal dollars are allowed for it. Now if Allah was being taught they could rake in the federal funds.

GA has been doing a lot of consolidating with schools, which amounts to a whole new "bussing" program, tearing down old schools that are dangerous, consolidating inner-city students into newer safer schools, and thankfully getting rid of the shameful educators that were fiddling test scores to try and get mo money. But Gwinnett county (where I live) keeps building new schools, I guess people keep moving here; it's a huge and rather prosperous county, high taxes, good roads, and decent schools for the most part.

It pisses me off that the only time you can buy a turkey is during the holiday seasons. I love turkey all year and am going to get a small freezer that I can put 5 or 6 of the in while I can get them. With luck Friday I will be feasting on Turkey and maybe another one next week. I love them that much :D but I have no plans on celebrating Thanksgiving or even Christmas. Just not in the festive mood this year, plus its only me to worry about.

I agree about turkey, I love it! Do y'all not have Ingles supermarkets? That's where we always get our holiday turkey, and they generally have a small selection most of the time. We get our steaks there, too -- excellent meat dept!

Earlier it reminded me of when I was doing finish carpentry on the side. A buddy of mine started a comercial finish carpentry business and asked me to help him get going by being cheap labor. It was fun and I didnt mind plus before I knew it I was making more money working for him than I was working on helicopters. He taught me how to run trim, hang doors, install cabinets, all in professional settings like schools, churches, law offices, and even hospitals. One of the jobs I was on he sent me to run chair rail in a Baptist church that was also a school. This was back in the 90's and phase one of this baptist church was $5 million and I remember thinking damn these people are rich. When I showed up I had a helper with me and we started setting up and getting to work when the guy who was in charge of the whole job told me he wanted me running crown molding in these rooms, 12 inch crown molding and only thing I had was my 10 inch chop saw. Took a while to figure out WTF I was going to do and these rooms had walls with wierd angles like it would come out a 90 degree corner and then take a 22 degree turn. A real nightmare for running crown but I figured it out and knocked it out.

The thing is how elaborate this church/school was. It was mind boggling. If I remember right there was over 20 classrooms and each of them had base board, chair rail and crown molding in them and not the cheap stuff either, all this was high dollar.

Maybe some good news on the Bat Shit Crazyt SIL.
Finally got Social worker to come by and see her.
Conversation with social worker afterwards was interesting. Social worker thought my wife was exaggerating the situation when she first called them.
Social worker said she could not believe how bad she was. And the wife had understated things.
I guess we got used to standard crazy? I guess that happens after putting up with it for most of 19 years.

Short of it seems that in a couple of weeks or less the SIL will be in state custody for her own good. At least till court ordered medications and counseling work. Then she will be in govt housing somewhere, but not next to us.

"Gov't flunkies" never think that "normal people" have any idea what we're talking about. To them, we're all stupid and lazy. Which may be the finest case of psychological projection EVER.

Mornin' gang. Well, it's almost mornin'. :D And happy belated no-smoke-a-versary, Kodak. :) :bingo:

Now the rest of yas, GFYs merrily. I'll be finishing the room painting today; only thing left to paint after that are a few woodwork touchups and a small bookshelf.

Well, I think the room painting is done, barring any touch-ups that become apparent. I touched up the first corner I painted, today, but once the bed is back outta the way, I may need to touch up the 2nd corner too. Won't know about the 4th wall I just finished till this evening or tomorrow; it dries fast, but I like to make sure it's FULLY dry before deciding if it needs more paint. I haven't even touched the 2nd gallon, so even if I decide to give the whole room another coat, I could -- but that ain't very damn likely. :D I think the reason it used so little was that I insisted on buying a new roller with a very short nap, 1/4 inch, instead of the half-inch nap one we already had, which really glops the paint on. And I didn't go chintzy, i went over and over each stripe of wall I was on, till it was FULLY covered -- I don't paint like a professional, I paint like an artisan. :D

Afternoon fugee's.

Just curious, is it me, are my standards too high?

Cardiologist office been on me to go in and do a cholesterol study. Since last Thursday they called three times at home about the importance of getting this done so this morning I go in to have it done. They told me to just show up, no appointment and they will walk me right back and in a few minutes I could be about my business. I show up at 8:25 this morning and get told the girl doesnt come in until 8:30 but they will be right with me. By 8:55 I am about to leave when she calls my name.
No food or drink 8 hours prior to the test so drained the last beer around midnight and went to sleep. Woke up to no coffee or even a sip of water, waited until 8 and drove to their office. After multiple needle sticks they finally get blood from me but both girls comment on how thick my blood is and how slow it is, Im thinking to myself "well duh, nothing to drink for last 9 hours and your office had me on lasix water pills for last couple months, no wonder my blood is thick."
Then they try to hand me this little jar wanting a sample......are you shittin me?

I expect more from so called professionals. If your told to show up and you will be seen immediately, that doesnt mean a 30 minute wait. Know your patients. They are the ones who put me on water pills, and they should know anyone who has been on them for any length of time will not piss on command. Maybe my expectations are too high, I donno.

They're just like the rest of the world: 90% are total and complete MORONS; 5% are decently intelligent; 3% are above average, 1% are really bright, and the last 1% are approaching, around, or beyond genius.

And you're right, knowing your patients is key: even when I knew I was having a fasting blood test the next morning, I still had water after midnight, and when I got up, I had one cup of tea, but with one spoon of sugar instead of my customary 2 tsp -- because me without tea is not safe to drive, and I don't like tea without at least a little sugar -- and my blood pressure is so low, that without a little caffeine in the morning, plus the half dozen or so cigarettes I would have smoked, they wouldn't be able to get ANY blood AT ALL outta me. The blood test came out very well, even with a spoon of sugar in me, so I wasn't worried about it. And it was still very difficult to get the blood, even with a smidge of caffeine and the half dozen cigarettes -- the doctor has to do it, with a butterfly syringe, instead of one of those asinine monoject things that go right THRU my veins to the other side and leave a painful hematoma.

Thank you! I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of the completed room. I really like the color!

Even now, though we're a long way from done, I love how the light coming from that room is a rosy light, rather than that sickly green looking light. :) So much more pleasant!!!

And I was right; now that all the green is covered, that color doesn't seem intensely pink at all; it's a rosy tan sort of color. :)

Gotta touch up a few spots on the windows' woodwork, and on the door and doorfacing that got dinged when we moved in. Maybe this weekend, because my husband will need to sand those spots, so the new white gloss enamel will blend in.

Came to the conclusion years ago that few - if any - so-called medical professionals care about your time

They have no problem lying about timeframes. They are accustomed to dishonesty - they routinely call excruciating pain "slight discomfort" and most don't hesitate to try to baffle you with bullshit instead of being honest if they don't know what is wrong

I make sure to get to my regular checkups anywhere from 5 mins early to right on time. Sometimes I might have a short wait -- most of his patients are geriatric in the extreme, and they just don't move fast. :D But usually they're fairly prompt. It's fucking hospitals I can't stand -- the doctors almost always show up at least 2 hrs later than expected. :headbang:

Hell, I never have either. :giggle: But a wait of only 15-20 mins, at a doctor's office? I'LL FUCKING TAKE IT!!!! :giggle: 'Course then, after they weigh me and take my BP, I still have to wait in the consulting room for up to a half hour, for the doc who looks EXACTLY like riffraff from rocky horror (but his fringe around his bald pate is short) to deign to enter and actually talk to and examine me; I see him for my asthma, but due to my lack of insurance, he's my only doc, and he's an Internist, so he does the whole general-health-and-examination schtick; heart, lungs, eyes, ears, nose, and throat peering. He's a good doc though -- will NOT prescribe antibiotics until he has firm reason to believe there's a bacterial infection; does his own labwork and chest x-rays, and doesn't charge a fortune, AND bills me because of my lack of insurance. I dread that he might retire -- he's 64.

I had a 3pm appointment once with a surgeon and I had to drive an hour to get to his office so I showed up early, like 30 minutes early. Checked in at the receptionist window and waited, and waited and waited. Waited so long I actually dozed off for a while. Close to 5 pm was me and one other person in the waiting room when they called that other person and then asked me who I was waiting for. The reception area was for 5 doctors in the practice. I told them who I was there to see and they informed me he already went home. I blew a gasket one that one.

That is the same doctor I have a lawsuit against right now. He operated on me for a hernia. Recovery was suppose to of been 9 days in the hospital because it was a major hernia surgery but he sent me home after about 5 day. Thats when it was discovered he cut my intestines, missed it, I went septic and almost died.

I keep having fantasies about a lawsuit n the doc(s) that were taking care of my mom in the ICU. They were giving her propofol, to sedate her from fighting the respirator. Propofol lowers BP... and they were having a hard time keeping her BP up sufficiently to keep her organs viable, which is finally what killed her. That seems suspicious to me.

Sounds like an ethical and moral dilemma to me. Violent asphyxiation or sedation and heart failure. Both tragic, but if I had a preference... Not sure that is something that medical professionals SHOULD decide for themselves, and perhaps they are following some protocol. I dunno, but you probably deserve answers to your questions.

Well, the thing that caused her to "code" and require drastic intervention was that she stopped breathing. So they resuscitated her, got to the ICU, hooked up to every kind of med tech you can shake a stick at, including a respirator. So instead of dying because she stopped breathing -- essentially, she crashed, due to her extremely low BP -- she instead died by inches, over 3 days' time, due to her BP being so low and them being unable to raise it by any means or drugs so that her organs failed. I can't fathom what cruel mind thinks that is somehow preferable.

Oh my, I was only going by the first summary you wrote. Well, that seems horrible. It was only a possible scenario. I don't know all the particulars and hope they did all they can, or answer for it.

I don't really know if there are any answers. I know that patients on respirators have to be sedated, or they fight the respirator -- it's just instinct, and I saw what that fighting looks like, my dad was doing it a lot worse than my mom did, and he had lung cancer! But other than the lung cancer, he was very strong and healthy, whereas my mom was sick and weakened from years of improperly managed diabetes. So maybe there was nothing else they could do. If she had been at home, none of this would probably have happened -- without IMMEDIATE recourse to a respirator or even an ambu-bag, she would have died and been pronounced DOA, but I guess by it happening in a hospital, they think they're always supposed to go all-out to save someone... even if her living will specified no artificial lengthening of her life.

Not to sound as a know all, yet do know from experience/s and having to be knowledgeable regarding basic life support/service there is technically a seven minute window after breathing stops. Also know this from pneumonia killing me as an infant, I was pronounced legally dead my mom said. I did the reverse, quit breathing and died, returned and then went into convulsions from the 106 F fever.

That seven minutes or so roughly, and yes it's one of those oddball subjective things, is how long it takes for brain death to set in. So technically the hospital and its staff did indeed have legal obligation to do everything they could to save the patient. Yes, I understand the DNR and Living Wills. Hospitals do also, they also understand lawyers chasing them over technicalities and causing them liability costs.

I do not think they intended upon leaving her machined up had she continued living, legally due to the DNR they could not. Still they had to do everything they reasonably and legally could to get her living in stable condition. This is one of those very gray areas where man's law and God/Nature/Cosmic Law often collide and leave a lot of mangled emotions. What they seemed to have done is err upon abiding man's law the best they could. I'm not defending them nor representing them, only attempting to help make sense.

I am sorry. *hug*
