Hello, Jimi!

As food prices continue to climb, preserving your garden harvest and farmer’s market haul might be on your mind this season.

But what’s the best way to save and store all those veggies? And how much time and equipment is it going to take?

Too much of a good thing is a great problem to have... as long as you’re ready with a plan!

You have to take action fast or that precious harvest goes to waste. It would be so much better as pasta sauce later in the year.

That’s why we're inviting you to a masterclass with Stacey Murphy called 3 Strategies to Simplify Preserving and Storing the Harvest: Enjoy Fresh, Organic Vegetables & Herbs All Year Long.

--->>Click here to access the masterclass today!

You’ll discover how to think like a restaurant owner so that you can transform fresh food into a stocked kitchen without a lot of hard work.

This is not just about a bunch of canned tomatoes here. We’re talking ready-made meals with that summery burst of flavor and nutrition all year long.

In this masterclass, you’ll learn the strategy Stacey’s dad taught her that made her a "flavor ninja." You can transform basic garden ingredients into wildly delicious meals in minutes, too!

You’ll hear about Stacey’s complete Harvest into Meals preservation system including…
  • Garden fresh recipes
  • Meal planning
  • Food storage
  • Canning
  • Fermenting
  • Drying
  • Dehydrating
  • Pickling
  • And more!

When you have a preservation system, you can enjoy delicious, garden-fresh meals even when it’s cold outside.

Preserving the harvest means you don't have to say goodbye to your favorites simply because the seasons change!

And, it really can be simpler than you think...

--->>Click here to access the masterclass today!
So thankful that you’re making an investment in your health, your life and yourself.

Because health means everything,
P.S. When you attend the masterclass, you can also grab the Quick eGuide for Preserving the Harvest and it will help you discover which techniques are right for your lifestyle.

Header Fresh Food Lifestyle Monthly Health Series

Jimi, did you know that by simply changing the way you eat certain common foods you can dramatically increase their health benefits? It’s true!

If you change the way you eat leafy greens like kale, spinach, or arugula, you can unlock their true anti-inflammatory properties, making them one of the best foods for preventing or relieving an autoimmune condition.

Trouble is, most people don’t eat leafy greens this way (even though it requires no prep work or fancy utensils) so they miss out on the health benefits they deserve.

If you want to know this simple trick that makes leafy greens healthier, then you’ll want to jump to page 9 of Goodness Lover’s brand new special report, Top 20 Foods to Help Prevent and Reverse Autoimmune Disease, which you can download for free here:

>>> Top 20 Foods to Help Prevent and Reverse Autoimmune Disease
(eat these to reduce inflammation, relieve your symptoms, and regain control of your health)

And this secret about leafy greens is just one of the things revealed in this interesting special report.

You’ll also learn:

🍕 Boost immunity with a pizza topping? Yes! Research shows this tasty treat stops 85% of the sickness-causing pathogens it’s been tested on dead in their tracks.
🥦 When eating broccoli can make your autoimmune condition WORSE... And how to protect yourself.
🌿 The inexpensive herb that cools inflammation and can give you blessed relief from your symptoms. What it is, where to find it, and the easiest way to incorporate it into your diet.
🥑 How to pick an avocado -- and ripen one quickly
👏 And so much more!

If you want to be proactive and safeguard yourself against autoimmunity (which afflicts nearly 50 million Americans)...

And if you want to do that using foods you may already be growing in your garden…

Then you’re going to love this free special report.

Using the harvest
I can't have store bought catsup and had some maters sittin around that were ready to make something outta so I decided to make catsup
These are Amish Paste maters, sorta a roma mater only much larger and much much meatier, oh and they are much sweeter. I weighed a larger one 319 grams (between 11 and 12 ounces)
P1480691.JPG

Here's a look at them sliced, very meaty and very few seeds, this is just some of them I am usin 7 and a half pounds

P1480692.JPG

I ground them up put them in a pan added
organic date sugar,
organic allspice
organic onion powder
organic mustard seed
organic celery seed
Organic apple cider vinegar
Organic cinnamon
and Sea salt
and cooked them down
P1480694.JPG

into THIS

This tastes so good, FAR better than any store bought.

What goes into cultivating healthy, high-yield transplants that take off instead of struggling when transferred to the field?

Find out from Sam Tilton, the organizer of the annual Midwest Mechanical Weed Control Field Day. After earning his Master’s degree in Horticulture from Michigan State, Sam has worked many roles in vegetable farming from tool development to teaching on sustainable horticulture. Earlier in the year, he joined the Growing Farmers 2024 Vegetable Summit as one of our guest speakers on weed control.

Tune in to hear why Sam recommends transplants over direct seeding, and what methods he uses to ensure that transplants are healthy and strong before moving to the field.

In this episode, you’ll hear:

  • Why Transplants?: What are transplants and why would you want them over direct seeding?
  • Scheduling: What should a transplant schedule look like?
  • Seed Preservation: How are seeds handled in the process?
  • Germ Testing: Does Sam do any individual germ testing?
  • Seed Mix: What is Sam’s advice for seed starting mix?
  • Trays: What does Sam use to contain the seeds?
  • Germination: What is Sam’s approach to germination conditions?
  • Airflow: What is the importance of airflow and how can you optimize it?
  • Field Prep: What are Sam’s thoughts on field prep and transplanting techniques?

About the Guest:

Sam Oschwald Tilton helps farmers improve their weed management and works with technical support groups to give hands-on trainings and develop educational resources, through his business Glacial Drift Enterprises. Sam lives in Minneapolis and enjoys gardening with the neighborhood. If you want to talk to Sam about farm systems, please email him - [email protected].

So you have pests, but you don’t want to use pesticides. How the heck does one do that?!

This month, learn how to take care of the rascals without poisoning the food you eat. I promise it’s possible! The following articles can help:

By the way, incorporating animals in your yard can help bring more balance and mitigate some of the commons issues we experience as urban growers. Personally, I love watching my sweetie Heidi care for and love on our pet chickens.

Hens are often the first animal (other than typical pet species) that people keep in their yards, and for good reason...they provide fresh eggs, are easy to care for, and can even help build rich compost.

Once people experience how playful, productive, and profitable chickens are, a whole world of potential opens up and it's difficult to stop there. They might then venture into keeping other species of poultry, bees, goats, or sheep.

Whether or not you grow your own produce, and especially if you do, I'd suggest considering raising chickens. Let Urban Farm U open you up to the possibilities in our Signature Course, Urban Animals, with garden educator Kari Spencer!

Learn more about the course and raising urban animals here.

Enjoy, and happy growing.

Ever spent hours Googling whether to freeze, dehydrate, or can a certain veggie?

Some veggies can sit in your freezer for months. Others will lose crunch and flavor after freezing, but are fabulous when canned. And some of them are better off being dehydrated!

Overwhelmed by it all? 🤯

Step away from the rabbit hole and save yourself hours of searching with a FREE Vegetable Preservation Chart from our friends at Grow Your Own Vegetables!

This easy-to-follow chart is concise, printable, and perfect to hang on your fridge for quick reference any time you need it.

  • Save Money: Make the most of your produce and reduce waste.
  • Increase Variety: Enjoy a wider range of preserved vegetables throughout the year.
  • Stay Organized: Keep a handy reference chart on your fridge for quick and easy access.

One of my all time favorite things to study are victory gardens.
Regular people growing food, but not just growing 'some' food, growing upwards of 50% of vegetables in some situations.
On the Grow Food Not Grass summit I got to feature Rebecca who broke down the history and impact of victory gardens.
I just found out that I have even less time remaining than I thought to finish out the 'Rebel Gardens Legacy Tour' so be on the look out for a bunch more video's hitting your inbox over the next few days.
For now go learn all about Victory Gardens - https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
Keep grow'n,
Jason
PS - If learning about the history of victory gardens isn't your thing may I suggest another wonderful Grow Food Not Grass presentation all about growing herbs - https://www.youtube.com/watch?...

Cucumbers are coming in pretty good. I have two different kinds growing, Boston pickling and Marketmore as a slicer. I forgot to take pics of all that I have harvested, but here are some.

Here are a few that I've picked. The skinnier one is the Boston pickling.

Raw Cucumbers.jpg

These are some of the Marketmore that I sliced up and put into my dehydrator to make cucumber chips.

Sliced Dehydrator.jpg

Here they are finished drying. I used salt, pepper, Lawreys, and cayenne powder in various mixes.
