HIC's Mixes: DIY recipes store

Right here on VU. Ask away!!
I have bought these recipes
Banana tiramisu (I love banana and tiramisu so I expect to taste that)
Quick berry pink easy ( I loved unicorn milk)
Apple strudel tobacco (I like tobacco flavored with my morning coffee )
Hazelnut Caramel Coffee (I expect to taste coffee sweet for all day )
Did I choose right?
Is there any other good coffee like traditional greek (Turkish ) coffee?

I love Monsoon all by itself or with vanilla/creamy flavors. But it's hard to mix with! It always stands out distinctly, rather than blending in or complementing the rest of a recipe. You wouldn't believe how many failures I've had with this one. I haven't given up on finding flavors it'll cooperate with, but those probably won't be FA.
I look forward to seeing what you come up with. I have to agree that it is superb as a standalone. I even tried it in a series mech and it even tastes great warm. Who would have thought? Keep up the good work my friend.

I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested.

My image of Turkish coffee is a tiny cup of extra, extra, extra strong brew - with grounds at the bottom and stronger than espresso. Is that what you mean? If so, the closest you will come with FlavourArt is using Coffee Espresso as a single flavor. Try a little batch with, say, 2% Coffee Espresso to begin with, and be prepared to use more than that. If you *want* a bitter edge and minimal sweetness, using lower-quality nicotine and plenty of PG will give you some of that.

HIC I didn't found FA SOHO and I bought FA VIRGINIA instead for use in your APPLE STRUDEL TOBACCO. HOW MUCH SHOULD I USE OR I WILL DESTROY THE RECIPE. ?

No, I would NOT use FA Virginia in place of Soho. If you want to include Virginia, I'd use less than 1% (it's far far stronger than Soho). But the flavors are not similar. Can I help you find a vendor that ships to you and stocks Soho? You really do need it for that recipe to taste right; it's a main ingredient.

New today at HIC's Mixes : Pizzelle

p Pizzelle.jpg
"A classic Italian treat: delicate, buttery, lightly-sweet pizzelle wafers. This recipe balances the traditional pizzelle flavors of vanilla, anise and almond. Italian FlavourArt flavorings make a super vape flavor match for fresh pizzelle. I find it's an addictive, all-day vape. Only FlavourArt flavorings are required, and all flavorings used are diketone-free."

This is one of very few recipes I can happily vape all day long without the need to switch to something else. Really nice while sipping tea!

I don't have anise and I'm not a fan of it, any chance I could make this without it before I buy it?

Another traditional pizzelle flavor is lemon; you could use that in place of Anise (I'd use twice as much, though). To me, anise is really key to traditional pizzelle flavor. Do you like the real ones?

Got to get this recipe Hic. Just bought my eggs and anise today to make my annual Christmas Pizelles. Everyone loves them.

Just mixed this up and already I'm disappointed HIC. My anise might be 2 years old, and doesn't smell or taste like anise to me. (Have lots of food grade anise up in the kitchen and I love the smell.) I went ahead and made the recipe anyway, but I suspect it isn't going to be right. Maybe I'll run in to this issue with other flavors now too, since I started DIY almost 3 years ago and have not paid any attention to flavors reaching a shelf life. Any experience or thoughts would be appreciated?

My anise might be 2 years old, and doesn't smell or taste like anise to me.

It should smell and taste a lot like a bottle of anise extract. It's a flavoring that settles into layers very quickly, so be sure to shake it.

Funny you should mention age, though. I'm in the process of replacing a bunch of mine that are (long-ago) expired. Fruit flavors in general seem least stable to me. I've griped before that Tutti-Frutty tastes just horrible when it's old. I've had Orange fade, for sure. I don't think I've ever found a spice, cream, or tobacco flavor that changed over time - I have lots of very old bottles of those. I go through lots of FA Anise, so I doubt I ever had a bottle more than a year old.

Oh - I transfer citrus, mint, and spice type flavors to glass containers (after a sad experience once with wintergreen flavorings). All my flavorings stay in dark boxes, in a cool spot. I keep a few mints in the fridge & freezer, along with most "organic" and "natural" flavorings.

(p.s. - sad old FA Bread Crust, Perique, and other smelly flavorings are still banished to the garage; I don't know why I keep them!)

@Yooperdad since you mentioned having anise in the kitchen & I have some extract, I made a little batch of Pizzelle using McCormick "pure anise extract". I needed about twice as much as FA Anise to get the equivalent flavor, but this bottle of extract expires in a couple months. Ingredients list says: alcohol (67%), water, and oil of anise. I suspect FA uses PG instead of alcohol, but given the louche effect of both the extract & FA Anise, I'd say both use just oil of anise + flavorless stuff. Anyway, if you determine your FA Anise is just too old, this is an option you might try.

HIC, what you did here is a great example of why you are such a valuable and special resource to the DIY community. The extra effort certainly wasn't expected or anticipated, but greatly appreciated.

My Anise extract is from Durkee. It doesn't list the % of alcohol but does list the ingredients as alcohol, water, and anise oil, and is most likely the same as yours. I'll add 1% and check it out. There is no anise taste at all with my flavor I added today, but the taste is very pleasant none the less. I ordered some anise and a few others I needed today, so I'll have some fresh to try next week. Thanks again for the personal attention.

I almost missed the new recipe post  I didn't get an email like usual.
Yay new recipe!!!
Now off to see if I have all the flavorings

HI all! I posted an intro a few pages back, but got off on a tangent reading the FlavorArtClub thread, all 250 pages! Incredible intro to DIY. Would have been fun to participate, but the thread was winding down by the time I had my first vape. Both educational and entertaining! From vaping crab, everything ends with rum, the cookie monster, Pie! and Dark Vapure, it was a roller coaster ride! So many laughs,so many ideas, so many notes, and so much advice to/from everyone was just amazing.
Many of you are here now, so cheers! :vino:

HIC I did try my Durkee extract at 1% and it's great. Thanks. Anise ordered has not arrived yet but I'll make 120 ml when it gets here.

Yeah, the beginning of it all. There was mention of this thread, and I'm on Pg 20 so far. I will read it too, only 150 pgs. Cool. New document already started for notes. Believe it or not, after the FA Club thread, I'm pretty confident at mixing now, and it's been great! I've got about 60 flavors from FA and a half dozen from TFA/NF, and it covers 90% of everything that's appealed to me. Anise and Cardamom was a big surprise!

I play a game now... I get a new recipe from Gumroad, but before I look at it, I do a recipe based on the description. It's like the final exam. Ok Joe, show me what you learned. Sometimes I hit a home run, sometimes I strike out, but it's fun. Come to think of it, there's a few more on my wish list.

Anise and Cardamom?

Speaking of spices, I've found an alternative to TFA Holiday Spice: Capella Nutmeg Oil (I found here: https://wizardlabs.us/product&product_id=2225). More people have told me lately that Capella is available in their country but TFA is not. Weird, huh?
Nutmeg Oil physically mixes just fine - it contains nutmeg essential oil (isn't oil-based, so it vapes just fine) - and it tastes like pure, unadulterated nutmeg. Mmm-mm! In comparison, I taste a little (clove? I think) in Holiday Spice. Capella's seems even stronger than TFA Holiday Spice. I'll start listing Capella Nutmeg Oil as an alternative for TFA Holiday Spice once I nail down the relative strength. They're certainly interchangeable flavors. Personally, I give Capella's the edge in a taste comparison.

FYI. FA Anise arrived yesterday and I made a batch with the recommended 0.5% Anise. For me it's not enough. The Durkee at 1% is much better. I'll modify it to 1% today and try again.

Could be just me though. I more than triple the Anise in pizzelles I make for Christmas every year.

Pizzelles

Here's my recipe for the real thing if anyone is interested.

PIZZELLES
Christmas Recipe
12 eggs
2 cup butter
4 bottles anise (4 oz )
8 cups all purpose flour
6 teaspoons baking powder
4 cups sugar
1. Beat the eggs until smooth. Melt the butter in the microwave or in a small saucepan on low heat.
2. Allow the butter to cool briefly while you blend and mix the sugar and vanilla or anise extract into the eggs.
3. Add the melted butter into the mix, sift the flour and baking powder onto the mix and blend vigorously to ensure uniformity.

Total of 4 oz. of anise right? That's a lot lol! Then pour into the mold? Where do you buy the mold? Thanks for your recipe!

I'll look up a source for the pizzelle maker. I have an electric one that must be 40 years old. Somehow I assumed the task many years ago to be the "pizzelle maker" in the family. And yes, 4 oz sounds like a lot but it's the was we like them.

This one on Amazon looks a lot like mine. CucinaPro-Polished-Pizzelle-Maker

But mine is very old and non-stick stuff wasn't available back then.

(Tried posting the link but it won't show in my post ????)

I have done the hazelnut coffee. First the taste wasn't very strong. So I doubled all the persentages and I double the cream two because I like sweet coffee. Still I do not get all the flavors. Please HIC tell me what I should do to taste my sweet coffee vape for all day. !?

Using 2% FA Coffee Espresso in a recipe does not taste strong to you yet? Have you vaped that flavor in other recipes before? If not, I'd have you make a little batch with just Coffee Espresso to figure out what your "full strength" percentage is - 2%, 2.5%, 3%...more? I occasionally hear from people who enjoy that much, and as someone who drinks Turkish/Greek coffee, it won't surprise me if you do.

Are you using nicotine? If so, it's a good idea to try the smallest possible batch without it - just to make sure it's not messing up your flavors.

Came across this tutorial yesterday explaining one of the more overlooked aspects of Steam Engine. It's a great explanation of Heat Flux and Heat Capacity, and how it can be useful in designing coils that are efficient for your particular needs. The article has been approved for content and accuracy by the developer of SE, so I'm confident it's fact and not fiction. Very useful info... thought I'd pass it along for the builders out there.

A quick question for anyone who might know the answer...

I'm having big problems finding any of the Nature's Flavors range of concentrates in the UK. Do any of you guys and gals have any sources over this side of the pond?

I used to use Vaping underground a few years back for Hic's recipes (The Mrs's favourite is still strawberry frappachino ). Took some time off mixing these as I got hooked on capella custard...

Good to be back and look forward to trying some of these newer recipes out.

Good job Hic.

Hey, I remember you - good to see you again!

I've never heard of a source for NF outside the states. I know some people have gotten a small group together to split an order directly from them. That's the only way to make the high shipping charge somewhat reasonable. There's a business opportunity for someone who wants to sell their flavorings outside the US. A lot of the "organic" and "natural" vendor liquids here are made with NF.

The opportunity is certainly here, I can see that. It's odd that no one has taken the opportunity. It's a bit touch and go over here at the minute with incoming laws and legislations being invoked soon, maybe that's putting off new entrepreneurs from getting too deep in the vaping market.

Good thinking about getting multiple buyers, but for now looks like I will have to avoid any of your mixes that contain NF.

Just purchased the flavours for your Thai mango sticky rice. I'm going by your suggestion of using Papaya to, looking forward to trying it.

I'll be vaping on my Smok Tfv8 with dual twisted 26g Ss316l and v2 cotton bacon. I'll report back on findings from using this at high VG and 100+ watts.
