Since I never use the Kanthal mode I can't answer that for you, I just know the FSK % is available to adjust on Kanthal, Nichrome, Tungsten and of coarse XXX but is not there with the known TC metals of SS, Ti and Ni. There is a youtube video the guy from Hohm Tech does using the kanthal setting and in that video he adjust FSK, that is the way it works for the non conventional TC metals.
Ah gotcha

After toying with the idea forever I finally got one, and I think I'm in love. This thing is solid as a rock. Like a lot of other people I'm not crazy about the symbols or the menu names, but the overall quality makes it easy to see past the few cons. The only issue I've had so far is trying to update the firmware. Even with the update port activated the update software isn't detecting the device. I was doing this on an old-as-dirt laptop though, so the computer itself may have been the issue. I haven't had any trouble running escribe on it though. Has anyone else had this problem?

That had crossed my mind, but I'm using the one that came with my efusion duo so I assume it should be ok. I'll try some other ones when I get home and see what happens.

If your like me you run your windows pc in user mode, not administrator mode. You have to run in administrator mode though to do the update. There is also USB drivers in the update program, 1 of those work, not sure which one but I think there is 3.

Did you watch the video they have on the Hohm tech site on how to do the upgrade? You have to put the mod into some kind of upgrade mode for it to work.

Yes, I activated the update port. I wasn't aware that the drivers had anything to do with the mod though, I thought they were for the update program. How does that work? There's a lot going on in the drivers folder, I have no idea what to do.

There are USB drivers for different windows versions, not really a limitation of the Hohm tech program but a limitation of windows. I believe there is a read me on what to use but it has been awhile since I have looked at it, I am on my tablet right now so can't see the windows files.

Ok so using temp mode with ss this morning. When in that mode the wattage is what you set for preheating the coil?

Wattage controls ramp up time of the coil. Temp controls how cool or hot you like your vape.

preheat on the G2 is non adjustable. it preheats at 171 watts but nobody knows for how long. hohmtech just said a "split second" so my guess is about half a second or so.

As @Deucesjack said, the higher the wattage, the quicker it gets to your temp cut off. Also you could just run it in auto mode and not worry about the wattage, I just started trying it yesterday and it works great

No way because on button press in tc mode it takes 2-3 seconds before I get sizzle both devices have that delay. Not sure if that's because I subohm but fire is Def not immediately. So my technique is to empty my lung into atomizer while still holding fire then huge inhale ....I wish the fire was instant. This is why I use wattage on the hohm mods because it's almost instant

Your settings are off somewhere, your one of the first I have seen say that it takes 2-3 seconds to light up your coils, it is nearly instant for the rest of us.

this^ people say it's one of the "hardest" hitting devices, most likely because the preheat. Also the hohmslice preheats at 101 nor whatever the max is, not 171 like the G2. I'm vaping right now at .21ohm on a tsunami 24, dual twisted coils SS430/Kenthal 9 wraps 3mm ID. Using XXX mode FSK at 17% and auto for 51% insanity and it still heats up instantly.

just stuck some ss 0.09ohm parallel coils NOT TWISTED on my tsunami. Cold start on the slice it takes about 1.5 seconds to get them to kick start to glowing. That's I watt only mode.
Xxx mode is almost instant glowing. So it looks like Xxx is where I need to be

what watts are you hitting them at in watt mode?
I still don't understand why you are building so low though.

It wasn't on purpose ran out of wire while wrapping so figured 7 would work but ended up being super low. I was shooting for 0.20.

could have just used 2 coils instead and got .18 and had another set up dual coils left over.

2 coils as in 2 regular coils, didn't need to build them parallel. plus they already look burnt. might want to clean them off before you use them

Dry fire that's why they look like that . freshly built but the wire quickly turns blue dark blue after several tests to make sure coils glow properly.

Reason for parallel was to completely cover the stove pipes.

blue is ok for SS, but that looked black to me. maybe it's just the lighting.

Xxx at 14.5% 245 Celsius with dual kanthal Claptons 0.17ohms kick ass. I just tried to use Kanthal mode and it still just bottoms out showing zero on the voltage meter. Maybe my Claptons are a mix of kanthal and something else.... See this is why you don't buy unknown random shit off eBay even if it is a legit US seller.

Later I am going to roll my own 26g kanthal coil and see if either device will TC in kanthal mode. If not then my stuff is broken. :/
Would be nice to use kanthal mode as it was intended for its purpose of TCing kanthal wire, tho xxx works there too.

I'm using it in kenthal mode and adjusting the fsk for kenthal now that someone told me it existed lol with pre-built tfv8 coils. Xxx mode works fine for my multi metal twisted wires so it should temp control no matter what. Also yes don't buy off eBay usually. Although I did get some wire myself off eBay but got lucky with no issues. Next time I'll probably order from advanced vape supply

I'm going to see if I can get help over from hohm tech. Something isn't right that both devices are showing little to no voltage when switching to K TC mode. I recall it working a while back but I switched to SS wire now back to kanthal lol

Kanthal mode works for me on the Tsunami with the fused Claptons. (100W/500F/50%)
WOAlUwdl.jpg

You really need to check and see that the G2 has the correct resistance for the coil. I have found that taking the atty off and hitting the fire button for the Check Atomizer screen will not always clear the previous resistance. If someone has any input to Hohm Tech, a reset resistance function would be a good addition. Since Mode and - will lock the resistance maybe they can program Mode and + to reset the resistance.

Well I got my Wrecker to update. Here's an explanation in case anyone else has the same problem.

I did it exactly as it's done in the video. The problem was that the video showed the mod's update port being turned on, THEN it was plugged in. When I did that the update software didn't detect the mod. Well apparently after a(fairly short) period of time being inactive with the update port turned on, the mod will automatically power off. When it did this it disconnected and reconnected to the PC, and the PC failed to install the drivers. So, I went into "devices and printers," found the port with the "unknown device" connected, and tried to get it to install the drivers. According to Windows the device didn't need any. Tried the update software again for the hell of it, still nothing. Tried different USB cables, nothing. Well, when I was trying to install the drivers after the initial attempt I didn't turn on the update port because I didn't want it to shut down halfway through again. The PC was still detecting a device, albeit an unknown device, so I didn't think that was a problem. Well it was. What ended up working was I turned on the update port and quickly went in and manually selected the drivers folder within the Hohmtech folder from the update software download, rather than letting Windows search for the correct drivers. That way it was installed before the mod shut itself down. Problem solved.

If anyone thinks they're having the same issue, PM me and I'll go into more detail.

I'll try resetting it a few times.
I made a video of the slice which is doing the exact same thing as the g2 with kanthal but not sure how to remove the audio from the video.

After removing and resetting the ohms like 12 times it works now in kanthal mode. Both are working. I guess pressing fire once does not always work. In this case took 10 times on the slice and 2 on the g2.

Hmm. That doesn't make sense, I don't see what harm could be done by knowing how much current a device can put out. I'm surprised that no one has tested it as long as it's been out.

I tried that as well and it will sometimes still keep the old resistance. A reset resistance function should be incorporated in the firmware.

So I got my red silver one back yesterday, they replaced the 510 and the FSK board and updates to the latest firmware. everything seems good so far. The one thing I noticed is that the cut into the batty pin hole on one side. not sure why, doesn't bother me though and it's working great so I'm happy
