I just had to post this again

Hi Jimi,

What I am about to tell you is so unreal, so unbelievable, and we say “this could never happen here“. But it is happening and it’s extremely dangerous to all of us.

My good friend, Jeffrey Smith (one of the world renowned leaders on the dangers of GMOs) has presented his information on GMOs at numerous medical conferences, and before any legislative bodies, and, at my last count in 57 different countries! In response, health practitioners have seen the protective and healing benefits to prescribing non-GMO organic diets to their patients (and seeing dramatic results!). Jeffrey has shifted the awareness of millions of people on this suppressed topic. I’m not embarrassed to say he’s one of my heroes.

Here are some of the details you might want to know on this issue:

In spite of strong opposition from local residents and experts, the EPA approved Oxitec’s controversial genetically engineered mosquitoes in the Florida Keys in May.

Now Oxitec proposes to extend the Florida experiment and start releases in California as part of their nationwide rollout.

Genetically engineered mosquitoes carry unprecedented dangers for the health of our country and our environment.

This is unbelievable. It would be hard to make this up. Something out of a disaster movie. So please, take the time to do something. Give 10 - 15 minutes to do your small part. I promise it will make a difference.

Previous trials in Brazil, Cayman Islands, Panama, and Malaysia failed to reduce any of the diseases that can be transmitted by the targeted mosquito, and results proved the safety assurances by Oxitec and EPA were false.

  • Oxitec guaranteed that biting female mosquitoes would not be released, but their technology failed and residents in four nations were exposed to millions of these genetically engineered disease carriers.
  • Oxitec promised that the mosquitoes would die off once the releases were terminated. Independent tests confirm they permanently changed the gene pool, creating never-before-seen genetic hybrids with unknown characteristics.
One would think that such a dangerous technology with potentially irreversible impacts would face the most rigorous scrutiny, right? The EPA conducted a shoddy, non-transparent assessment that relied almost exclusively on data submitted by Oxitec.

This is both a national and global issue.

My antibody test came back negative so I have not had the rona even with all my travels. I'm not ready to retire so my only choice is to get tested every week if and/or when my company implements Biden's jab mandate. :(

What other people think about you is none of your business!

Yup, it’s their business, not yours. The thing that matters most is what YOU think about you. What you think about your dreams, about who you love, how you live, how you contribute to the world and so on. That’s what matters — your opinion of you.

We’ve all experienced the fear of putting ourselves out there.

That naggy inner voice that makes us feel insecure about standing out or doing things differently? Well, sometimes we can trace that voice back to mean shit other folks have said to us (or about us). Other times we’re telling negative stories about ourselves that feel so damn real that we don’t know the difference.

Real talk: if you let fear of judgement hold you back, you’re robbing yourself and others.

The more you rely on outside permission and validation, the less likely you’ll be to go your own way, share your unique gifts, or even rise up to challenge injustice.

Sure, feedback can be useful. I’m grateful for the times my best friend (and even my mother) have encouraged me to take a step back and look at things differently. But not everyone has our best interests in mind — even when they think they do.

That’s why discernment is so important. We’ve gotta sift through the feedback and decide what’s valuable and what’s the other person’s baggage.

Folks who like to flex their nasty are often acting out from their own wounds. Have compassion for them, but don’t let their drama dull your sparkle, my friend.

Remember, their feelings aren’t your facts. Keep doing your best and making your magic.

SEASONS​

I’m sitting outside while I write this, the first feelings of fall starting to emerge within me. There is an outdoor craft show setting up across from me in a parking lot, there is a cosy bowl of chili in front of me, and there is a crispness to the air that wasn’t there last week. It’s just that feeling, you know?

Autumn is a wholly nostalgic time for me. Growing up, we did a lot of things outdoors in the fall. We went apple picking, to the pumpkin patch and corn maze, and on hikes to see the stunning colours blazing to life. Looming large in my memory are trips to the McMichael Art Gallery (a beautiful collection of Canadian art with hiking trails surrounding the gallery) and many an outing to Crawford Lake (a conversation area and model First Nations village with educational programming). I remember a lot of fun and a lot of love and a lot of possibility.

Though the feelings are wonderfully familiar, they always seem to sneak up on me. At this time of year in Ontario, it often feels like it’s summer one day and then autumn arrives overnight. It can take a couple of days to start noticing the transformation taking place around me.

It reminds me of the transformations and changes I continue to notice in myself after cancer. One day, I was a normal young woman, and then overnight I became something else entirely. But just like the unwelcome chill in the air contrasted with the much-beloved colours of fall, not all of the changes have been negative.

It is certainly easier to focus on the chaotic fragments of the life we once knew, because there is still familiarity there and there is of course great comfort in the familiar. But just like autumn, there is so much beauty to be found if we can muster the courage to look forward instead of back. Sure, there are days of warmth and sunshine and smiles behind us, but there is bounty and rebirth and definitely more smiles ahead.

We can absolutely mourn the end of one season and all that it gave us, but don’t let that sadness take over completely and prevent you from exploring the possibilities of this new one.

Mental Health Monday​

MHM is back this week with part two of My “Dealing with Anxiety” Process. If you’ll remember, in part one, I discussed the five steps I often go through to tackle my anxiety, whether cancer-related or general. The final step in that process, consciously stopping those thoughts and choosing new ones, is sometimes easier and a lot of times harder. In part two, I’m breaking down that step further for the days it’s easier and the days it’s not. If you’re dealing with anxieties of your own, I hope that any or all of this process helps you to lessen them and live life with more ease and peace. Happy Fall Y'all! 🍂🍁🌾 I am a self proclaimed soupie groupie (my sister even made me a t-shirt to prove it 😜), and this is the time of year where I start cracking out the stock again and making all manner of soups and goops. Chili may not be exactly a soup, but it's definitely in the same family and it's definitely delicious! This is our favourite recipe below, and it makes a big batch so there are leftovers for lunch. We always pair it with this paleo "cornbread", which is a little bit sweet, crunchy on the outside, soft and warm on the inside, and absolutely corn free. Plus, the whole meal is gluten and dairy free, and it can easily be made vegan. Making this in a pressure cooker will destroy the lectins (inflammatory proteins) in the tomatoes and beans, but it isn't necessary to do this in a pressure cooker if you don't have one. I hope you love it and find it as comforting as we do!

One of the most frustrating things about cancer is that there is just SO MUCH conflicting information out there, and it can be very stressful and confusing trying to determine what the best decisions are for us. Someone whose work helped to clarify some areas of breast health for me was Dr. Kristi Funk, MD and author of the national bestseller, Breasts: The Owner’s Manual – Every Woman’s Guide to Reducing Cancer Risk, Making Treatment Choices, and Optimizing Outcomes. Kristi has helped thousands of women through breast cancer treatment, including well-known celebrities like Sheryl Crow and Angelina Jolie, and today I’m sharing an interview that she did with Chris Wark of Chris Beat Cancer. Among many things, they discuss:
  • That most breast cancer is not caused by bad luck or genetics

Chances are this is not your first health and wellness rodeo.

If you’re reading this, you likely care a lot about what foods and supplements go into your body.

But how much attention do you pay to what goes on your body or on your hair?

The fact is, your personal care products, from makeup to hand soap to toothpaste, aren’t very well regulated by the FDA.

In fact, the FDA does not require safety testing of personal care products, and many safety laws surrounding your everyday care products have not changed since 1938. This makes it almost impossible for the FDA to stop toxic ingredients from going to market.

And as you probably know, what goes on your skin and hair will make its way into your body.

The reality is that the majority of products on the market contain chemicals that are destructive to your hair, as well as your overall health. Hair loss, skin allergies, and even breast cancer are among the many concerns linked to unnatural formulas.

When it comes to hair care here are the top toxic ingredients you should be looking for:

  • Sulfates – You know that squeaky clean feeling you get after rinsing off a lathery mane? That's due to sulfates, as their role is to remove dirt and oil. While we're conditioned to believe that the more suds the better, the reality is that sulfates also strip the scalp of the vital moisture that contributes to healthy hair. On a deeper level, many sulfates contain hints of a carcinogen called dioxane, which has been linked to kidney issues and cancer.
  • Polyethylene Glycol – Most commonly listed as PEG, this chemical was deemed by the state of California as a "development toxicant," which means it disrupts development and/or behavior.

  • Parabens – Parabens are one of the most hated and most common toxic ingredients in the beauty industry because their role is to prevent harmful bacteria and mold growth.
