The other day, I was out to dinner with one of my kiddos, and after we ordered, a bunch of NMF (Not My Food) was brought to the table while we waited for our meals. I decided to have a small taste of the parmesan cheese sitting in front of me, and the experience that followed is probably one you can relate to. Watch this week's Vlog to hear all about it.

Butyrate: Silver Bullet or Another Fad?

That's what I asked Steve Wright when I interviewed him this week. Steve had the worst gut problems of anyone I know and when he tells me something is helping him, I'm listening.

Butyrate is a well know short chain fatty acid that we know comes from good bacteria in our guts but can we isolate it and use it as a supplement? Until recently- that answer was no.

Sure, you could buy it but it was a waste of money.

Apparently, there's a new way to deliver it which gets to the intended result.

What result?

Lowering inflammation in the gut and bringing the tight junctions back- essentially reversing leaky gut.

Anything to help get inflammation down is interesting to me. The fact that we're identifying how to help the "soil" of the gut is a nice step forward in our battle against monocrops and antibiotics.

Processed Meats Linked to Breast Cancer

Americans spend at least $3.35 billion annually on luncheon/processed meats, including hot dogs, ham, sausages, corned beef, jerky, and meat-based sauces transformed through salting, curing, fermentation, smoking or other processes to preserve or enhance flavor.

Manufacturers are really bringing home the bacon, and at your expense.

Special: The Death of Black Coffee

The latest research confirms the dangers of processed meats. The International Journal of Cancer published an analysis of 15 studies and found that women eating processed meat increase their risk of breast cancer by 9 percent.

That's on top of a study in the European Journal of Cancer that found that eating 9 grams (around 3 ounces) or more a day of processed meats, or the equivalent of about two sausages a week, boosts your risk of breast cancer significantly.

In fact, it was found to also increase the risk 9 percent for those who consumed the most processed meats compared with those eating the least.

Ditch processed meats and go for lean proteins, like fish and skinless poultry.

Hi Jim,
When you buy an apple, you can choose to buy one grown in Montana or Mexico based on the mandatory country-of-origin labels (M-COOL) that the law requires the fruit’s producer to apply to the apple before it can be sold. Shouldn’t we have the same labeling rules in place if you buy meat?
We at Center for Food Safety (CFS) certainly think so. But currently the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) allows beef that’s been produced in other countries to be labeled as a “Product of the USA” as long as the foreign-grown beef is unwrapped and rewrapped on U.S. soil!
That’s why this week we’ve teamed up with like-minded groups to push Congress to require country-of-origin labeling through the American Beef Labeling Act (S2716)! This essential legislation needs more co-sponsors in the Senate in order to pass.
Tell your senators to co-sponsor the American Beef Labeling Act!
We can’t keep our food safe if we don’t require country-of-origin labeling. If a mad cow disease outbreak starts in another country — as it did recently in Brazil — country-of-origin labeling allows you to avoid meat products from that country until the outbreak subsides. If we don’t require meat companies to label where their products are produced, we can’t control foodborne illness outbreaks as effectively.
The loophole these meat companies are using to inaccurately label foreign-produced meat as a “Product of the USA” interferes with your right to know where your food comes from. Closing these loopholes allows you to support American-owned meat companies or ranchers as a show of patriotism and to bolster our own economy.
Or, if you want to eat green by cutting down on the distance your meat had to travel to reach your plate, M-COOL can help you make sure you’re only buying meat that was produced in the United States with a lower carbon footprint.
You have the right to know where all your food comes from. Tell your senators to co-sponsor the American Beef Labeling Act!
After the original legislation to require mandatory country-of-origin labeling on all foods was passed in 2002, transnational special interest groups like the American Meat Institute sued, arguing that the required labels violated their First Amendment commercial speech rights. CFS co-authored a brief with the Animal Legal Defense Fund defending this critical legislation in that case, which the Court of Appeals agreed with.
But since that lawsuit, meat companies found a loophole by shipping foreign meat into the United States, rewrapping it, and trying to pass off the foreign meat as a “Product of the USA” because it was wrapped in the US. Two of these companies (Smithfield and JBS) are owned by China and Brazil. These large meat companies misrepresenting their products put the smaller ranchers raising livestock sustainably at a disadvantage in the open market.
This week of action is our best chance to make the beef industry more transparent. We need to hold those large meat companies accountable and demand truth in labeling.
Tell your senators: Meat companies shouldn’t get a chance to pass off foreign meat as a “Product of the USA”!

My general strategy when it comes to vitamins and minerals Jim, is to have a few different “multi” type products on hand…

and then also periodically “boost” the KEY ones.

Those that come up over and over again in my research, whether it’s the immune system in general, cancer, skin conditions, or “the scary germ.”

And this is of course outside of making sure we’re eating a wide variety of foods that contain the important vitamins and minerals in the first place…

but on the minerals especially, even organic food you get at the grocery store still isn’t being grown in soil full of minerals for the plants to absorb.

It’s still mass produced, and they’re not making sure the soil is replete with nutrients like I’m learning is so important the more I dive into growing our own food.

And speaking of deficiency, odds are you’re deficient in the THE most important mineral for:

  • Immune system
  • Deep sleep
  • Fat metabolism
  • Teeth & gums
  • And more
Yes… as the title of the email implies… zinc :)

I talked about the food deficiency problem, but the other thing is, with zinc supplements, they only contain one or two forms

whereas there are SEVEN total forms zinc can come in, each with its own benefits.

This has always bugged me when trying to compare different zinc products.

I drove myself insane a while back trying to research what the “best” form is

and settled on trying to make sure I’m rotating through them, which is also a huge pain and still not the optimal way to do it.

PS… Had my check in with Dr. Chandler following up on my cavitation surgery yesterday.

It will be another few months until we do another cone beam to make sure all the bone is growing back the way it should…

but he muscle tested to be sure that the surgery hadn’t blocked any energetic meridians, and that the “power is still on” at those locations as he put it.

I was at either 100 or 99 in all four locations (which is a good thing). :)
