Mental and Emotional Healing Resources: Courses​

Many of you are probably familiar with Deepak Chopra, at least in a passing, "I've heard his name" kind of way. Many will also be familiar with Hay House, the publishing house founded by the legendary Louise Hay and home to authors like Gabby Bernstein and Chris Wark. Every couple of years (before the pandemic), Hay House’s Australia office would invite the world-renowned teacher and scientist Deepak Chopra, M.D., to Australia to talk about his latest work and our understanding of the intersection between the mind, body, and spirit.

Deepak’s most recent presentation was called Radical Well-Being, and over the course of two days, Deepak spoke about how everything from sleep to meditation to nutrition to spirituality affects you on a genetic level. And then he explained how to use these connections to enhance your health in such a clear way that even non-scientists could understand it.

This presentation brought together the keys to health that Deepak has learned from his extensive research and study over the past 50 years. Hay House recorded it and turned it into an online course, and for the last 5 days, they have been airing it for free so that their audience could learn how to regulate gene expression for optimum health, well-being, and longevity.

They have been discussing:
  • how to heal yourself at a genetic level by enhancing your mind, body, and spirit
  • how certain actions affect your healing power
  • simple healing practices you can use to calm your nervous system and decrease inflammation (the true root cause of so many common diseases and ailments)
  • and lots more!

Resources: Exercise​

If you have been here for a while, you have probably seen me share videos from Adriene Mishler of Yoga With Adriene. Among many free resources that she offers, every January she releases a free 30-day yoga journey, and it's almost time for another one! It starts on January 1st. The videos are released daily on her YouTube channel and all centre around one theme (this year, it's "Move"). It also includes a lovely daily email from Adriene with encouragement and explanation of how the day's practice connects with the journey's theme.

No experience is necessary, and one of the things I really appreciate about Adriene's videos is that she offers a lot of modifications for the various experience levels and plenty of explanation for those new to yoga. From Adriene:

"Together we will go on a 30 day journey to transform and embody the best version of ourselves mentally, physically, and emotionally. Designed for all levels, this program tells a story and creates opportunities for experiencing and understanding what true health really means through the lens of yoga, movement, neuroscience, and mindfulness. The hardest part is showing up. Nervous? You are not alone! I’ll offer many ways for you to modify or make this practice your own. Learning new movement is SO good for the brain. Just get to the mat, and together we will find the rest. I got your back."

There are a few goodies as well, including a free downloadable calendar with practice times so you can schedule accordingly; the videos are all 30 minutes or less. They also remain up on her YouTube channel all year, so if you fall behind or want to come back and do it all over again, you can access them any time throughout the year.

Some people swear by the benefits of fasting on a regular basis. But what is it about this controversial practice that is so appealing to the masses? Is it really as beneficial as people claim? If you’ve considered fasting for health, weight loss or spirituality, here are some of the pros and cons you should know about the trending practice.

Understanding Fasting

Fasting is the process of abstaining from all food or certain food categories for a period of time. Some types of fasting also involve abstaining from liquids. It’s important to distinguish that there is a difference between fasting and starving. Fasting is the act of deliberately not eating any food, while starving is not done by choice (except in the case of serious eating disorders).

Many health and medical professionals claim that fasting is beneficial to human health, while others claim it is not. To form your own conclusion, it’s important to look at the existing evidence regarding fasting. Once you have sufficient information about the benefits and drawbacks of the popular practice, you can make an informed decision about whether or not it’s right for you.

Benefits of Fasting

There are many potential benefits to fasting, and some of them are backed by science. Here are a few of the reasons why people choose to fast.

May help control glucose levels​

Unrestricted dietary choices during eating windows​

There is also some evidence that fasting may boost longevity and provide other health benefits. Of course, in order to experience the full benefits of fasting, it’s important to stick to a healthy diet. It’s also important to pay attention to how your body feels when fasting and make sure you don’t go without food for too long.

Drawbacks of Fasting

While some people respond quite well to fasting, others do not. This suggests that the practice may not be appropriate for everyone. Here are a few of the drawbacks associated with intentionally going without food for periods of time.

May cause severe hunger and lead to overeating​

May reduce physical activity​

For people with certain health conditions or who are taking medications, fasting may be dangerous. Some medications specifically state that they should be taken with food to alleviate side effects.

In addition to these challenges, it’s easy for people who fast regularly to suffer from nutrient deficiencies. This is because on the days they do eat, they still eat too little nutrient rich food for their daily nutritional needs. Some people also use fasting as a method to allow them to eat unhealthy food when they return to eating in an effort to balance out calories. If you want to try fasting, make sure that you're getting lots of healthy, nutrient rich foods on the days that you are eating to avoid these common problems.

Different Types of Fasts

There are many different types of fasts, including extended fasts that last multiple days, and short fasts that last longer than one full day. Here are some of the different types of fasts people engage in.

Intermittent fasting: This type of fast involves abstaining from food for at least 12 hours every day. It’s arguably the most popular type of fasting right now, and purports to help the body turn on its fat-burning mechanisms.​

Religious fasting: Many people fast for religious or spiritual purposes. Usually, this type of fasting involves abstaining from both food and water for a short period of time (between six and 24 hours in most case).​

Long-Term fasting: Also known as extended fasting, long-term fasts are more controversial than most. They involve abstaining from all foods or certain foods for more than 24 hours.​

Intermittent fasting is usually the best choice for beginners because it is easier to stick with. It’s also safer than extended fasting. If you want to experience some of the benefits of fasting for yourself, check with your doctor and give intermittent fasting a try.

Diet, Blood Sugar, & Your Adrenals​


Hi Jimi-

Changes in blood sugar levels may be a sign and symptom of adrenal fatigue. In the early phase of adrenal fatigue, you typically see hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) and, in an advanced phase of adrenal fatigue, hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).

The thing is, you may not notice a problem with your blood sugar levels, but that doesn’t necessarily mean all is well. It is essential to monitor and know the symptoms of having a diet that send your blood glucose on a roller coaster ride of high and low levels. Glucose level swings can result in damage to your blood vessels, raising your cholesterol, and put you at risk for heart disease.

Dr. Russell Blaylock, M.D., writes:

Cancer cells have abnormal metabolism. Mainly, this is because they use a process called aerobic glycolysis for energy. (Normal cells use a different process called the electron transport system.)

Glucose is the main fuel for cancers, and therefore all carbohydrates feed cancers. But cancer cells have other fuels. It turns out that they can use the amino acid glutamine just as efficiently as they use glucose.

Special: New Aging Research Reveals Key to Long, Healthy Life

In fact, some tumors are voracious glutamine consumers. Within cancer cells, glutamine is converted into another amino acid called glutamate, which is used for energy production and to stimulate receptors on the cancer cell membrane, triggering increased proliferation of cancer cells and invasion into surrounding tissues.

The list of cancers that have been shown to have glutamate receptors include:

• Colon cancer

• Breast cancer

• Prostate cancer

• Thyroid cancer

• Lymphoma

• Leukemia

• Lung cancer

• Bone cancers

• Pancreatic cancer

• Nasopharyngeal cancer

• Brain cancer

Some cancers, such as melanomas and medulloblastomas, have very high numbers of glutamate receptors. Blocking glutamate receptors has been shown to inhibit the growth and invasion of these tumors and greatly enhance the effectiveness of conventional treatments.

Most diets, even those advocated by cancer center dietitians, contain high levels of glutamate, glutamine, and sugar. Unfortunately, cancer patients are rarely told that they should avoid foods naturally high in glutamate and glutamine, and processed foods containing powerful glutamate additives, such as MSG, whey protein, hydrolyzed protein, soy protein, caseinate, natural flavors, carrageenan, and autolyzed yeast.

Foods naturally high in glutamate include all meats, fish, many cheeses, green peas, all soy products, beans, tomatoes (especially pureed or as a sauce), and many salad dressings, as well as milk and milk products.

While a ketogenic diet has powerful anticancer effects, high glutamate foods should be excluded from that diet.

Inside cells, glutamine is converted into glutamate by the enzyme glutaminase. Research has shown that inhibiting this enzyme slows cancer growth.

The highest concentration of glutamine in the body is found in muscles. Terminal cancer patients lose a great deal of muscle and become emaciated (cancer cachexia) because the tumors steal the glutamine from their muscles in massive amounts.

The answer to this problem seems to be blocking the glutaminase enzyme, as that prevents the cells from manufacturing glutamate. But you also have to eliminate glutamate from the diet.

And wide-spread, systemic corruption of our institutions of public health, governments, media, and of science itself by the financial agendas of trillion-dollar for-profit corporations threatens our future.

In the words of the brilliant Stanford epidemiologist Dr. John Ioannidis:

"I think that medicine and the medicalization of society is becoming a major threat to humanity. We need to choose. Are we with medicine or are we with health? Are we with drugs, interventions and now these public health measures? Or are we with HUMANS -- with human lives and quality of lives?”

Some people are reluctant to see that these two things are actually at war right now, but I believe this analysis is spot on.

Let me be clear where I stand: I’m firmly in the camp that is advocating for natural health, medical freedom, and quality of human lives. I’m against segregation and discrimination of any kind (whether based on skin color, religion, or medical status). And I hope you share my values too.
