Blueberry Chia Porridge Ingredients:

  • 1/4 recipe Chia Gel (see below)
  • 1/2 cup fresh nut or seed milk (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon flax seed, freshly ground (optional)
  • 1/2 cup blueberries, quick pulsed in food processor or hand chopped
  • 1/4 cup shredded, unsweetened, raw coconut
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon cardamom stevia if desired for extra sweetness
Directions:

  1. Put Chia Gel in a bowl
  2. Sprinkle in ground flax seeds and stir well
  3. Stir in blueberries, coconut, and cardamom and stir well
  4. Check sweetness and add stevia if desired
Chia Gel Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup chia seeds
  • 2 1/2 cups water
Directions:

  1. Put chia and water into a quart-sized Mason jar or glass bowl that can be covered. Shake or mix well.
  2. Allow to stand at room temperature for 8 hours or overnight, or for 12 or more hours in the refrigerator. Store up to a week in the refrigerator.
This recipe makes enough for 4 days of chia porridge.

  6. Unemployment: An 18-year study found that people who lost 1 job had a 22% increased risk of a heart attack, and people who lost 4 or more jobs were 63% more likely to have a heart attack.

URGENT ACTION ITEM: TAKE A STAND FOR THE CHILDREN
Pfizer Said It's Not Ready, but the White House Wants It
The FDA will meet February 15, 2022 to discuss expanding the Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for Pfizer’s covid jab to children 6 months to 5 years old. Pfizer itself said the vaccine is not ready, but the White House asked them to submit an application anyway!
We need to act now to tell the FDA this is completely unacceptable!
They cannot vote on the safety and efficacy of a vaccine regimen for our youngest children without having data to vote on!
Make a comment in the Federal Register for the FDA and its advisory committee VRBPAC to see. Demand on record to see the evidence they are basing their decisions on. Our nation’s children need us more than ever right now.
These comments are read! Members of both the FDA and CDC Advisory Committee are more and more frequently making commentary and asking questions during their meetings based on public comments. At Friday's ACIP meeting, one member mentioned the large quantity of “queries” she received about data around the definition of vaccination and stated the info had to be collected better. Your voices are being heard!
Approval would make approximately 18 million more children eligible for an experimental jab. The White House is acting fast so we must act faster.

Are People Taking Wrong Heart Meds?

Millions of Americans may be getting the wrong treatment to prevent a heart attack or stroke, a recent study suggests. Prescriptions for blood-thinning aspirin, cholesterol-lowering statins, and blood pressure medications might be incorrect because a tool that estimates risk appears to be off by as much as 20%, Stanford University researchers reported.

That means almost 12 million Americans could have the wrong medication, according to the team led by Dr. Sanjay Basu, an assistant professor of medicine.

Risk estimate tools predict the likelihood of a future heart attack or stroke in the next 10 years. Doctors use these tools to help them decide what treatment a patient needs, if any at all.

But these tools are only helpful if they're accurate. There's been concern that some of the statistical methods employed to develop a commonly used risk estimate tool in 2013 may be prone to miscalculating risk.

The study authors cited the example of a 46-year-old white male smoker with normal blood pressure and abnormal cholesterol levels. The risk estimate tool said this man would have about an 11% risk of a heart attack or stroke resulting from plaque buildup in the arteries in the next 10 years.

When the researchers used the same information but changed his race to Black, the tool dropped the risk to less than 7%. That would mean that being Black lowered the man's risk of a heart attack or stroke by 40%. Yet past research suggests that being Black raises, not reduces, the risk of heart attack and stroke.

Basu said using more recent data is one way to boost accuracy. When he and his colleagues updated the statistical modeling, they produced what they feel is a more accurate estimation. However, he said this new risk estimation calculator needs to be validated by other researchers to ensure its accuracy.

Access Your Inner "Doctor"​

For the longest time I was a "head" case, meaning that I tended to rely on my intellect and totally ignored or even argued with my intuition.
I had great intuition, but I nearly always talked myself out of it.
I acted used my intellect, or its opposite--momentary impulses, or other people's opinions to guide my decisions. And boy did these often misguide me.
This was especially damaging in trying to resolve my health challenges.
Early in my health journey (in my 20s), I tried every health idea that came along because somebody spoke passionately about it (other people's opinions), and/or because it made logical sense to me (my intellect), and/or because I was desperately grasping at straws (momentary impulses).
To be fair, some of what I tried helped. But I also got stuck in loops of trying harder at the same things that weren't working, simply because they made logical sense to me, or because they seemed to be working for so many others.
And sometimes things that I tried were too aggressive for where my body was at, and I literally seriously harmed myself with things like extreme diets or overly-high doses of certain supplements.
Flash forward about 20 years into my mid-40s, and I finally started to learn how to tap into my body's "knowing", my inner "doctor", through "muscle-testing".
If you're a skeptic of such things, I totally understand because "muscle testing", aka "kinesiology", can be wildly innaccurate.
However, there are methods to make it quite accurate, and some methods have even been validated by research (look up "Omura O-ring" on PubMed).
And this can be a godsend because it can help you sort through the myriad of health-related options and decisions confronting you weekly, if not daily.
I use it to hone in on the foods my body wants for a given meal, to choose the supplements and doses my body wants in the moment, to help assess the cause of a health issue in my body, and more.
I don't believe that anybody's testing is perfect, but I'm getting better and better at obtaining what seem to be accurate answers based on the results of implementing the answers that I get. It's so cool.

When baby food companies use tiny nanomaterials in infant formula, BIG health risks follow.
That’s why we’re petitioning the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to prohibit all engineered nanomaterials in infant formula until the formula is proven to be safe for infants to consume.
Tell FDA to require proof that infant formula with nanoparticles is safe for infants to consume before the formula can be sold!
For too long, FDA has allowed baby food companies like Gerber and Similac to add nanoparticles to their products and decide for themselves that their product is safe to consume under the Generally Recognized as Safe (GRAS) rule that was originally intended for changes that involve everyday ingredients such as salt.
But nanoparticles are not everyday ingredients.
These particles are so tiny that they can change a substance’s entire structure. Because they’re so small (about 1/100,000th of the width of one human hair), nanoparticles have the potential to penetrate the blood-brain barrier and to be absorbed by the body more quickly. Many elements, like carbon, that are relatively stable in larger quantities become toxic when reduced to their nano size.
The risks in producing food with nano-titanium dioxide are so great that the European Food Safety Agency (EFSA) concluded that titanium dioxide could no longer be considered a safe food additive because of the way it accumulates in the body.
Tell FDA: Baby food companies shouldn’t get to decide for themselves if their brand’s nanoparticle infant formula is safe for infants to consume!
Our friends at Friends of the Earth commissioned the first-ever laboratory studies on the use of engineered nano materials in baby food sold in the U.S. and found nano-titanium dioxide to be one of three nano-sized structures causing concern. Friends of the Earth also found nano-silicon dioxide in infant formula, which has been shown to accumulate undissolved in the livers of mice and rats.
The study also found nano-hydroxyapatite in needle-like form in the baby formulas, which has been linked to cell death in the liver and kidneys of rats. The European Commission’s Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety advises even cosmetic companies against using nano-hydroxyapatite in cosmetics. If European science authorities are advising against a nanoparticle being used in European makeup, we shouldn’t be putting it in infant formula to feed babies here in the U.S.!
FDA must change its protocol so that adding nanoparticles to infant formula requires a baby food company to reregister it as a new formula, followed by rigorous agency screening before FDA can approve it. FDA should declare all infant formulas made with nanoparticles that have not been through this rigorous screening review process to be adulterated and recall them immediately.
We must convince FDA to protect infants from nanoparticles in infant formula. Take action now.

We herbalists all have one fear in common...

Dr. David Brownstein, M.D., writes:

When I was in medical school, I was taught that performing bloodwork after a fast was the best way to assess a patient’s cholesterol and cardiovascular status. As I’ve gained more experience, I’ve found that fasting blood tests really don’t offer much over non-fasting blood tests.

A study in the Cleveland Clinic Journal of Medicine attempted to determine whether fasting or non-fasting tests are better for lipid monitoring.

Special: The Hidden Cause of Fatigue & Low Energy

The authors make a convincing argument that non-fasting blood tests should be the standard of care when assessing lipid levels because for most people, the differences between fasting and non-fasting measures are small and not clinically relevant.

Many patients — including elderly people and diabetics — can suffer adverse effects from fasting.

The truth is that there really wasn’t much science behind the idea that fasting tests were better than non-fasting tests. In fact, there are no randomized trials that demonstrated that result.

As with much of medicine, the superiority of fasting blood tests is an old wives’ tale.

Dr. David Brownstein, M.D., editor of the Natural Way to Health newsletter, is a board-certified family physician and one of the nation’s foremost practitioners of holistic medicine. People who are new to dedicated fitness routines, and even those with experience, often wonder about the effectiveness of supplements. It is necessary to understand the purpose of supplements as a complement to regular fitness and nutrition to understand the potential benefits. Taking whey and creatine help with building muscle, but they are not miracle substances. Diet and fitness, like anything else worthwhile, take disciple, practice and commitment. Therefore, understanding the effectiveness of supplements comes down to understanding the basics of a healthy lifestyle.

Nutrition and Fitness


A well-balanced nutrition plan and thought-out exercise routine allow people to make excellent progress naturally, without the addition of pills and powders. Whether your goal is weight loss, muscle gain or strength building, regular fitness and a healthy diet will help in that endeavor.

However, supplements are useful tools in combination with diet and exercise. Unfortunately, people often have high expectations. Taking a supplement will not make you Hercules, especially without putting in the work. Supplements are not miracle drugs that automatically alter your DNA and reshape your body; they are a tool, like gym equipment.

Supplemental Boost


Supplements can provide an extra boost to muscle gain, but the results vary by person. Some people may experience a 15% gain using supplements, while others only achieve 5%. Still, other lifters may not experience any benefit from specific supplements because their body does not respond well to it. The crucial piece of information to keep in mind is that supplements are not meant to replace nutrition and fitness. To achieve optimum results, you need to combine a well-executed exercise program and a balanced diet with supplements.

Supplement Safety


Supplements that undergo the legal requirements in the manufacturing and distribution process are safe, but that does not mean you should take any of these products. The key to understanding the safety of the supplement is knowing how and who manufactured it. While people obsess over labels that stress natural ingredients, it is necessary to acknowledge that almost all supplements are chemically produced in labs across the country. For example, creatine is often referred to as a natural supplement because the body produces it, and it is found in fish and meat. However, creatine supplements are produced through chemical processes in a lab. Despite the manufacturing process, most supplements are safe, but you should always consult with a doctor before adding anything new to your diet.

Types of Supplements


When discussing the types of supplements, they typically fall into two categories: pre-workout and standard. Pre-workout supplements are designed for the busy individual because they intensify the workout, but these supplements are not right for everyone. Standard supplements include whey protein and creatine, along with other daily vitamins and minerals.

Mental Preparation


Developing a new habit is challenging, and it is common to look for shortcuts to progress. When starting a fitness journey, commit to the complete process, diet and exercise. Turn fitness and health into something rewarding because success is just as much about mental preparation as it is about the tools and process.

Workout supplements are supportive elements of a well-balanced diet and well-thought-out exercise program. Most people will see benefits from supplements if they do the work and commit to the fitness routine.
