Beating Candida in 6 Natural Ways

Okay, so what can you do to beat candida naturally?

🍰 1. Avoid sugar

To eliminate its fuel supplies, you need to avoid sugar as yeast thrives off it. This includes sweets, cakes, processed foods, soft drinks, juices, and alcohol. High carbohydrate foods even, such as grains, fruit, and starchy vegetables should be consumed sparingly or avoided initially as well as milk and dairy products.

🍄 2. Avoid fermented foods

Avoid fermented foods and foods that contain yeast and mould such as sauerkraut, kombucha, bread, mushrooms, muffins, pastries, vinegar, vegemite, mustard, peanuts, and alcohol (especially beer and wine).

🥬 3. Enjoy a whole foods diet

Make sure you drink plenty of water to flush out the kidneys and bowels of wastes and acidity. Introduce herbal teas such as peppermint, ginger, and echinacea to increase your water intake and cleanse digestion.

Kill off the candida using antifungal and antibacterial herbs such as oregano, garlic, barberry, thyme, and pau d’arco.

It turns out you can can spur on your sperm by adding walnuts to your daily menu. That’s because this nut is packed with alpha linoleic acid, one of the omega-3s that help protect you from inflammation and associated diseases such as diabetes, atherosclerosis, and osteoporosis.

Male infertility problems typically have to do with how many sperm there are, how they move, and their physical shape. You may have too few because you're overweight, smoke cigarettes, or use certain drugs, both recreational and prescription. In addition, there's a genetic component for about 6 percent of guys with a low count, and environmental toxins also can play a role.

Slow-moving spermatozoa may also be the result of too high a temperature in your pants, tight underwear, or deficiencies of vitamins and zinc. And misshapen sperm are caused by all of the above — lifestyle choices, environmental toxins, and genetic mutations.

If you want to boost your fertility, here's the four-part plan:

  1. Eat 2 1/2 ounces of walnuts — about 35 walnut halves — a day.

Cells have a complex internal communication system that carries signals from the cell membrane to its interior, activating other signaling molecules that regulate a host of functions. Beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) has been shown to inhibit a series of enzymes called histone deacetylases (HDACs), which reduces free radical damage to cells.

This represents an important way that ketones protect cells from free radical damage.

DASH Diet Lowers Heart Failure Risk

The Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension diet, known as DASH, is high in fruits, vegetables, nuts, whole grains, poultry, fish, and low-fat dairy products. It is low in salt, red meat, sweets, and sugar-sweetened beverages.

The diet's mission is to fight high blood pressure. But a recent study suggests the eating plan may also significantly lower the risk of heart failure in people younger than 75.

Special: Top Cardiologist Reveals Secret for a Healthy Heart

For the study, the researchers reviewed the heart health records of nearly 4,500 Americans, aged 45 to 84, from various ethnic groups. The participants had no previous history of heart disease.

They provided information about their eating habits and were followed for 13 years. Among people younger than 75, those who most closely followed the DASH diet had a 40% lower risk of developing heart failure than those with the lowest compliance to the diet, the study found.

While it is similar to the Mediterranean diet, the DASH diet differs in that it recommends low-fat dairy products and excludes alcohol.

If you suffer from anxiety, here are my suggestions for you:

  • You need to make sure you have stable blood sugar and are eating enough protein and healthy fat at every meal. (as well as loads of veg)
  • You wean off meds like benzos because they will only keep you stuck (work with your doctor...it's dangerous to do solo)
  • Heal your gut...leaky gut causes inflammation in your brain which leads to anxiety and depression.
  • Optimize your hormones....if your adrenals or thyroid are whacky...you're going to feel anxious.
  • Notice if you are in your body or in your head. If you stay too cerebral, you will feel anxious.
  • Clear past traumas. My PTSD played a role in my triggers.
  • And ask yourself "where or what am I not trusting". Identify your source of mistrust, dissolve it with reframe, gratitude and radical forgiveness.
Also, don't hesitate to ask for assistance. You don't have to go through this alone. Realizing I didn't have to force myself through things to show my strength or worthiness has been one of life's most important lessons for me. When I ask for help, I not only get results quicker but it's a much more enjoyable process.

CONFIDENCE​

Cancer shakes everything, and I mean to the core. The vision you had for your life, your belief in your health, your relationship with your body, and definitely your confidence in a bunch of areas. Your self-confidence takes a hit when your body goes through massive changes. Your confidence in your ability to do things the way you used to is damaged. But your confidence in the belief that you will have a long and happy life, the depletion of that is most definitely the most challenging to take.

I would argue that the struggle to keep your head above the mental and emotional turmoil is the most difficult aspect of a cancer journey. The physical seems logical and actionable, but even if you achieve physical healing, the mental and emotional obstacles remain firmly in your path.

Increasing that confidence in your health and and your and your body’s ability to heal is one of the most important things you can do to support your mental and emotional health. I truly don’t know how I would have gotten through cancer as well as I did without the buoyancy of that confidence (I wouldn’t have, is the answer). It may ebb and flow from one day, or moment, to the next, but it’s always there, within my grasp if I just reach out.

But HOW, you might be asking; how do you generate confidence in a situation that often feels entirely helpless and hopeless? Different things will be helpful for different people, but I can share with you what has helped me in this endeavour:

  • First and foremost, becoming an active patient by taking control of my health and “joining my healthcare team”, as I like to say
  • Learning and understanding the root causes of cancer and which of those may have been factors for me
  • Choosing to take an integrative route that addressed not just the symptoms of cancer but those systemic, root causes that we identified as being factors for me through a holistic, whole-person approach
  • Looking for the lessons, the positives, the personal growth that has been gifted to me through this experience, even on the days when that was the most difficult thing to bring myself to do
  • Practicing gratitude for everything, big and small, and reminding myself often of how lucky I am to be here in this life, cancer and all (okay, so maybe the cancer wasn’t lucky, but all the positive things that have come from my experience with it certainly are)
  • Monitoring my health and heading off problems as soon as possible before they become something more problematic and difficult to deal with, like a new tumour
  • Developing a belief in my self worth and the fact that I am worthy of vibrant health, a long and happy life, and tons of love
There are very likely more, but these are the big ones that come to mind when I pose the question of “How?” to myself. They may be different for you, but I urge you to discover what does work in nurturing your confidence, because confidence leads to hope, hope leads to happiness, and happiness leads to vitality. And we are all deserving of that.

Diet and Nutrition: Recipes​

I'm a soupie groupie! It’s of course soup season, and I made a new one recently that we absolutely LOVED. We had some leftover chicken, and instead of the usual chicken vegetable soup, I decided to try something new. Thai food has my favourite flavour profile: spicy, sweet, and sour all rolled into one. This soup combines all three as well, and I’m sure it will become a new go-to in our kitchen. As a bonus, it also contains some powerful anti-cancer and detoxing herbs and spices like turmeric, ginger, chilli, and cilantro (or parsley).

Tips and Tools: Oral Health​

Oral care is extremely important when it comes to cancer. There is a link between oral health issues and cancer, such as having to get root canals (I myself had 2 root canals prior to my diagnosis). You also have to be careful about the timing of oral care while you're going through treatment, and so doing all you can to care for your teeth so you can avoid extra procedures and very important. Switching to a biological or holistic dentist can be a great move as well.

Cancer Warrior Canada recently hosted a webinar on oral care after a cancer diagnosis, and while the event itself is already over, check out this oral health info that they posted this week in the Solis Facebook group.

In my first year after diagnosis, I started to have realizations about different things I was learning from cancer: ways I was changing, positive growth I was experiencing, and how my perspective on life was shifting. I started writing them down, and it is something that I continue today.
