Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death for people with diabetes, who face twice the risk of heart attack. Even though the risk of other complications from diabetes has declined, cardiovascular risk has proved to be more difficult to lower.

But getting fit can definitely help. The European Society of Cardiology is among those recommending that people with diabetes adopt an exercise plan.

In fact, they’ve included this recommendation in their new treatment guidelines.

“Diabetes doubles the risk of mortality but the fitter patients become, the more that risk declines. Unfortunately, the majority of patients do not engage in exercise programs,” said Netherlands cardiologist Dr. Hareld Kemps, lead author of the organization’s position paper. “I can’t stress enough how much even small increases in activity can benefit patients with Type 2 diabetes and heart problems. Interrupting sitting with brief bouts of walking improves glucose control, while two hours of brisk walking per week reduces the risk of further heart problems.”

High-intensity interval training — alternating moderate and vigorous activity — is most effective at boosting fitness and controlling blood sugar.

Unfortunately, this may not be safe for some patients. If you have a pre-existing health issue, ask your doctor for a personalized fitness plan.

Why Does Cancer Love Sugar?
The short answer is that cancer cells feed on sugar. Yes, these cells need to eat too, and the substance they feed on most is glucose.

Dr. Otto Warburg was the first to discover the metabolic characteristics of cancer over 100 years ago. Research during the 1990s found that cancer cells contain exponentially more insulin receptor sites than healthy cells do.

Now new evidence suggests that sugar may encourage cancer tumor cells to grow directly. (1)

Here is more proof of the connection between sugar and cancer:

  • Before a person diagnosed with cancer gets a PET (Positron Emission Tomogra-phy) scan, the patient is usually given an injection of sugar. As cancer cells rush to the sugar molecules, the doctor can determine how much cancer is there. (that one is freaky!!)

  • Glucose is used as a "bait" in certain cancer therapies such as IPT (Insulin Potentiated Therapy).

  • Sugar affects a protein called MondoA, which is responsible for turning genes on and off, according to researchers at the Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah. (2)
The good news is that cutting off the supply of sugar into the body appears to suppress cancer growth, says a 2011 report published in the journal Nutrition and Metabolism. (3)

And according to researchers at UCLA’s Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center, starving cancer of sugar activates a "metabolic and signaling amplification loop" that literally results in cancer cell death and heightened effectiveness of antioxidant cancer therapies like vitamin C. (4)

It's Monday, the start of a big week here in Lansing, Michigan. One big thing is prepping for my next online event, the Mindset Matters Summit; more on that coming soon:)

Anyway, as I learned how important regular bowel movements are for mind, body, and overall health, I became less and less reluctant to address it with patients, clients, family, and friends.

But, I understand that so many are still embarrassed to talk about bowel issues.

They suffer in silence with constipation, belly pain, or bloating.

Here's the thing: poor bowel movements also have devastating effects on brain & mental health.

It sounds totally unrelated, but it's true.

In light of the startling increase in reports of reproductive issues following vaccination, ICAN’s attorneys recently wrote a letter to our federal health agencies demanding to know why Americans were not given the same strict instructions regarding COVID-19 vaccines and reproduction that Pfizer gave its clinical trial participants.

A recent episode of The HighWire focused on reproductive harms seemingly resulting from COVID-19 vaccines, including the alarming rise in miscarriage and stillbirth rates. ICAN’s legal team had already sent a letter to the FDA and CDC asking for a formal response to the questions raised by The HighWire. In the letter, ICAN’s attorneys point out that Pfizer elected to implement very strict protocols around reproduction in its COVID-19 clinical trial, including:

  • requiring males to abstain from donating sperm and from heterosexual sex with women of childbearing potential unless they agreed to use a condom and a “highly effective method of contraception” for “at least 28 days” after their last shot;
  • banning women of childbearing potential entirely unless they were “using an acceptable contraceptive method” for at least 28 days after their last shot; and
  • banning pregnant or breastfeeding women.

This was likely for good reason since Pfizer had virtually no data on its vaccine’s effects on reproduction or on breastfeeding babies except for one study conducted prior to the clinical trial which showed lipids and mRNA concentrated in the testes for up to 48 hours post-vaccination. Unfortunately, as the letter points out, post-marketing studies now show pregnancy and menstrual abnormalities, impairment of semen concentration and mobility and, worst of all, an increased incidence of spontaneous abortion associated with COVID-19 vaccination.

In light of this, ICAN’s letter asked three pointed questions, including a request for an explanation as to why federal health agencies, instead of giving the same strict study protocol instructions to the American public, went the opposite direction and strongly promoted that everyone 6 months and older receive a COVID-19 vaccine as soon as eligible – including pregnant and breastfeeding women. ICAN additionally demanded to know what evidence or safety data the FDA and CDC had in making this recommendation and what studies, if any, are being conducted on the issue that have not been made public.

ICAN will keep you posted on any response we receive on this alarming issue but, in the interim, you can read the full letter here.

Peripheral artery disease (PAD) occurs when cholesterol builds up in blood vessels supplying blood to the legs, slowing or even blocking the flow of blood. The condition affects about 8.5 million Americans.

Symptoms include pain or cramping when walking, loss of muscle mass, skin that's cool to the touch, and sores or ulcers on the legs or feet that are slow to heal.

Regular physical activity and supervised exercise programs are key treatments for PAD. However, the authors of a recent study suggest soaking in hot water followed by light exercise may benefit PAD as much as a longer exercise session.

Researchers compared blood pressure and walking distance in two groups, each with 11 PAD patients. One group did up to 90 minutes of walking and resistance training once or twice a week.

The other group, dubbed the heat therapy group, soaked in a pool with warm water (about 102 degrees Fahrenheit) for 20 to 30 minutes and then did up to 30 minutes of calisthenics three to five times a week.

"There was no evident difference between the effects observed in heat therapy via spa bathing and a supervised exercise program," wrote Ashley Akerman and colleagues from the University of Otago and Dunedin Public Hospital in New Zealand.

Dr. Yi-Ming Yang, associate director of peripheral intervention at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, called the idea of using heat therapy to alleviate symptoms of claudication "provocative." Yang said the heat therapy likely increased circulation around the clogged or narrowed blood vessels in the legs.

What really is a cancer cell? Are they cells with evil intentions? No, they are cells under stress which basically means the cells have been asked to do something that they don’t have the energy to complete. With the billions of cells in our body, what makes the cancer cell its own breed?

  • High levels of glucose uptake. Otto Warburg was the first to understand cancer’s high rate of glycolysis (the process of extracting glucose for energy). I should note here that this doesn’t necessarily mean cancer cells specifically love sugar. The cancer cell is actually munching on amino acids which results in sugar, and the sugar turns into fat for the cell to use for energy. It’s not that the cell loves sugar, the cell is simply unable to oxidize sugar in a normal manner. The excess glucose converts into the next feature of cancer, lactate.
  • High lactate secretion. Lactic acid is not focused on as much in the cancer world, but it can play a huge role in tumor growth, angiogenesis (the formation of new blood cells), and metastasis (cancer cells spreading). High amounts of lactic acid are dangerous because it is an “excitatory signal” and in already stressed cancer signal, that’s the last thing we need because it depletes the cell’s energy and further disturbs the cell’s metabolism.
  • These two features are whats known as the Warburg Effect and they can occur at levels thirty times greater than normal cells. It doesn’t stop there! The aforementioned elevated glucose uptake leads to elevated lactate secretion, which ultimately results in a unique pattern of negative charges. It is the lactate that gives the cancer cell its negative charges and consequently a magnetic separation between healthy cells and cancer cells. Therefore another trait of cancer cells is negative charges, and this is currently being researched for early detection purposes.

A healthy cells is working smoothly. Its processes are running clean. A cancer cell had the same intentions. However, the environment in the body reduced the cells capabilities to fulfill all the necessary movements and its metabolism is no longer healthy. These metabolic patters of a cancer cell can help us better understand the diagnosis and treatments!​

Revolutionary New Treatments for Surviving Stroke

Not long ago, if a person had a stroke there wasn’t really much that could be done except hope the patient survived and was spared brain damage. But stroke treatment has been revolutionized in recent years, much as heart attack treatment was years ago.

There are now treatments that can save a stroke victim’s life and even reverse damage caused by a stroke. The catch is this: They need to be done quickly. Time is of the essence.

Tissue plasminogen activator (TPA) is a drug that, if given up to four hours following a stroke, can dissolve the clot, stopping or even reversing brain damage. Unfortunately, although TPA was approved more than two decades ago, a recent New York Times investigation found that about 30% of patients who qualify are not given it, due to concerns it may cause a brain bleed.

Thrombectomy

Just as angioplasty revolutionized the treatment of heart disease, a similar catheter-based procedure is doing the same for stroke. In a thrombectomy, a cage-like stent is guided through the patient’s circulatory system and catches the blockage, removing it.

The most amazing aspect of this procedure is that it can be used as long as 16 hours after a stroke has occurred. In fact, under certain conditions, it can be effective up to 24 hours later, which is extremely important since 40% of strokes occur when a person is asleep.

I hear this all the time from so called "health gurus" online.

They clearly have no idea what they're talking about.

Every plant food on the planet has most if not all of the essential acids your body needs to create all the proteins your body needs to thrive.

Plants are an incredible source of protein.
