SURPRISING HEALTH BENEFITS OF CRYING

There is still a lot of stigma out there about crying. Many people feel embarrassment or guilt about it.

This may be especially true for some men still.

However, I do personally know plenty of women who feel embarrassed about it and even apologize for crying when in the presence of others.

Let's PLEASE get rid of this notion altogether!

You see, crying is a perfectly natural and even necessary act for your health and well-being.

In fact, recent research has found that crying is a very powerful way to activate your parasympathetic nervous system.

Your parasympathetic nervous systems shuts off the" fight or flight" cortisol-producing sympathetic nervous system...

...And most people need far more parasympathetic nervous system activation today because so many feel "trapped" in an excesive state of stress (and, as you know, this excess stress is a leading contributor of many diseases).

Furthermore, research also found that tears contain actual stress hormones, which means you are literally crying stress out of your body!

With these biological facts in mind, studies have found that crying is outstanding for easing both physical and emotional pain you may be experiencing.

In short -- and rather ironically -- crying can make you feel significantly happier afterwards.

Research has even shown that crying may help you sleep better!


CRYING CLUBS.... OR AT LEAST LETTING YOUR TEARS FLOW

In Japan, they understand and embrace the incredible health benefits of crying so much that they have crying clubs called "rui-katsu."

People gather in the crying clubs to intentionally let the tears flow together, which they rightfully claim is outstanding for mental health.

While crying clubs may or may not catch on here, please never be embarrassed to have a good cry -- and encourage those around you to do the same.

This is especially true if you suffer any sort of physical or emotional pain.

And just like making the intentional choice to get plenty of smiles and laughter in your life, it’s a-ok and in fact highly recommended to do the same with crying!

Perhaps that means having deep conversations with friends and loved ones... recalling and sharing your own memories... or reading tearjerker books and watching tearjerker movies.

On that last note, here are several great and recently made tearjerker movie recommendations for you:

I remember when I first found out about broccoli sprouts and sulforaphane early on after Ryder was diagnosed Jim…

Vitamin K2 protects against LPS-induced inflammation and modulates estrogen metabolism​

To the section about testosterone and estrogen in the article about vitamin K2, I just added a few short paragraphs about the following:

  1. Vitamin K2 protects against the testosterone-tanking effect of inflammation induced by bacterial endotoxin (LPS), i.e. dysbiosis and leaky gut.
  2. Vitamin K2 appears to modulate estrogen metabolism by decreasing the ratio of estradiol to estrone inside of cells, with potential implications for thyroid function in women with estrogen dominance.
  3. Some researchers are starting to view vitamin K2 as a hormone.

Today's Recipe: Chicken Piccata​

Ingredients
  • 8 skinless, boneless chicken breast halves
  • cayenne pepper, or to taste
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste
  • coconut flour for dredging
  • 1/4 cup extra virgin coconut oil
  • 2 tablespoons capers, drained
  • 1 cup white wine
  • 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/3 cup cold unsalted butter, cut in 1/4-inch slices
  • 1/4 cup fresh Italian parsley, chopped
Directions
  1. Place chicken breasts between 2 layers of plastic wrap and pound to about 1/2-inch thick.
  2. Season both sides of chicken breasts with cayenne, salt, and black pepper; dredge lightly in flour and shake off any excess.
  3. Heat extra virgin coconut oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Place chicken in the pan, reduce heat to medium, and cook until browned and cooked through, about 5 minutes per side; remove to a plate.
  4. Cook capers in reserved oil, smashing them lightly to release brine, until warmed though, about 30 seconds.
  5. Pour white wine into skillet. Scrape any browned bits from the bottom of the pan with a wooden spoon. Cook until reduced by half, about 2 minutes.
  6. Stir lemon juice, water, and butter into the reduced wine mixture; cook and stir continuously to form a thick sauce, about 2 minutes. Reduce heat to low and stir parsley through the sauce.
  7. Return chicken breasts to the pan cook until heated through, 1 to 2 minutes. Serve with sauce spooned over the top.

Blood Pressure in Women Rises Earlier in Life Than Men

The media often portray heart disease as a man's problem, but new research suggests that women's blood vessels actually age faster than men's do.

The new study found that blood pressure started increasing in women as early as the third decade of life, and it continued to rise higher than blood pressure in men throughout their life span. The researchers said that this early change in blood pressure sets the stage for different types of cardiovascular disease later in life.

"Women actually start out with a lower blood pressure," explained study senior author Dr. Susan Cheng, director of public health research at the Smidt Heart Institute at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

"If you think of it like a race, women start behind the starting line. So, when they get to the finish line, women have gotten there by running faster and harder, [which] causes more stress to their systems," she added.

The study included more than 32,000 people ranging in age from 5 to 98. Over four decades, the researchers gathered almost 145,000 blood pressure measurements.

The investigators found that women showed signs of higher blood pressure much earlier in life than men.

The author of an accompanying editorial, Dr. Nanette Wenger, explained, "What this study says is that blood pressure may be really important for women. The higher trajectory starts early and is a continuous rise. Women should know their blood pressure, and they should know when it changes."
