Small, mindful tweaks to our daily routines, like choosing supportive bedding, engaging in daily exercises to mobilize the rib cage, and incorporating regular stretching and strengthening exercises can help us feel better and more connected to our bodies.

Fruits and Vegetables Fight Dementia

Dr. David Brownstein, M.D., writes:

Researchers examined antioxidants, vitamins, and carotenoids to assess their association with Alzheimer’s disease among middle-age and older Americans. The data, published in the journal Neurology, was taken from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) collected every decade among a cross-section of U.S. citizens.

The authors studied the interactions of serum vitamins A, C, and E along with total and individual serum carotenoids and interactions with incident Alzheimer’s disease and all-cause dementia. After slightly less than 26 years of follow-up, serum levels of the carotenoids lutein, zeaxanthin, and β-cryptoxanthin were associated with a 7% lower risk of all-cause dementia.

Special: Doctor: All Multivitamins Are Not the Same

Dementia rates have been rising for many years, especially in older adults. The brain is particularly sensitive to oxidative stress due its high concentration of lipids (fats) and iron, both of which are susceptible to oxidation. Therefore, maintaining optimal antioxidant levels may help prevent dementia caused by oxidative stress in the brain.

This study found that certain carotenoids were associated with a reduced risk of all-cause dementia. It found no protective benefit with vitamins A, C, and E. Carotenoids are a family of natural substances that give vegetables and fruits vibrant colors.

To prevent oxidative stress and dementia, the most important thing you can do is eat a healthy diet full of natural antioxidants. The human body was designed to age well and maintain good brain function into older age if we supply it with the vital nutrients it needs.

Make sure your diet is full of colorful, carotenoid-containing foods.

Supplements Help Repair Cells

By Dr. Mehmet Oz and Dr. Mike Roizen, MDs

The comedian Andy Kaufman used to lip-sync part of the 1950s "Mighty Mouse" cartoon theme song: "Here I come to save the day!"

Well, another mighty mouse — several, actually — recently made their debut in a study published in the journal Nature, titled "Nicotinamide Riboside Preserves Cardiac Function in a Mouse Model of Dilated Cardiomyopathy."

One day they might save the day, too, for your heart and brain.

Special: Dr. Crandall Saved His Own Heart With This

Mitochondria, the power plants in each cell of your body, enable every cell's healthy metabolic activity. If they can’t deliver the energy your body needs, various organ systems suffer.

It's now known that as we age those mighty mitos may not get the support they need from a coenzyme called nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide, shortened to NAD.

But according to that Nature study, boosting NAD by taking its precursor, nicotinamide riboside (a form of niacin or vitamin B-3), may help repower the mitochondria and protect aging organs and the brain.

The researchers reported that mice with heart problems have lower NAD levels — as do humans with heart diseases.

Furthermore, they said that giving mice more nicotinamide riboside improves their heart health by restoring NAD levels.

And even more amazing, once the mice had more fuel for their mitochondria, they became Mightier Mice.

The NAD boost also improved memory impairment, which is very encouraging.

Let me give you 10 solid reasons to never eat artificial dyes again:

  1. Food companies use artificial dyes to get you to eat MORE of their processed product, which increases their sales (and your waistline). We already have a major obesity problem in this country, and this is just making it worse.
  2. Products with dyes are already insanely processed and universally unhealthy. When you ban dyes from your diet, you automatically avoid much of the heavily processed junk in stores that is horrible for your health.
  3. The Southampton Study in 2007 found a strong link between artificial dye consumption in children and increasing hyperactivity. When 3- to 8-year-olds were given test mixtures, they became “significantly more hyperactive”.
  4. Six artificial dyes require a warning label in Europe that they "may have an adverse effect on activity and attention in children”. If other countries deem them a risk, shouldn’t we also?
  5. In a recent scientific review, 16 out of 25 of studies associated dyes with neurobehavioral issues in children. There are now over 7 million children diagnosed with ADHD in this country. This is a MILLION more children than in 2016. MAYDAY! MAYDAY! We have a problem.
  6. The “acceptable levels” of dyes in food are based on 35- to 70-year-old studies, before the effects on children were known. We now know that just 1mg of dye can cause hyperactivity, while one serving of TRIX may contain over 30mg!
  7. A 2015 study found that artificial dyes can disrupt the immune system - making it easier for you and your kids to get sick.
  8. Researchers massaged Yellow 5 onto mice, and it turned their skin transparent. Just imagine what these dyes are doing to our insides…WTF
  9. Artificial dyes are made from petroleum. This is obviously not food, and many of us have been bamboozled into believing that it’s okay to eat cheap artificial substances made from CRUDE OIL…isn’t it time we stop believing that?
  10. Artificial dyes can be contaminated with cancer-causing substances. With cancer cases going up 1-2% per year in young people, getting carcinogens out of our food should be a top priority.
Check the ingredient label for these popular artificial dyes…

  • Yellow 5
  • Yellow 6
  • Red 40
  • Blue 1
  • Red 3 (banned but still in food until 2027)
  • Titanium Dioxide (banned in EU)
  • Caramel Color (often made from Ammonia)
  • “Color Added” (could be hidden Titanium Dioxide)

Beyond salads: Social dining for plant–based eaters

mail
One of the biggest hurdles in adopting or maintaining a plant-based lifestyle is the social aspect. Worrying about awkward restaurant visits, feeling left out at parties, or becoming the “difficult” friend can make even the most committed plant-based eater second-guess their choices.

With these tips, you'll navigate dining out and social events with confidence, proving that a plant-based diet and a vibrant social life can go hand in hand:

1. Research menus ahead of time. Most restaurants post menus online. Identify plant-based options or dishes that can be easily modified.

2. Call ahead. If menu options are limited, contact the restaurant. Many chefs are happy to accommodate dietary needs with advance notice.

3. Get creative with menu combinations. Learn to combine sides, appetizers, and modified mains to create satisfying meals. You can even create a satisfying meal from side dishes like salads, roasted vegetables, and grains.

4. BYO (Bring Your Own). For potlucks or gatherings, bring a delicious plant-based dish to share. It ensures you have something to eat and introduces others to tasty vegan options.

5. Keep snacks handy. Carry nuts, fruits, or energy bars for situations where plant-based options are scarce.

6. Communicate clearly. When ordering, politely explain your dietary needs to avoid misunderstandings. Most people are happy to accommodate when they understand, whether that’s your family, friends, or the restaurant staff.

7. Focus on the social aspect. Remember, events are about connecting with people, not just food. Enjoy the company and conversation.

8. Stay positive. Your diet is a personal choice. Respond to questions with enthusiasm and focus on the benefits you've experienced. Or simply say, “It’s working great for me!” to keep the tone light and neutral. This approach respects others' curiosity while maintaining your boundaries.

With practice, eating plant-based in social settings becomes second nature. Ready to fully embrace this lifestyle?

Your brain’s cup of tea

mail
In a country known for longevity, scientists have mapped out an intriguing connection between daily tea habits and cognitive health.

Researchers analyzed data from nearly 9,000 older adults in Japan, mostly aged 60 and above. They found that those who drank at least three cups (about 600 ml) of green tea daily had about 3% fewer brain lesions linked to dementia compared to those who drank just one cup (200 ml). Those who drank seven to eight cups daily (about 1,500 ml) had 6% fewer lesions.

Participants completed dietary questionnaires and underwent MRI brain scans. Even after adjusting for factors like age and exercise, the link between green tea and fewer brain lesions remained strong, thanks to its powerful neuroprotective ingredient called epigallocatechin gallate. However, green tea didn’t seem to make a difference for those with depression or a genetic risk for dementia.

While this study focused on older Japanese adults, this adds to growing evidence that green tea may support brain health. Drinking a few cups a day could be a simple and enjoyable habit with potential long-term benefits. Just be mindful of moderation to avoid side effects like digestive issues.

Matcha–glazed roasted vegetables with green tea soba noodles

This veggie bowl is a celebration of green tea in all its forms! We've taken the incredible antioxidant and brain-boosting benefits of green tea and matcha and transformed them into a gorgeous, satisfying meal. Paired with perfectly roasted seasonal vegetables and protein-packed edamame, every bite is as nutritious as it is delicious.
mail
Serves 4.

Ingredients:

Matcha-glazed vegetables:

  • 1 head cauliflower, cut into florets
  • 2 cups Brussels sprouts, halved
  • 2 cups shiitake mushrooms
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons white miso paste
  • 1 tablespoon high-quality matcha powder
  • 1 tablespoon date paste
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Green tea soba noodles:
  • 8 oz green tea soba noodles
  • 1 cup shelled edamame
  • 2 cups baby spinach
  • 3 green onions, sliced

Umami-rich sauce:
  • ¼ cup tamari or coconut aminos
  • 2 tablespoons toasted sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon brewed green tea, cooled
  • 1 thumb ginger, grated
  • 1 clove garlic, minced

Garnish:
  • Toasted sesame seeds
  • Microgreens
  • Chili flakes
Instructions:
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together your matcha glaze ingredients until smooth and vibrant green. The miso and matcha should be completely dissolved with no lumps.
  3. Toss your prepared vegetables with the glaze, ensuring each piece is well-coated. Arrange in a single layer on your baking sheet, giving them space to caramelize. Roast for 25-30 minutes, turning halfway through, until edges are golden and vegetables are tender-crisp.
  4. Meanwhile, bring a large pot of water to boil. Cook your green tea soba noodles according to package instructions (usually 4-5 minutes). Rinse under cold water to prevent sticking.
  5. While noodles cook, whisk together all sauce ingredients in a bowl until well combined. The fresh ginger and garlic should be very finely minced for the best flavor distribution.
  6. In a large serving bowl, gently combine the cooked noodles, roasted vegetables, edamame, and fresh spinach. The residual heat will lightly wilt the spinach.
  7. Pour the sauce over everything and toss gently until well combined and everything is glossy with sauce.
  8. Finish with a generous sprinkle of sesame seeds, fresh microgreens, and chili flakes if desired. Serve immediately while hot.

Stories That Heal Podcast
Join us on the Radical Remission Project's “Stories That Heal” podcast featuring Marissa Moezzi, a Stage IV Adenocarcinoma Lung Cancer Thriver.
A nurse and mother of four, Marissa was initially diagnosed with stage 3b adenocarcinoma of the lung. Her treatment plan included 12 weeks of chemotherapy and radiation. However, on the first day of radiation, a new tumor was discovered along with pleural effusion. This led to an updated stage 4 diagnosis, for which no treatment was initially available.

Fortunately, Marissa had undergone genomic testing of her tumor and discovered she had a specific mutation that made her eligible for a targeted therapy. Just days after starting the treatment, her cough subsided, the fluid resolved, and the intense pain she had been experiencing disappeared. Within eight weeks, the new tumor was gone, and the original tumor had significantly reduced in size.

Despite these remarkable results, Marissa knew she couldn’t rely solely on the drug. Determined to take control of her health, she conducted extensive research and discovered Radical Remission. Fully committed, she embraced all of the healing factors outlined in the approach.

Today, Marissa has been cancer-free for seven years. She credits Radical Remission for her health and longevity, proving the power of integrating targeted therapies with holistic healing practices.
