GLP-1s, Anhedonia, and the Dopamine Trade-Off with Dr. Robin Berzin
Jim,

I went on a low dose of tirzepatide to move a couple of stubborn cholesterol markers ... and it moved a lot more than that.

Two sips into my espresso and my body said no thanks. The same thing happened with the drink I was looking forward to at a friend's dinner party, and in the bedroom, too.

I sat down with Dr. Robin Berzin to figure out what was happening. Her read is that GLP-1s work on the same reward circuitry as coffee, alcohol and social media: the nucleus accumbens and the VTA, the parts of the brain that hand out our motivation and our cravings.

I have spent years meditating to loosen my grip on craving, and here a drug did it for me in a matter of weeks. But what I got instead felt like the volume turned down across the board, good stuff included.

Here's some of what we got into:
  • Why losing your appetite for food can also mean losing it for coffee, alcohol and sex
  • What the dopamine and serotonin circuitry do when you're on a GLP-1
  • Why some people feel liberated when food noise disappears, and others feel flattened
  • The line between healthy desire and maladaptive craving

I came away from this conversation less interested in whether the drug works and more interested in what it costs.

I hope you'll listen in,
Jeff

NEW VIDEO!
Sometimes the plants everyone wants gone are worth a closer look.
Hey folks,
You’ve probably seen this plant before.
It grows along roadsides, riverbanks, fields, and plenty of other places people don’t particularly want it.
In fact, it’s considered one of the more invasive plants in North America.
But there’s another side to this plant that most people never hear about.
I had my own unexpected introduction to it years ago, and it completely changed the way I looked at it.
In this new video, I’ll show you the plant, tell you what happened, and explain why I think it deserves a second look.

Dear Jimi,

When creating Zonia, I wanted to build something more than a streaming platform for health, wellness & natural medicine.

I also wanted to create a hub where not only do you get access to all the amazing health and wellness content…

Yet you also can watch some of the most inspirational, empowering, and mission-driven live-action, documentary, and animation short films ever made in the world.

So whenever you feel like you need inspiration in your life, something to lift your spirit and make you smile, you can come to Zonia and watch one of our films.

So you can instantly lift up your spirits and mood.

Because, remember, our thoughts can become our reality.

That’s why being in an elevated good mood is great for your health and your soul.

And we know you’re a busy person.

That's why these short films are no longer than 20 min in length…

Yet will keep you feeling empowered for the rest of your week.

What’s more… We’re constantly adding new live-action, documentary, and animation short films on Zonia.

Some of those are Oscar Winners or Nominees.

In fact, we just added the Oscar-winning short film, “Toyland.”

“Toyland” tells a story about WWII through the eyes of a child.

Then there is another short film that qualified for the Oscars - “Life in Four Seasons.”

This is one of the short films that I produced and directed.

This short film is about a little boy who, guided by the spirit of his beloved grandfather, embarks on an epic dreamlike adventure through the past and present, encountering heroes of all kinds, before facing his own fears and finding the hero within.

For all who use an electric toothbrush
Please Quit usin it
New studies shoe that:

"You put your phone on airplane mode at night. You skipped the smart watch. Then you press a high-EMF motor against your skull twice a day and hold it there.
A University of Texas study measured electric toothbrushes at 370 milligauss of magnetic field exposure. That is stronger than a microwave measured from two inches away. Except nobody holds a microwave against their face.
Here's the mechanism: the motor sits inches from your brain, pulsing electromagnetic fields through your jaw for 2 full minutes, morning and night, every single day. And while it vibrates at 30,000+ strokes per minute, its nylon bristles shed microplastics onto gums that absorb 10x faster than skin. Two exposures. One device.
Long-term EMF exposure is linked to poor sleep, reduced focus, and neurological stress. The 3am wakeups. The brain fog no supplement fixes. The afternoon crashes blamed on everything except the device touching your head twice a day. EMF stickers didn't solve it. Switching back to a manual brush meant giving up the deep clean. The problem was never addressed at the source."

BREAKING: Vaccinated People Spread Measles. The CDC, the WHO, and Johns Hopkins Just Said So on the Record.

A new peer-reviewed study by CDC, WHO, and Johns Hopkins leadership found that nearly 8 out of every 100 vaccinated people who catch measles pass it to someone else. Almost a third of them had received two doses. And the world has exactly one study, of 137 people, trying to measure how much the vaccine actually reduces onward spread.

Hi Jimi,

Episode 4 just went live!

This next episode is vital to every single one of us. We will be going into powerful medicinal foods and herbs for… YOUR BRAIN!

You can use either of the two links below to watch it now for free. We are expecting a lot of viewers again tonight, so we’re making Episode 4 available on two different webpages. (If one takes a little while to load, just try the other one!)

Click here to watch Episode 4 - Watch Link A

Click here to watch Episode 4 - Watch Link B

You’re going to learn about healing dishes and culinary remedies for a whole spectrum of brainy issues.

We’ll explore nutrient-dense superfoods for the cognitive challenges that many of us struggle with - like brain fog, poor memory, lack of clarity and focus, ADHD, depression, and feelings of being scattered.

You'll also witness some "wonder-herbs" and mushrooms that can repair more serious neurological challenges and regenerate new brain tissue.

PLUS, you will hear amazing healing stories from real people who overcame all odds and reversed severe conditions using foods and other natural medicines. Very powerful stuff.

Western medicine offers precious little help for neurodegenerative conditions. In that paradigm, a diagnosis is often a life sentence. They say there is “no cure” for certain brain conditions... Well, this episode might just change their minds.

This week at Health Revolution Insider, we've been diving into two topics that tend to get oversimplified — and both are worth a few minutes of your time.

The first is about your heart. Specifically, about how a single mineral — potassium — controls the electrical rhythm of your heartbeat. Many people who experience palpitations or tachycardia never find out that the culprit isn't a structural problem at all, but a quiet deficiency that a blood test could catch in minutes. There's also a landmark 2025 clinical trial that completely changed how cardiologists are now thinking about potassium targets in high-risk patients.

The second piece is about acne — and before you scroll past, it's not another "wash your face twice a day" article. It covers the actual biology: why stress triggers breakouts through cortisol, why your gut microbiome talks to your skin, and why adult acne behaves so differently from what most people experienced as teenagers.

Both articles are live on the site. We'd love to hear from you — do your skin or energy levels tend to shift with diet or stress?

Natural way to “supercharge” herbal medicine
Hi Jimi,

For centuries, traditional healers relied on turmeric and ginger to address chronic pain, gut distress, and inflammation.

Today, clinical research confirms what ancient medicine always knew.

Now, as powerful as they are… there's something most people using these herbs have never been told.

On their own, the active compounds in turmeric break down too fast for your cells to absorb effectively.

But once you pair them with a specific "absorption key"… bioavailability increases by up to 2,000%.

This combination is being explored for its potential role in supporting:

  • The body's natural anti-inflammatory response at the cellular level

  • Everyday joint comfort and occasional muscle soreness

  • Soothing inflammatory gut conditions including chronic bloating
In our brand-new interview compilation…

Leading integrative doctors map out exactly how this ancient botanical synergy works inside your body.

If you’ve been struggling with everyday inflammation or digestive discomfort, I’d definitely encourage you to watch this:

=> Watch the full interview to discover the natural key that unlocks 20x higher absorption

To your health,

This week: healthier hair

Your hair grows in cycles. What happens when the cycle slows down?

The secret to fuller-looking hair may begin with helping more follicles return to their active growth phase.
Happy Saturday!
I have another newsletter for you—and this one is about hair.
More specifically, it’s about something most of us never think about until the shower drain starts looking a little too full:
Your hair’s natural growth cycle.
Hair doesn’t grow continuously. Every follicle moves through a repeating pattern of growing, transitioning, resting, and eventually releasing a strand so the next cycle can begin.
When that rhythm is healthy, most scalp hairs are actively growing. But a wide range of factors can push more follicles into the resting phase (we'll get into that more below).
That’s when the shedding may start to feel impossible to ignore.
1
Anagen
Active growth
2
Catagen
Short transition
3
Telogen
Rest before shedding

Growth depends on keeping the cycle in balance

The goal isn’t to eliminate the resting phase—rest is a normal part of hair biology. The goal is to support a healthy balance so follicles can transition back into anagen, the active growth phase.
That’s what makes a Swiss pea-sprout extract called AnaGain™ Nu so interesting.
Researchers studied whether it can influence signals involved in beginning a new growth phase and reduce excessive shedding...
The pea-sprout connection

They found 34% less shedding after one month.

In an eight-week pilot study, 21 adults with mild to moderate hair loss consumed 100 mg of AnaGain Nu daily. Researchers counted the hairs participants collected from their brushes:
Average collected hair loss fell 33.9% after 28 days.
The reduction continued through day 56.
Most participants reported noticing less hair loss by eight weeks.
Put simply: this pea extract may be doing something far more interesting for hair than anyone expected.
If you’ve noticed more hair on your pillow, in your brush, or circling the shower drain, don’t assume there’s only one possible cause.
Sudden, patchy, painful, or persistent hair loss deserves a conversation with a qualified healthcare professional or dermatologist.

Hey Jimi,
I recently sat down with my close friend and coworker Alex Leaf, a certified sports nutritionist and researcher, to dive deep into some of the most pervasive nutrition myths out there.
What impressed me most about our conversation was his ability to cut through the noise and bring real science to topics that are often clouded by dogma from different dietary camps.
We spent hours debunking myths from the low-carb crowd, the vegan community, and mainstream nutrition advice. Alex brings a level of nuance and evidence-based thinking that's rare in the health space.
Whether you're confused about protein, worried about cholesterol, or trying to understand why you can't lose weight, this episode has answers backed by actual research.
In this podcast, Alex and I discuss:
  • How fat cell dysfunction - not just excess calories - is the central issue driving most diet-related chronic diseases like diabetes and heart disease

  • Why the "carbs make you fat" narrative is scientifically inaccurate and what actually drives insulin resistance

  • The surprising truth about protein: why more is better as you age, and why protein restriction might not extend human lifespan

  • How excess energy in your bloodstream - versus the fat on your body - damages your heart, brain, and nerves

  • Why cholesterol numbers matter, but not in the way conventional medicine or the keto crowd thinks they do

  • The myth that saturated fat universally raises LDL: how the milk fat globule membrane changes everything

  • Why combining high-fat and high-carb meals prolongs blood sugar elevation and can sabotage your diet

  • The evidence-based case for collagen and glycine supplementation for joint health, skin, and longevity

  • How observational data gets misused to make false claims about animal protein and cancer

  • 3 practical nutrition priorities that actually matter for health, energy, and disease prevention
Yours in health,
