The latter for sure. I have 3 separate orders from Ft and one from focal... These parts were first ordered though

Orchid V4, Ignition clone base, Caravela 18350. Pretty nice and short. Height w/o drip tip is 74mm. Could make this ~8mm shorter with a 4Nine or SMPL (18350, not out yet) and different top cap.

PC112079 edit.jpg

Gonna do a big one with a brass SMPL 18650 mod and a custom 60mm tank to match it.

I just got my V4.

I ended up putting the enclosed Kayfun style tank with the clear middle section to the side.

I replaced it with one of these.

http://www.fasttech.com/products/3023/10009156/1662304

I filled it from the bottom almost all the way stopping about 2mm before the feeds in the base.

Replaced the fill screw, turned it right side up and let just a wee bit of liquid seep out from the air holes in the base.

Works great.

And FYI, I used...................You guessed it,

Ramie fiber for the wick.

Nice. I don't like the three-piece either. Get a bit more capacity with that Kayfun one-piece too. :)

Not to mention that it is easy and leak free (well except for a couple of drops) to fill the way I explained and I can pretty much fill to the top.

With the three peice, Lord what a mess!

Well, I got my FT order with the parts for my Orchid along with the Erl and Veritas RDA. :)

One slight problem..the main thing I wanted, the KF Quartz tank arrived seriously cracked and broken. Cut the o-ring as well.

Just banging around in there with the spare chimney....no cardboard tube for protection....just a bit of foam around them.

I've already filed a ticket, but fuccckkkk. Damn good thing I'd thought to add in a spare plastic KF tank..at least that will work. The rest of the stuff came in fine, really impressed with the quality of the Erls and Veritas.

Whoops. I should have warned about this in this thread. Every mounted glass tank I have received has arrived broken. On the other hand, every a la carte glass replacement has arrived fine. I suspect it's not just impact but mismatched expansion/contraction of the glass and steel in flight.

I've got a spare to tide you over if you like. Just PM your address.

yeah, they come broken more times than not. you would think they would package them differently with as many people that put in tickets for broken glass.

I've been verrry fortunate, never had a broken or lost FT order before in almost two years.

Everything is soaking now, I think the PMMA KF tank will tide me over, it seems to fit nicely.
SO glad I made that an afterthought purchase or I'd have nothing for the Orchid.

Thank you though, I'll see how it goes...
The rings are fine, I turned the nicked side of the o-ring down, seems usable still. Might just buy a Pyrex tube for it from a US site. :)

Unfortunately FT tickets ain't worth the paper they ain't written on IMO. :(
They must like me..I've always gotten quick action on the few tickets I've submitted.

Then again, I'm overly thorough with documentation and I am polite for the most part.

they have replaced 4 broken quartz tanks for me and other stuff that was broken (not much stuff)

Yeah, I got a bunch of glass stuff from FT before just fine...Pulse-G came intact.

That tank is really thin glass though, TBH, I'd like thicker. I had to wrap the cracked glass with tape just to get the rings off without damage as they were stuck to it. :-/

They just need to use a cardboard tube to protect them and NOT put a big hunk of metal like the chimney in loose with a glass tube. I told them so too. ;)

Sure, they responded fast to the filed ticket. But for the one thing I actually returned, they responded over a month later that they needed a photograph of my credit card to refund the amount. I will not do that.

Have either you ever returned something for an account credit? Haven't ever seen that option.

I use PP, so they have no problem with that. I've never returned anything to FT, or anywhere else vaping-related actually.

Since that experience, I only use PP with them. I suppose I ought to be filing for the various no good little shit, but I don't. I sorta feel that buying from FT is like buying black market. I'll take the bargain as is, fix it or scrap it.

Yeah, I mean, who sends back a $5-10 or less item??

I think the most pricey thing I've bought from them was like $40 for an entire order. I don't buy pricey things from China overseas.
When I got my Chana30 from FC, it was only because it shipped from the USA.

I'd rather wait a few months for it to lower in price here, or find it on Ebay, than risk actual money on FT. It's not like I NEED anything for vaping anymore...lol

Erl and Veritas are clean and drying now. So Many Little Parts.
(no, the other o-ring for the Erl top cap isn't missing, just didn't make the pic.)

One of the block screws on the Erl just would not come off...IDK. Not gonna fret about it. ;)

are you going to mod your erl?

IDK, I've not yet built it. Now that it's dried out and I've re-assembled everything, just have to see.

I'm not a lung-hitter or sub-ohm sort, so I think it'll be fine.

The air channels are not aligned quite right, so there is that low growl/whistle, which could be annoying. Or, it could abate when filled and in actual use. Not awake enough to actually build on a deck that small just yet. :)

The goods are rather handsome though....

I've fitted the KF PMMA tank on the Orchid, seems to fit nicely. Covering both airholes and attempting to blow air, I get nothing at all, which is a good sign of sealing AFAIK..

Damn near lost the top insulator for the Veritas RDA though. It dropped off and my cat nearly ate it thinking it was a treat...lol!

26650 Orchid, any good? Deck looks like its made for single coil setups?

Well, gents, I have good news. It's working with the PMMA KF tank. :D

Re-wicked my coils, and then assembled it. Then, I used my packing-taped 3ml syringe to fill it.
It fit in the fill port now and didn't blow back out at all. I got over 4ml in there, leaving about an 1/8" for vacuum space, with no problems and zero leaking anywhere. It is like it is a new atty. :D

I was blind, but now I can seeeee....my juice.

Fuck Yeaaahhh!! :D

Thanks to everyone for helping me to a great success with my Orchid. I swear it even vapes better now too.

That orchid looks like a piece of junk, 2 out of 2 negative reviews and not just kind of negative... one suggested to use it as a fishing sinker.
I wouldn't give them a dollar for that.

Nice setup caff.

I think it depends on how much air flow you want @Rommel. If you prefer a tighter Kayfun-like draw, it could be great for huge juice capacity. If you don't want to take a big step down from the 22mm Orchid airflow, forget it. I rejected it (in post #1) mainly because of its castrated airflow. Never understood why they chose to design it that way.

I have been temped to modify the base with two deck vents under the coils like it should be. But I have stopped myself each time. I don't really want that big an atty, so why put in the time and effort.

If you just want a bigger diameter tank to better match a 26650 mod, consider a "Confun" type tank. It is a 30mm dia. tank that fits over the 22mm Orchid base, giving you the big size and capacity without compromising the airflow and quality of the vape. We talked about these tanks a few pages back. I can't look now but will help you with links later if you like.

And yes, the big Orchid's deck is designed for dual coil.

Okay then. I did sort out the airflow on my Big Buddha, now it breathes like a magma with 2.5mm holes. But im always looking for more :D

My first RTA was an orchid, it ruined me. Kayfun, Squape, Russians, none of them will do... Airflow is a must, dual coils, a must, for me. I ordered a Billow a couple weeks back, and BOY HOWDY! I haven't really touched my Orchids since. The only reason I haven't gave away my orchids is due solely to sentimental reasons and the customizable aspect.
I do still use my Orchid V4's with kayfat conversions on my Mechs. Mostly for nostalgic reasons, and because they look so good..

Definitely the right move to fix the BB airflow. How about the juice channels? Keeping up with the wicks okay?

After tonight, the orchid is about to get a trial by fire. Meaning, I put it on trial, douse it in gasoline and set it on fire. I thought I was good at what I was doing until tonight. I love this thing but man was I close to just chucking it. I mean, don't get me wrong... She's good to go now. I literally made my last two coils with the last bit of wire I had. Dire straits my friends. It's a love/hate thing right now.

Got some serious metal there. :) I'm a little surprised you find the Billow so superior. Couldn't really see anything in the design that would make it a better vape than my drilled out Orchids, though Billow does breathe a bit better than stock. Billow comes with the bigger stock tank, glass and nicer machining. But really a better vape?

Sure it's not you, that is, your becoming an expert with Orchid-like builds? :D

That would be the next step. Maybe fix the originals a bit deeper, or make two new ones, Orchid style. I need another deck to mess with, but damn these things are expensive. 50$ is quite a lot IMO. I keep working and post a whole thread after im done.

Right now i must take my Subaru out for a spin, snowed last night!

Gather round children etc. Reindeers are the dumbest creatures ever to walk on earth. A whole pack of them might be just casually walking down the road, ignoring cars, trucks and the horn concert. And they might just stop and stand there, staring at you and not move for 10-20 minutes. Not present where i live, but in the north that can happen. Moose is the real issue, they only move at night and they run to the road all of a sudden. Hitting that 60mph is propably going to kill the driver and moose both.

Bit offtopic once again :D

Yeah moose are bold animals, in Anchorage they roam the city, in the roads all over.

I'm liking the look of this Kayfun Bell Cap sealth rig. One piece, small, light and unobtrusive.

View attachment 9761

Not sure yet if I like it better than this old Taifun Nano tank/cap which holds more juice.

pa041665-edit-jpg.6821

At least with the bell cap I don't have to modify anything. Though I do use my shortened chamber to get a bit more capacity out of the nano size. :)
What mod is that you are using I'm looking for something similar.

You've got me thinking of an all black mod/rba I can put together with my Orchid and this now....time to go dive into Fasttech and place an order and say in my best Mr. Burns voice....excellent.

:D Hmmm. Maybe this...

Thanks. That Kayfun Mini chimney thread is M10 x .5 as I recall. I decided not to thread mine because the top wall of the chamber is only 1mm thick, and I wanted the assembly straight and rigid to support the polycarbonate tank tube. Used epoxy instead. None have failed yet, and I have tanks going from 40mm to as tall as 70mm. Actually bought a couple of cheap Minis just for the chimneys. Using the Mini decks/bases for another project, but that's another story.

That damn top fill cap was just like 2mm tall for the stock chimney to work  I think it should work fine, if not, no biggie, not that impressed with the Orchid anyway :p
