So I strapped in what I beleive to be 2mm diameter coils (I dont actually know the measurements).

So far so good, no dry or burnt hints. I do experience some leaking from the air-holes after a bottom fill though. I will try to vape it quickly before that can happen next time, if that is even a viable solution.

Will post again if anything changes.

Thanks dre1982
I wrap around a toothpick (~1.98mm) and use enough Jap cotton to fill the coil with a light twist. The ends come down to the deck and just barely curl back towards the air holes (none in the channels). Chimney screwed all the way down... I get no dry hits what-so-ever. No leaks either.

Just wanted to give an update on the top fill cap. After playing with it a few days the best way I have found is still a bit of a pain but works well. On a V3 I am getting 2 ml per fill. I use a syringe with a 2 in blunt needle (green tip cant remember the gauge) I fill the syringe to 2 ml the open the top cap to the fill hole. I cover both air holes and the driptip with my fingers and fill with the syringe. I normally get a little juice on the top cap, but get no leaking out of the air holes. Hope this helps.

Sounds like good technique. I tried my top fill cap again the other day after it was talked about in this thread. Put it down for a few minutes after filling. The entire tank leaked out before I caught it. Bad top cap/tank o-ring. Arrrg. Still don't like the thing. :p

Glad it's working for those who like it though. :)

New on FT. Okay, just black V4s with glass tanks. But...

bo1.png bo2.png

...look at those chimneys.

As close as I can tell by zooming and scaling, they have not lengthened the chimney but shortened the chamber by ~3.5mm. That makes sense, because it offsets capacity lost by the glass tank and rings.

To my mind that makes it a better chimney. My shortened chambers (see post #2) vape just as well as the longer ones, so there is no downside to the increase in tank capacity. Too bad that for now this chimney comes only with these black models.

Shouldn't be long before they offer them in SS finish though. That would be the V4 model I would want for one-piece regular Kayfun tanks. That is, from a capacity point of view.

FWIW, my FT haul from this last weekend...yup there are some parts in there. :D
Hopefully, it all works out as intended. Pretty damn cheap though, even if it does not.

I decided I'd get the two-part chimney later on, if I need to. Wanted the other two atties more. ;)

Looks like it could be one of my carts. :)

BTW after a week with my tweaked Erlkonigin (drilled out) I'm very happy with it. Like it better than my KFLs, except that air hole leaks go directly into your 510 connector. :(

I wonder if you got the last one. Erls are not showing up today on the site. Legal action?

I finally got my V4 in and tried it with the topfill cap, and it leaked everywhere. The chimney is in the top o-ring so not sure why it is leaking. Will just have to leave it on the V3 for easy filling on the small tank.

Did you make sure to close off the air inlets at the base of the atty? I've had to top fill on my v4, holding my fingers over the airflow holes helped. Then turning it upside down after filling and burning off some of the excess seems to help.

Ugh, I'm still waiting on my taifun nano tank, v4 chimney and Kay fun tank to come in, now something else I want....

I wonder if they just took kayfun tanks and slapped them on the orchid (maybe a new chimney) because that won't address the wicking problem with high VG juice (i know not all of you have this problem) but it's a problem for some. the chimney is just too wide for the end tank.

Grind your channels a little deeper, that's what I did. No problem wicking full VG juice, I usually use 50/50 but sometimes I am behind on mixing and use my VG dripping juice and it flows just fine.

I used a thin dremel diamond grinding bit.

Nice...I look forward to trying the Erl...tired of DC builds and just want something simple. :)

I noticed the threads about them being gone, GEEK over there said that it was indeed a takedown and they are sorting through how to proceed. (that was a couple of days ago now)

I'm lucky I guess, my order is shipped and has left the sorting center in China...whew...

Damn, so, basically my order in one unit? Arrgh.

Oh well, I get moar stuff to break play with.
I might have to buy a KF just to utilize everything...eep! That would be just terrrible, eh? ;-)

Thx to everyone for helping me slog through the morass of parts and possibilities, greatly appreciated!

With a bit of luck, I'll have a spiffy Orchid v4 that I don't have to refill every 15 minutes and can actually see when it's empty. :)

Yes, they are just mixing and matching components between Kayfun and Orchid. The chimney is new however. They can't reduce the chamber OD on that. The wall thickness is already at a minimum.

You must use very high VG. I'm at 75/25 and have no issues with the clearance between the glass tank ring and the chamber. What's your ratio?

I did have an issue with a nano glass tank. Fixed it with big chamfers on the ID of the lower ring piece. Really easy to do with the die grinding stone in post #224. :)

My thought too. On top of which I just bought three V4s and would much rather have bought these. :( Would like to make that chimney my standard for regular tanks.

Oh well, next stop eBay.

Well, I only have the one v4 for now, so It's not too bad here. I wouldn't mind that long chimney though...
I hope the replacement v4 one I'm getting will suffice.

I'm liking the look of this Kayfun Bell Cap sealth rig. One piece, small, light and unobtrusive.

PC042062 edit.jpg

Not sure yet if I like it better than this old Taifun Nano tank/cap which holds more juice.

pa041665-edit-jpg.6821

At least with the bell cap I don't have to modify anything. Though I do use my shortened chamber to get a bit more capacity out of the nano size. :)

I don't think the word capacity can be used for that bell cap lol

Any other top caps work with v4?

Only 2 I have tried are the top fill and a reg Kayfun top cap. The top fill top cap leaked when I tried it, not sure if the oring is not sealing. I just moved it back to my V3 for easier filling on it. on the V4 I currently am using a standard Kayfun top cap. I get allot of funny looks with people asking how I am getting that much vapor off of a Kayfun till I point out that it is an Orchid.

First night with the orchid. About to dive into wicking. Got one for me and one for a friend for Christmas. Hoping to iron out many of the kinks tonight so I can make it easier on him when I give it to him. Wish me luck!!!

Awesome, think I'm picking up the mini kayfun top cap

Hope you don't really mean Mini. That's a whole other atty. ;)

I use Kayfun top caps most of the time, or Kayfun compatable aftermarket caps. Both style Orchid caps are awful IMO. Too heavy, bulky and ugly. The plastic V3, V4 is better because it's light, but it's still ugly and bulky. Of the Kayfuns I prefer the plastic ones.

My personal favorite top cap is the Taifun GT for its simplicity, low profile and perfect fit with 23mm OD Taifun GT tanks. The hand check pic in post #427 shows one on a Taifun GT Nano tank. You can't see it in that view, but it has a top fill screw in it, a recessed flat head. Best top fill cap I have had.

Only problem is they can't be used without modification. It's a project, and not for everybody. But the result is my favorite of all.

You are certainly a good friend! :D

If you have a cheapo FT clone the threads can be quite rough where they lead in, particularly the chamber/chimney thread. Steel wool will do wonders for that problem. It's so nice when they are buttery not scratchy, that one especially. :)

Headspin! 18mg no longer with this tank. I run 18 all day in my kayfun with no issues. One whack off of this and I was done. Drained it and switched to 6. Kind of stinks seeing as I just bought a 30 ml of 18 nic. Oh well. This thing is nothing short of AMAZING! Did notice the scratchy threads... A thread isn't supposed to come to a sharp point. I'll try the wool.

First modification happened on my Orchid last night. In my pocket. One of the only times I put my mod in my pocket and I forgot to twist the switch. I NEVER do that. Sizzle, pop. Hot, hot, hot. Melted the insulator and popped the coil. So stupid. I felt like an ass. I got very lucky. Angrily pulled it apart. Noticed the insulator wasn't completely wrecked. Just deformed at the top slightly. Trimmed the plastic and it seems to be working fine. Not a single misfire so no shorts as far as I know. Can I assume that it is OK to use for now? Ordering peek tonight just to be safe. Had to wash twice with alcohol to get that funky taste out. Lesson learned.

As long as the insulator is insulating you will be ok till you get the new one. Definitely replace though, that may leave a taste as long as it's in there.

That's why is don't use mods with a lock anymore.

I can't even describe how mad I was when I had realized what had happened. I just got this thing. Not even 24 hours old. And my first thought was, "No, if I have to go back to the tight draw of my kayfun I won't make it through the week"

Heh heh. I identify totally with this. Just can't go back after breathing through the Orchid! That's why all my Kayfuns are entering retirement, shedding their tanks, top caps and chimneys for use by Orchids. :D
