Now that I have a little break from work, I'm gonna finish Orchid "Big Gulp" here. 15+ ml and 4200 mah. All the internal work is done. Base will be shaped amoeba-like all around tight to the atty and mod. One nice feature: mod contact pin screw is accessed from the bottom of the base so contact can be kept tight tight tight. Very handy with pinless 2Six mod.

Base looks pretty shabby here, but will be nice once it's shaped.

Nice work, I love it, I NEED MOHR PICS.

That damn top fill cap was just like 2mm tall for the stock chimney to work  I think it should work fine, if not, no biggie, not that impressed with the Orchid anyway :p

Why that top cap? Is it a V1 base w/o bottom fill? I still top fill some of my big tanks. Just a little messy. Don't like that top cap anyway. Regular Kayfun or Orchid works of course. Got extras if you want one.

I still haven't found a better dual coil RTA than Orchid. Billow maybe, if you need its particular features. My drilled out Orchids have better air flow though. Don't know any that can really compete with a dripper vape.

Yeah my requirements are If you need a tool to fill it (FUCK IT!) If it doesnt have glass (FUCK IT!) i drip and vape red hots a lot...The billow looks real close, still a 1 piece chimney though then the tool fill thing LOL.

The Orchid V4 and top fill cap was a freebie, from a local shop that needed a couple 3d triple 18650 printed battery sleds, that were feeebies too. LOL!

Black on, brother! :D

PS: My daily driver is an aging black Mustang SVT Cobra. (Will have to total it to part with it.) Before that a black M3. (Did total that.) Before that a black Alfa Spider, and so on...
First off, awesome car, I love mustangs...my dad had a Red '65 and I wish it was still around!

I'm actually pondering that very orchid you linked, possibly a taifun nano cap, tank, an 18350 lancelot with an ignition bottom plate...

if I'm not mistaken it looks like you cast a bottom plate in resin? What are you planning to shape it with?

Wish I saw this when I ordered the 2 piece chimney from Avid. I haven't had an issue with my insulators but I know some others have.
Anyone looking for a PEEK insulator and doesn't want to mod fatdaddy insulators...

thanks for this, i seem to have overheated the stock insulators while building/dry firing new coils.

ordered a set of the peek insulators & a 2 piece chimney.

hopefully the new insulator(s) will keep the positive post from spinning as it wants to do now. guess it wouldn't hurt to go ahead & order a new base from ft...

You're gonna like that chimney, great machine work.

Haven't had my positive post move, the 510 positive pin is tight?

I had backed my positive pin out just 1/4~1/2 turn as added insurance to prevent a short w/the hybrid cap on my 4nine clone, i thought it was adjustable so didn't see any harm in it.

seems to have firmed up after tightening the center pin back down but, it's not rock solid like when i first got the orchid. i didn't wanna disassemble everything just yet until the new insulators get in, since it seems to be alright for the time being as it sits.

Adjustable would be nice but it isn't :(

2 out of 2 orchids are fine with my hybrid mods (hybrid & magnetic is all I use now).
For a little added extension you can use one of the micro orings on the double sided chrome screwdrivers you get with the clones. Pull the pin, slide it on and screw the pin back in on your next tank fill. That will get it to poke out a hair more and still be able to tighten it up. I haven't had to do that with the orchid but I have on kayfuns.

good to know, I'm seeing the v4 listed as adjustable all over.. http://vapoureyes.com.au/products/orchid-v4-rta-rba-clone for example, although i picked my tobeco clone up off ebay from select vape and it's not listed as adjustable there.

Sounds like a nice project. :) I use Taifun GT Nano tanks all the time. Of course you have to modify the Taifun cap considerably to make it work, or just go with a Kayfun or Orchid cap. If you're using the Ignition base, the height of the mod really comes into consideration. The Lancelot is long. I prefer pinless mods for Ignition because they are shorter. Though the Caravela I showed is not pinless but okay, just 8-10 mm taller than I would like it to be. Just saying you might take that into account so you don't end up having to use a really long drip tip to clear the button enough. Hate those.

That's polycarbonate plate. Will shape convex parts with a belt sander, concave with a drum. Then finish by hand to get the right "frosted" surface.

Planning on playing with it I have a few different sized taifuns/kayfun and orchids around. These are pets to play with and see what I come up with. I figured there would be some futzing with the cap ahead of me. As for the mod length I also have a black nemesis with a hybrid cap around I may bring into play on this. We will see how this all lined up and what way I end up going.

Ahhh, I get now that you are a tinkerer, and like your attitude @Bambua! :D

I really like the regular Taifun GT top cap. So low profile, and so easy to put a flush fill port into if you need one, like with a V1 base. Have the pieces to convert 3 or 4 of them to Orchid/Kayfun, just haven't got to them yet. o_O

Orchid + SMPL. Using the shortened chamber/chimney from post #2 to get a bit more capacity. I don't like tube mods in general but have been carrying this around for days. Whodathunkit? Can't wait for SMPL 18500 and 18350 to come out. Will get rid of my 4Nines when they do.

Also like the way the rounded bell cap lets you use a really short drip tip. Just have to put condoms out of my mind when I use it. o_O

is it possible to use the stock chimney with the bell cap or do I "have" to shorten it? also, how are the threads after grinding it? i'm just going to use a table disc/ belt sander. just take off 4mm?

Just keep it leveled and finish by hand and you should be golden.

Ugh,... Figured out why I haven't received my orchid parts yet, after a month... My copper FM mod that shipped two weeks ago from focal updated tracking, so I was curious as to why I hadn't received my parts for my orchid I ordered a month ago. I didn't upgrade my shipping option on FT for some reason... :( wondering if I should reorder or hold out at this point...

You don't have to shorten it. V1-V3 chimney will work. Like all Kayfuns top caps though, you have to open up the hole between the o-ring and drip tip to clear the excess chimney.

If you shorten, yes, 4mm. Check post #2 to see what you get. After you grind to size, a little chamfer for thread lead-in and steel wool will get it smoother than factory. :)

Love the smpl design, how is the button? Not notchy? That's the next one on my list.

Superior design IMO. So easy to adjust to battery and atty contact. No rattle. My button was near perfect right from the factory. Haven't even disassembled it yet. But I will; I can see this one becoming buttery perfect. :D

That's an existential question and beyond me. ;) My sympathies though.

It's cool sohkis is scooping it up for a tug trade. Tanks your just not my thing. The lemo is holding on by a thread in my rotation. Anyone try the billow yet? I need a true RDA feel in a tank. The big dripper had it but the liquid slowly leaked out without pumping so I had to let it go.

Just finally filled my KF tanked Orchid after like two days. Used two differently tipped 30ml bottles jammed into the fillport and didn't lose a drop.

I'm chuffed. =)

am i the only one who builds/re-wicks w/o disassembling the entire tank? maybe i just got luck whey i first assembled everything, but i can carefully unscrew the deck from the tank & chimney at the same time, leaving the chimney in the tank secured by the o-ring.

rebuild or re-wick as usual, and then carefully screw the deck into the chimney/tank all in one motion. all the remaining juice stays in the tank, & i haven't had a single issue doing it yet.

I've done it, like I use to do with my Aquas.
But, it's just as easy to syringe it out and then your juice is safe. Plus, you have something to wet your new builds with too. :)

So since I haven't got my parts yet, does the Pc kayfun tank help with blow back at all when filling? I currently have to transfer everything from glass bottles with droppers to plastic to fill. Which is a pain on top of removing the screw to fill... I suppose it'll be better once I can fit more juice in it though... I kill this v3 tank in ~30min

Since I put on the KF PMMA tank, I've had zero blowback from filling and no leaking at all. It changes the clearance somewhat.

I just hold the air holes closed, turn it over with a bit of paper towel held under the DT in case of drips, take out the fillport screw and fill.

Then, put the screw back, and before turning it over, I blow gently and steadily up the DT while releasing the airholes.

Might get a bit of sputter out of the airholes then so it's good to have that paper towel handy, but after that, it's good to go.

(as long as your wicking job is good)

How do you guys top fill this without leaks? Had to perform an emergency top fill procedure yesterday at work when my keychain screwdriver crapped out.

I use the Kayfun method, covering holes, final tightening and blowing upside down, etc. A vid is the best way to see. Google will get you there. I've never got it down enough to prevent a little leaking, just to prevent losing a lot.

Yeah, i figured if there were a simpler method. I got a few drops from the airholes but nothing major. Maybe i'll buy a better screwdriver :D

Yeah, i just asked to see if there is a way with zero leaking. What were to happen if i drilled a fill port at the top cap? Hmm... Maybe with a small plug so no tools would be needed.
