Yeah, i think most people have moved past stuffing the channels by now. The first clones and the authentic had a stupid chimney/top cap sealing system that didn't seal very well and people were choking off the juice to keep it from leaking. Now that v2 and up has the oring in the top cap (like a kayfun) it seals and you can rely on the vacuum to seal it. I fixed my V1 with a FT top fill cap that had the oring in the top cap.

No, not a deal breaker, everyone has been running them with 1 piece chimneys for months now but that is a nice feature that they all should have imo.

just got my peek insulators & 2-piece chimney in from avid vaper yesterday!

2-piece chimney is definitely nice, think i'll get everything pulled apart tonight to get the insulators installed.

i also just pulled the trigger on a v6 w/glass tank & threaded chimney, lol

what i don't understand is why make a two piece chimney non threaded and a threaded one piece. why not just make them together. i guess they want people to buy both and they make double the profit thinking people will by both.

Also, I liked the raised edge around the air channels on that, should help some of that initial leaking when you fill them sometimes.

I was so excited about that threaded chimney and was totally gonna make yet another Orchid-focused fasttech order just so I could grab that Chimney and top cap and put my own tanks on it...

Then I realized that the top cap itself is probably not threaded for tank sections...

New FT Orchid V6 series: Progress and Confusion

Unlike the so-called V5, which was a bullshit designation wherever it popped up, the FT V6 is showing some real progress. Unfortunately, the FT version designation as such is totally schizophrenic.

The model below really stands out among the three listed today. It obviously takes its cues from Billow, which took its cues from Orchid, and so on. All's fair in the post-clone world of Orchid variation. Nobody is waiting for Aethertech anymore, though they too are also coming out with a new model.

The new developments in the model below:
  • Dedicated one-piece glass tank (not Kayfun recycled).
  • Threadless base and top cap with contoured seal.
  • AFC via grub screws on the underside of the base.
  • Air inlet tubes to raise the vents off the deck.
  • Threaded chimney to hold it all together.

***********************************************************************************************************************

The model below stands out for entirely different reasons. There is no AFC and the base/top cap/tank retains standard threading.

The new developments in the model below:
  • Two-piece chimney.
  • Air inlet tubes to raise the vents off the deck.
  • One-piece 22mm dia. threaded SS tank included.
Some of you will value the two-piece chimney above all else, others the one-piece SS tank. The chimney has been available elsewhere, but the one-piece threaded SS tank is a first both for Orchid and Kayfun. I expect the introduction of these parts means they will be available a la carte soon on FT. :)

This third model below is simply MISNAMED. It's just a V4 PMMA with a one-piece Kayfun tank. Not worth taking about. :p

Maybe. But more likely for me they will be yanked out post haste. :D I doubt I will settle for compromised air flow, even at the cost of a little initial messiness. I always pulled those tubes out of Taifun. ;)

Orchid is the first RTA I have never drilled out the air holes on. But this morning I woke up thinking I wanted to see what Orchid would be like with it's airflow maxed out. So I took a spare V1 base and drilled out the air holes on the deck as much as possible without getting into trouble with the insulator or threads. I then drilled out the side vents to the same size. The result was a finished hole size of 2.8mm for all (using a 7/64" carbide bit). This adds up to a total vent area of 12.30 square mm. By comparison, the area of the chimney ID is 12.56 square mm. So it is right at the maximum airflow possible with the stock chimneys.

View attachment 8568 View attachment 8569

After doing a .5 ohm build and luxuriating in the easiest draw I have ever had with an RTA (mmm...oooh...aaah! :)) I'm now wondered whether I have finally reached the point of diminishing returns from open air flow. To get an idea what the draw is like, just remove a stock chimney and inhale through it. That's it exactly. It's fantastically open. But is it also finally plenty or even a bit more than I need? Gonna take it out tonight alongside a stock tank and see how I feel after some time with the two.

Embarrassed that it took me this long to do this mod and I'm kicking myself now for lagging.
Opening up the holes really unleashed this atty, dropped resistance from high .4's to low .4's and vape is not hot so I think I'm going to drop another wrap and get down into high .3 resistance. Should be even more cloudy in my car now :D

Yeah, that threadless glass model should have its own version designation. o_O

Gonna be issues bottom filling this one. Won't be difficult to overcome with a razor blade though.

The scatterbrained thinking at FT notwithstanding, A VERY GOOD DAY IN ORCHIDLAND! :D
Couldn't agree more.

I may be disappointed about the threaded chimney being incompatible with all other orchids (which sorta flies in the face of what I see as the main strength of the Orchid family) but I am unambiguously excited to see the Orchid cloning community continuing to innovate and riff upon the basic Orchid theme.

I know some are tired of hearing the Orchid being referred to as a "Kayfun killer" and I also absolutely reject that characterization. They are just not meant to serve the same needs, and I am always happier with both in my kit. But I DO think that a different comparison to the Kayfun is valid. Specifically, I think the Orchid is fast becoming the "Kayfun of the clone cloud community" with its rapid uptake by users and even more rapid alteration and accessorizing by manufacturers. That's just a flatout win for vapers of all stripes, and especially for we cloudy clone enthusiasts.

So yes, today is a very good day for the Kloudy Kayfun :)

Very well said, Doc.

Billow was tugging the Orchid concept back toward the proprietary and pricey. I'm delighted to see that retrograde movement thwarted today.

With the threadless model, tubes in other materials will be a cinch. I've got polycarbonate tube stock ready to go. (And will probably prefer it given the rate I seem to break glass tanks.) The appearance of threadless tanks is much more appealing to me. Now, if they would only offer some smaller and lighter threadless top caps. I hate the stock look and feel, but will not have Kayfun to revert to. :(

I ordered both of the new V6. One for tank cracking juices and the other for taking to work with the S.S. full tank.
This makes five Orchids for me, 3 V4's and 2 V6's.
I am not the type of person who goes crazy over a tank. But these Orchids are top notch.

Used 24g wrapped 8 times around a 2.5mm rod. That got it down to .32 and produces tons of vape but lost some flavor, it's not gone, it's just less. Still not too hot with the opened up air flow if your more into chucking clouds than mouth watering flavor... I'm kind of in between the two.

I'm in between gauges, I want to get it into the high .3's and 26g isn't enough wraps with a coil that's too narrow but more than 8 wraps on 24g is too wide... so got some 25g on order. I think ~ 0.4 is going to be a perfect blend of cloud and flavor :D Running 60% vg joose and it is wicking just fine, next batch will be 70% vg.

just had to retest to be sure, but my favorite orchid right now is in fact at 0.4ohm

i've got my 4 (soon to be 7) orchid v3-v4s all between 0.3 and 0.9, and the 0.4 is, oddly enough, some sort of sweet spot, in my experience.

it's not the device itself, either. right now my 0.4 is my v3, but each of my orchids has been built around 0.4 at some point, and they always seem to be my favorite. i don't think i ever consciously noticed that until i read your post.

my problem is that I basically never pay attention when i'm building and so just eyeball my coils and see how they come out. well my real problem is that i have the memory of a goldfish, and so I've been conditioned not to pay attention because why bother, i'm just going to forget it immediately anyway...

anyway, you may have motivated me to tear down my underperforming 0.9ohm v4 and attempt to actually build it to 0.4 on purpose. i mean, probably not, cuz lazy, but maybe.

thanks for sharing anyway :)

Glad you said one piece threaded chimney is a first for the Kayfun.. I have one here that I got from Richard Ng in Malaysia a while back.. Glass tank with stainless, screw on, ends, threaded 2-piece chimney..

Depends on which model. The newest V6s shown near the top of this page are FT only so far. The glass one is closest to Billow, if that's what appeals to you most. They should trickle out to other sources pretty soon. However, you can get V2, V3, V4s all over the place. I check eBay a lot. Often good prices and fast delivery. Maybe whet your appetite with a cheapy to begin.

How does fast tech handle it when you cancel your order? They extended the shipping time so I wanna get something else.

Store credit (what they call "gift certificate") is immediate. Just did one yesterday. Refund to card or PayPal takes a few days. I've had no problem with cancellations.

Great I just want to order something else So that's perfect. My item was promised to ship yesterday but went to restocking.. Should I wait? Does it only take a few days usually?

Hard to tell. Sometimes right away, sometimes not. I just got impatient with my cancellation yesterday. Generally though, I don't order anything that's not in stock. Don't know what to tell you. Depends on your mood. ;)

I should say though that at my location I get stock items in 7-10 days via USPS ePacket. That's pretty quick for them.

Yeah I did, i should of ordered some 28mm pads from Fatdaddy. :( Im still holding out on the Expromizer coming out with a dual coil soon, since it is the perfect RBA :p

I thought you were joking about Expromizer. :p Looks like Kayfun to me. But dual coil...maaaaaaaayyyyybbbbbeeeeeeeee.

BUT, the Expromizer has the chimney tube built in to top cap, so can service deck without draining, and fill with out leaning sideways getting paper towels, clicking heels 2 times, blowing out holes, having the perfect wick. etc, etc.. Fill it and forget it, I must say it looks like a turd on all my devices but it performs excellent past 4 months. It's a cross between a Taifun and Kayfun, with more airflow when you remove the ring. It was a lost RBA here in USA didn't get any love.

Hey I bought a freak of nature the other day for some good ole modding and frustration. Gonna have to run the hog on my B box, dual 26650 gigantic.

I have some issues with late night FT purchases :(

You may have issues (Ares) AND be onto something. I take your point on Expromizer. That was the only feature I liked about Taifun GS. With that Ares and Expro, I get better now the style you're after. ;)

LOL, how bad is that Ares? What are the nightmare issues with it so I can map out my plan of attack early.

Just get to the gym and build up your vaping arm. Other than that, fiddly deck for dual coil, uncertain AFC?
Excellent, the dual26650 box needed some extra weight, so (CHECK) Dual coils under single screws (Check) just like the new Kangertech subohm RBA deck. Air flow, Have drill bits ready :)

I'm re-posting this because some of you asked:

I ordered a few extra of these units for spare parts and I won't be needing them after all. They're heading to eBay, but any of y'all can get one directly from me if you like. New and complete. Will throw in an extra one-piece Kayfun tank. $12 to PayPal including First Class shipping. Just PM me.
