Cool. I'll try a larger gauge next time. Thanks Ray.
I'm gonna try to throw a little color on this one, but the frame cores and ribbon are kanthal.

This one I just did freehand keeping the same angle and speed as I wound the core wire. It came out pretty evenly spaced. I think, like you said, that if I had used 36g for the stagger binding that it would have been better - based on the spacing of the initial Clapton.

So I tried my hand at the staple Staggered fused clapton (seems like you guys are talking about it too) and encountered the same issue with skipping gaps. I didn't have problems in the past with 34g so I guess that really is it.

I wanted to use 36g to space then 38g Wrap to fuse but I got lazy so it isn't as nice as I'd want it to be. 2x28gka1/6x.4ka1/36gn80 at .12

Edit: and is it just me or do fraliens vape better than these guys?

Edit 2: so I felt my frames were too big. Tried again. Still shitty. I hate staggered coils.

Same here. But they tend to make good coilporn, so I figured I might as well get in the game.
Exactly. I really just need to get me another atomizer. I only have one so I get stuck with the one that I make. Maybe another goon or some of the local rdas we have here.

Get a pair of those cheap dollar store gloves. It will save you the blisters, etc from braiding.
Lol Not that type of swelling...Im having a flare up and my hands are the size of balloons bro...Even typing and holding a mod tightly is difficult right now
Much like this below:

Try #2
This one came out like crap. Gotta mess with the gauges and see what I can come up with.

I freehanded the initial Clapton. Looks like I need to be a little more evenly spaced than this.

Never again. This thing took WAY too long to wrap. I'm gonna have to take off one wrap just to get it to fit into an atty.

Looks good Chef! Fusing the staggered builds is time consuming but while your doing it your almost in a Zen Like State...I actually enjoy it, it takes your mind off other things that may be bothering you and the feeling of accomplishment is there once your finished.

Looks like crap, but thanks.
We are all over skeptical of our builds, One skip isnt a real problem, you could always use some sharp cutters and remove the wrap on the 2 center wraps...thats how some people compensate their wrap issues and it adds to the overall look

When you said you wrapped them slowly, like fiskars drill slow?

Yes, but look at the spacing of the Clapton frames. It's all over the place in varying widths.
I'll get it, but I don't think I'll be doing this particular build again anytime soon. Way too time consuming.

Not sure if it will help but what I do to space mine is cut maybe an 2 or 3 inches of the gauge that I want to use as a space. I so a couple of free spacing, put that in between the gaps like the loop then tug a bit down just to make sure they're not slanted. I then pin them down using a clothes pin. I fairly get more consistent spacing

So the experience from the ssfc was a bit below what I expected so I rebuilt. I love these guys.

Do you have any hints/techniques for coiling corrugated ribbon wire?
My first attempt came out, um... Let's just say it was less than acceptable.

The biggest problem for Corrugated Ribbon is the geat teeth size need to be small, if your crimping is long and wide then it will warp and fold when wrapping it. 2nd, you want a thin ribbon like .3 and .4 for Corrugated builds, .5+ will warp from its tension strength. You want it tight enough so it doesnt have room to move at all under pressure but not so tight that you deform the design..

I like to use .3 for Corrugated build and I wrap them like I do the SSFC's, I pull very hard and turn them inwards slightly while pulling it around the bit. Its hard to explain but I hold the very end of the length and use my thumb and index finger to turn the endinwards towards the bit and I pull downwards on the length, forcing it around the bit....

I hope that somewhat makes any sense...

I started the DIY juice making because of restrictions and sale prices here in the UK (orig from Texas) after a few months I needed to go back to an RDA instead of my tank for... testing purposes. So, I bought a build kit, and went to work. My idea came from my old vape shop in Texas where my guy would build my coils for me then leave it to me to wick. He gradually built me up to clapton coils and so on and I grew to love them. Here where I am now, you buy tanks and screw in coils or you build yourself. So.. I tried it out. Since my dripper had the space I tried out a 10 coil wrap just for fun. it is kanthal twisted clapton 28/32, I am vaping it with the Scottish Roll wicking method and I am not sure I did it right (the coils not the wick). I am used to 0.3 - 0.4 ohms and around 3.86 - 4.24 volts when hitting it at 90-100 watts. This 10 roll is sucking down at 0.89 ohms and 8.6 volts (!!!!) at 100 watts (is that normal??) anyway, twisted clapton was difficult to get tight coils with, but I think I did pretty well for my first ever attempt. It is beast with clouds and the flavor is awesome! I'll probably stick to a 6 coil wrap in the future though. Any advice or criticism is appreciated. (sorry the pics are blurry.. new phone and Im still working out all the bells and whistles on the camera... or it just sucks)IMG_20160905_143445.jpg IMG_20160905_143136.jpg

That's the only bit that matters. How it gets to that point isn't really that important, a beast is a beast :D With longer coils its further from the outside of the coil to the middle for wicking so personally I prefer to keep them in the 5-7 wraps range and as big a i.d. of coil that will fit in the deck so that the coils will stay fed even if I chain vape.

I use a 4mm wrap on the jig. works nice. I do feel 6 would give me a better experience. Less ramp up at least. HA!

Nothing special, but I decided to do a series build tonight, as I haven't done one in a while. It hits like a freight train in the Kennedy clone on the series box that @Sonar505 graciously reworked for me from its previous life as a parallel box.
Check out his thread HERE for more info on his awesome work.

Ive been insanely busy the last few days...on top of stocking avs again I had to make a braid for the CoilWars comp....Ive only braided 3 times before this in my entire life and I have sausage dumb fingers....and tendinitis. My hands decided to flare up just before I had to to make the braid so its not as good as it could have been since I kept dropping the braid loops because I could barely feel the wire on my fingers. It took my almost 8 hours in total to make enough and have the least amount of flaws in it as whats shown below..Im still not a fan of making braids and I give props to anyone that makes them!!!

This was my entry (Next round is stovetops):
Im not sure what this braid is called, Double Stack "Some Kind of Braid"

Today I had some time to build for fun, which I love...Im not really a fan of deadlines and being told what to make and this is the time I feel more creative and have better outcomes.

Its a bit low at .08 but in other RDA's you could fit 5 wraps and get it up to .1. CottonCandy Cotton just sent me a sample of their cotton to try, I have that Framed Staple wicked but I think Im going to take it out and wash it then try for more colors....then wick it again :D

I used Temco Ribbon, for some reason its like a matte finish, where as my other Ribbon is shiny..

I haven't bought from Temco in a while. I didn't even know they had ribbon. If I try it, I'll use N80 ribbon for the binding so I can get some color on it. Maybe use 10x0.3mm cores. But now that I have the HΩ Wrecker I can build pretty low - safely.

You can actually get some great color with Kanthal...Ive been getting more color with Kanthal and KJanthal D then N80 when I try...It just takes alot of heat and for longer durations. I start pulsing at 100w for 1-3 seconds (only start counting when its glowing bright), then I jump to 120w and repeat, then repeat up to 150w.
Color order is the reverse of N80 almost..blue first, then brown/orange, red, purple, odd greenish color, yellow, gold, then back to silver/grey.
I did a clip on Instagram so more people can see this.
Link for Clip

This is all Kanthal but its darker out and I didnt pulse over 120w for it...

As much fun as it can be to build coil porn, sometimes I just like to build for substance. So I tried a double fused Clapton.
2x26K cores, with a double wrapping of 34N outer.

The quality of the vape is spectacular, but it leaves a bit to be desired in the ramp up. It's a keeper though, and next time I make one it'll be with SS316L and using higher gauge wire.

SS316L version, 28/38 gauges
Not quite as robust, but a quicker ramp up

I wanted to use these on a parallel mech, but there just wasn't enough voltage to push them.
These are on the Snow Wolf at 125W/5.59V

I've done something similar with dual 28g N80 cores and double wrapped in .4 N80 ribbon. It also had a pronounced ramp up.

So I tried another version of a double fused Clapton - this time, I used 2 Claptons and fused them. All SS316L because I wanted to try something in TC for the new Dotboxes. I missed a few spaces, but it's not a showpiece. I just wanna vape it. I'll try it later on today after I get done with my other stuff I gotta do today.
