The summer heat hit 2 months early this year, normally it is pretty nice, and quite wet until after the 4th of July. The heat hit in May and it has been quite dry, we are in drought conditions. Normally I don't worry too much about the 4th because it is so wet leading up to it that you couldn't start a fire with Napalm, but this year I am worried, everyone here shoots off fireworks and they don't have sense enough to not do it when things are dry.

Living in Southern California for the first 50 years of my life I know full well what happens when you shoot off fireworks with dry brush. 18 years of living in rainforest condidions hasn't managed to quell my fear of fireworks, the 4th is my least favorite holiday after so many years of staying home with water hose in hand ready to fight fire.

We've had a few small showers the last few days, but not nearly enough to prepare for the 4th, everything is still pretty dry and it's not been enough to make things green again.

For the past week I've been thinking that the sun is much hotter and stronger than it was when I was a kid. I slather on the sunscreen but feel like my skin is roasting anyway. Never used to be like this.
I'm telling you, nekkid mowing=danger.

I totally agree with you. I would lay out using baby oil for 4+ hours and never get as red as I do now (minus the baby oil and the nekkidness) for just 1 hour in the sun. We sure have depleted that ozone!

I'm surprised they don't start putting warnings on tv or on the radio for this concern. We hear it here all the time when there are particularly dry summers. If they are going to start doing that, they should start soon, right?

Thanks for the condolences, Claudia. :inlove:

i'd do uni different if i did it again

i finished with honours, but was a snob

turns out uni is all about building networks, so instead of investing time on assignments, use it helping visiting lecturers move, having coffee with professors, and getting drunk with classmates. It is better career wise that way

i just want to eat junk food and huddle with doonas

pretty sure it is never, ever going to get warm again, ever

Just remember, Doggie that in about 2 months, it will get warmer and all of us will be wishing we could switch places with you. Snuggle with that doona all you want......but, I'm pretty sure you'll get your wish for warmer weather. ;-)

Good morning, snobby knucks! LOL I sort of like that.

I'm happy just where I am.......Maybe because I am in school everyday.....lol Not sure why, as many have said I'd make a good administrator, but I have no desire to move up the education ladder. Put me in the grit of it and let me complain about those higher up.......lol

Well we did get some decent rain yesterday, enough to start the grass growing and turning green, amazing how fast it does that here, and we have a forecast for rain Sunday and the 4th so things may be ok. Fireworks are big business here with stands up all along the roadsides, big stands, so they rarely do anything to stop all of that tax money coming in.

Not too bad. Tastes like you dipped your toast in soy sauce.
Definitely expected it to be kind of gross, but I liked it.

Thanks Doggie

Now see, I didn't get any pre arrival instructions. So, I wouldn't have known about the butter and was thinking "toast" in Australia was actually lemon pound cake or something.

I feel much more prepared now.

Morning boof heads. Freezing my ass off, 55 feels a lot colder when it's been in the 90s during the day

Should be around more today, but can't promise to be fully awake or clever
Morning Always!
When do you leave for New Orleans?
Get plenty of pics of yourself earning beads.

Maybe hawk will pop in today and take up the clever slack.
He's good for that.
No pressure Hawk. Just be funny!

55 is cold
It is cold, and I'm good at whining about cold

Saturday afternoon! I'm so excited. Almost completely packed, just have some laundry to do first. I'm more excited about getting drinks to go from the bar than beads but I'll share a few pics I promise haha

And yes hawkie needs to check in. So does peng and I feel like we are missing quite a few others.

Yeah, those drinks to go had me wagging my pecker at the people throwing beads from the balcony of a hotel.

I had so many beads, they were weighing me down.

Pretty sure they were sympathy beads though.

Rough night. Good memory though.
