Of course I would.

I am, above all, a gentleman. I'm a little shocked you would even ask. She's also sort of cute. ;)

As far as it being a broken wire,Its doubtfull thats the case though, She told me it didn't pass the smell test. It smells like she let the smoke out, and as we all know, smoke makes electrical things work, and they stop working if you let it out. Like Freon in air conditioners. Or R12. Or U-234 or whatever that stuff is they import from the Pole to make them work...........
Sometimes I "let the smoke out" and I seem to be working still.

I'm thrilled that you understand the smoke theory of electricity! It truly explains all you need to know about this mystical force.

Sooo, am I right in understanding that you can do the eVic VTC update on the Wismec Presa 75w? Am I getting this right?

Cheers,
Brewbear

Presa has its own update, the eVic update while the same in general, will not work on the Presa. The Presa has not caught up to the eVic yet.

Here's a great deal if you are looking for the DNA200 version. It's $113.29 shipped from the USA. Here's the link.

Cheers,
Steve
Yep your deal is better. After adding two 2packs of yellow LG batteries and take 5% off its 137.75 bucks. Do you get a warranty with that?

With DNA200 I don't concern myself that much with warranties since I know Evolv will stand behind it's chip for 1 year. As for Joyetech/Wismec on the other hand, I've heard they don't really answer your inquiries when people have problems. From what I've read, I'm not at all impressed with their customer service (just from what others have said when they have had problems). The company that is selling it I believe has a 14 or 30 day replacement if you get a bad unit.

Edit I have had 6 new batteries sitting in my vape closet for a couple of months collecting dust just begging to be used so I don't need batteries. I wasn't telling you to use the deal I found (I was responding to EJ's post, I thought he was looking for at a less expensive price), If you're happy with the deal you found, that's all that really matters.

Preliminary autopsy findings are in.

External examination answered the obvious question as to why an employee of a vape shop simply did not return the RX for warranty. The RX was black, and turquoise in color. Wismec does not make a black, and turquoise RX. It was in fact evident that a voided warranty was present, as a result of cosmetic part swaperoo, to use the technical term.

Although warranty voiding might sometimes be a reliable indicator of death by gross negligence, the proceedure of swapping faceplates is a simple one, already mentioned here several times, and although possible, not at this stage a likely cause.

Turning the RX face down, I proceeded to expose the battery bay. Red flag!

battbay-jpg.37933

Somebody, incorrectly marked battery polarity.

Proceeding to the internal examination, screws were removed, wires postions were recorded then severed and the PCB exposed. Examination of all wires revealed no defect, and displayed continuity when tested. Solder connections were no work of art, but proved secure, and conductive.

Inspection with 10X magnification on the anterior/display side of the board revealed no obvious anomalies.

A distinct odor of burntyness was however radiating from the board. The screws were removed and the board was excised from the body cavity.

Upon commencing inspection of the posteriour aspect of the board with 10X magnification, anonamalies were detected.

Pictured is the failed component under "D4"

This is not a large component. Somewhat small actually. OK, its fucking tiny! How tiny you ask?

CM160110-19094604.jpg

A pinhead gives some idea of scale. It was so incinerated, I could not find any numbers on it.

Conclusion, preliminary findings indicate cause of death catastrophic component failure dur to incorrect battery installation. Manner of death is found to be negligent modicide.

Apparently, Wismecs idea of "reverse polarity protection" is a diode, which throws itself on its own sword to prevent battery Armaggedon. Your mod however will likely not survive. Unknown is how long the batts were in the mod before the smoke was let out, but the take away here is DO NOT THINK YOUR MOD WILL SURVIVE REVERSE POLARITY INCIDENTS for any length of time. So, lets be carefull out there, unless you want your mod to end up on a table like this one has. RIP RX.

Wow, that board looks like cheap junk. No wonder it failed...

I also have a DNA200 in the morgue, awating its turn. The pics from my tablet don't make either of them look pretty at that magnification. When the diode let loose, it redistributed itself over a fairly wide area. relatively.

I'm not saying Evolv boards are that great, either. I looked at a ProVape board at 100 and 200 power at work and it is a very clean design and well made...

So, why did you buy a RX200, or do you just randomly post in device specific threads about ProVape? lol

If I observe correct polarity, the RX should last as long as my other mods, it certainly is not over-engineered, and I am not an electrical engineer, or even technician, but the RX works very well, and if ProVape has a mod that has TC on all wires, 3 battery capacity, upgradeable firmware and a cost of $60 or less where I live, I'll check it out.

I'm thinking that they don't though. I don't think aerospace or medical grade design and components are essential for a decent, useable, and affordible mod. COTS components are sufficient.

Where I live you can't even buy a decent mech for what I paid for the RX. Mine has suffered several drops onto different surfaces, 2 of which were severe enough, I wouldn't have blamed the mod if it had resigned.

Of the TC mods I own the RX works well enough, that I actually use TC. Since I have only vaped Stainless for the past long while, there still are not too many mods out that support SS. Other than the DNA, the RX does it better than the others I have, most being 2-3X the price. I bought the RX with low expectations primarily as a VW mod, because I hate changing batts when I am out and working,. The RX doing TC on SS as well as it has, was an unexpected bonus.

Nice work on the autopsy!
I'll just say I've dropped mine once hard enough I thought it was doomed for sure but the RX is a tough bastard

The thread was in the New Post section. No, I'd never buy such junk; wouldn't take one if it were free. The difference in PCBs is quite telling. The Rueleaux isn't a $40 mod; it shouldn't have a $3 PCB...

How so? I understand some are limited in their abilities and should stick to memes and cat threads...
So you came to a thread about a mod that most in said thread are happy with and enjoy (myself included), shit on it, and expected everyone to be nice to you?

Either you're intellectually challenged or you're trolling. I suspect the latter.

Someone posted a pic of the $3 board. I commented about it. The kids who spent their allowance on said crappy mod got upset...

The mod was used incorrectly. That's why the chip fried. That doesn't make it a shitty mod. Three hundred dollar mech mods can blow up if used incorrectly, too. Does that make them shitty? Not at all.

I make sure to put my batts in correctly and the RX works really great.

Sounds more like you're upset that you've spent more of your allowance for mods that do the same thing as our inexpensive one. I believe that's called "butt hurt."

What I spend on mods makes no difference. They are all inexpensive, as far as I am concerned. I happen to work in the PCB field. The PCB posted is one of the $3 China specials. It's no wonder it failed... Pretty sure only teen boys use the tern butt hurt...

Nothing personal, you have been very helpfull, esp. about the alpaca wool wick.

I'm guessing you have never used, or seen an RX in person.

All posts are in the new post section, and to prevent confusion, they have titles. I personally cannot believe that posting in a 29 page thread full of 90% or more RX200 users, calling their favorite mod junk seems like the right thing to do.

I'll give you the benefit of doubt that you read all 28 pages before posting, pages filled with mostly favorable opinions of this mod.

Or, perhaps the RX really IS a piece of crap, and we are all suffering a shared delusion. One sec.........

Nope. Not a delusion, just had 2 4 second vapes on TC SS that were flawless, and my monitor is now harder to see. It works just fine! :)

You don't work for ProVape by any chance do you?

Again, giving you all possible benefit of doubt, that is that you are a genius mad monk who designs regulated TC mods in his sleep, and writes the schematics down on paper when he wakes up, and that your superpowers allow you with out owning or even using an RX to say with conviction they will only last 6 months, Please understand, in 6 months, I for one would buy another, and it would still be good value for the dollar.

I'm certain that there will be more high capacity TC mods coming out in the future, many being superiour to the RX. But I would never have considered a TC mod if it weren't for the RX. The Ones I had did not justify the extra expense, and if or when I do buy another TC mod, it will owe a great deal of the buying descion on my part to the RX.

The AK-47 is a stamped metal monstrosity of a weapon. It is inhearently nowhere near as accurate, or flexible, or anywhere near as sexy as an HK G3. It has proved however its value by putting more firepower into more hands than any automatic rifle on earth. The RX is the AK of regulated mods at this time. There may be better mods made, but THIS mod has delivered everything it has promised, except for "reverse polarity protection" and endeared its self to its users.

Can you respect that?

PCBs are the weak point in most mods. I won't get into the technical details as to why, but looking at the pic of the board posted, the mod wasn't built to last. I can understand if it were a $40 mod, but a $150 mod shouldn't have a $3 board...

The RX200 a $40 mod. The DNA200 version is $150. You're confusing the Reuleaux RX200 (uses a Joyetech chip) with the Reuleaux DNA200 (used Evolv's DNA200).

That's more like it then...

What do you suggest I replace the blown diode with?

And poof!!! he was gone. Faster than an exploding diode!

Never a maniacial mad monk of microchip mayhem around when you need one.

Oh well, at least he made us appreciate the Reuleaux DNA200 trolls more..... lol

Maybe he just needed a Mars bar.
