Tobacco pipe tool

I still have my class ring. 1975 David Douglas High School. I almost didn't get it. Back then, it was over $70.00 (it's real gold), and my mom almost nixed the whole deal. :)

And yeah, those rolling towel things. They were always WET and had spots of grease and "whatever" on them. But that was all there was, so that's what you had to use.

The pipe tool stumped me. I didn't know anyone that had one, and until today I had never even seen one. Nifty looking little gadget, though!

The Incredible Mr. Limpet? I never watched it. I've never been a Don Knotts fan for some reason. I didn't even like him when I was a kid, I don't know why. I guess most people like him, though. :)

The Hershey's syrup, though, I make that when I need some. 1/2 cup cocoa (sifted), 1 cup water, 1-1/2 cups sugar. I sift the cocoa into the sugar, then whisk it into the water. Heat while stirring until it boils, boil for exactly 3 minutes (set a timer), remove from heat and cool. When cool, add a splash of vanilla and a pinch of salt. Makes enough to almost fill a pint canning jar, and it's every bit as good as the old stuff used to be. :)

I can't have sugar much anymore because it gives me the itsies, but when I need some chocolate, it's a quick fix.

I never knew this existed, but long before Sony invented the Walkman, there was a Swiss company that made a pocket sized device for playing music, I present to you the Mikiphone, a wind up portable phonograph designed to play 10" 78RPM records, manufactured briefly in the 1920's. Who knew?

My boyfriend's mom's 1965 Coronet had a push button shift. That was the weirdest thing!

Who remembers the little cartons of milk at school lunch

Ours was just plain milk, too, not chocolate. It cost a penny.

Who remembers fire picks

My friend and I had a thriving business in the 8th grade, selling cinnamon toothpicks. We got a box of toothpicks for a few cents, then a bottle of hot cinnamon flavoring. We poured some of the flavoring in a saucer and rolled a bunch of toothpicks around in it to soak up the flavor, then we sold them at school for a nickel apiece! Man, we were rolling in nickels! LOL!

Who remembers usin this in grade school

I can still remember the smell. That and the paste that came in the squat little plastic bottles with the lid and attached brush. Smelled like peppermint. (The paste, not the mucilage.)

Who remembers gettin a sandwich in a wax paper bag at school lunch?

We didn't have waxed paper bags, just a roll of waxed paper, but my dad did the wrapping, and he was an expert at folding and tucking. I don't think I ever had a stale sandwich for lunch. Sometimes it was hard to get the waxed paper unfolded! LOL! He was so good at that.

555-1212 (ring... ring...) "At the tone, Pacific Standard time will be... seven-ten, and 10 seconds." Beep!

And the smell of it. :) Can't find these balls anymore. I guess it's "too dangerous" to throw a big inflated rubber ball at someone else.

With very few exceptions, this thread contains just about everything I remember from my childhood. I love tripping down Memory Lane and seeing and remembering all these things again. :)
