I carried last night, literally. Got called to sub for what was listed as "vacancy" at Raven--- High School. Well, I was heading there to arrive about 2:30 ish instead of 3. The scheduling was for 3 to 11.

While heading in my phone erupted from text messages by a co-working substitute. You could have thought the End of Days had come. Oh it was so terrible, he was there alone. Everyone in the Rat Pack had called off.

He said the least they could have done was got another substitute. I replied back. "They got a substitute. Me."

Got there. After a spell I was able to wrangle my Keebler Elf Boy scout looking principles in an office. "Gents, want me playing three people tonight?"

Luke the principle, "No Ben, you're just being Roy tonight. You know his stuff right?"

"Yep, but you got a pup trying to do two." Trevor looked at me with a grin. He's the vice principle.

"Ben, just do Roy. You got an easy play tonight," he said. I looked back to Luke. Luke was grinning.

"Huh, well okay ... I guess." I said.

Luke then asked sincerely, "Ben, how are you? No, not work but you."

Explained I put in a request with gp to try a new medicine again but legal now. Him and Trevor both thought that good. "I might be able to relax," I said.

Luke, "Well old dog, that might just be what you need. If you get a script for it, nothing we can do as an employer by law. Yeah, good on you Ben. Have a good one tonight."

So, ha ha, why yes, yes I did play two people last night. I did 80% of Roy's stuff. Then had to wait until extracurricular people cleared away from the rest.

While waiting I went on and did Tom's downstairs hall. Granted I probably missed a bit. Still the majority of it got done. The other guy was upstairs, he finally finished off up there come and finished what I left downstairs.

I'm also taking that on face value too. He was there to do like I was. Have to "trust" he did. And thinking on it now, it might be a case of "I thought you did" on both our parts. *chuckles* Oh well, we both tried staying on course.

Then, we both hit the last 10% of Roy's. I had gone on over and got part as the stragglers were moving out gradually. The other sub was flabbergasted that I had actually gotten as much as I had done.

Went to lunch around 5:30, decided we'd take an hour. Felt an hour behind and then stopped during lunch and took stock. Figured out we were an hour ahead. Told my wife, we were so far ahead we were going backwards.

-- My edits are not due to being on anything. I'm simply tired both mentally and physically. Yes, I got sleep last night. Consider though a 50 yr old trying to still move like 17, a trained 17 that works three different spots. Last night I worked opposing a 25 yr old. I did twice what he did. Does it matter though? No, not really other than those planning know I work.

Also think the h key on my keyboard is a bit wonk. *chuckles*

That was a stiff cocktail if you used tobacco sauce on the heavy side. LOL

Don't we all just LOVE auto-correct? Nearly got my youngest daughter in trouble once with a text that she sent to her boss, which was filled in by auto-correct and came off sounding quite suggestive. I don't remember exactly what it was, but his response was, "WHAT?" lol She said she could have just crawled under her desk and stayed there for the rest of the day.

@MyMagicMist don't you remember when you were 12-ish through 20-ish, working with the older folks in the garden, or on a yard cleanup project, or whatever, and they could work circles around us? Work ethic I think is what makes the difference, age is only an adjunct to motivation. Plus, when there's no one else to do the work, and it needs to get done, then we just have to put it in gear and move.

Coming up my kids wouldn't hit a lick at a black snake, but somehow all of them turned into hard and smart workers, self-motivated and very good with the details. I'm so damn proud of them for that. Don't sell yourself short.

Autocorrect can be hilarious. But my biggest mess up was sending an email Titled Daily Shift Report to upper management but Shift was missing the “f”. I received a call within seconds of sending it and heard uproarious laughter followed with strained talking telling me to look at the Subject of the email I just sent. I could have died! I obviously sent a follow on email apologizing for my inadvertent mistake. They told me that what made it so hilarious was knowing I was very professional and didn’t use profanity. Well, at least they got a good laugh out of it. I did too after the embarrassment subsided.

Oh. I do indeed. Can recall how Pawpaw John used to put all us grand kids to shame. Of course, in doing so he was instilling that hard core work ethic. He didn't need to say, "look at what I do and learn from the example." No, he just let us want to make him proud.

Difficult seeing younger generations aspiring to that, now. Though some do surprise.

Had a cup of coffee yesterday. It was the only coffee I've had in at least a month, possibly longer.

With the cooler to cold weather coming along so too do the rats & mice. Have noticed they've started coming in.

Give some thought yesterday to letting Maow come in the house. Not our house so we have to bide her BIL, wanting no cats inside.

I thought his "ruling" could be damned. Then, I recalled for some unknown reason I've been volunteered for being the "better" person.

Sometimes the planet Neptune seems a good place to go. *sighs*

Insomnia is a no joke thing. Though I don’t like taking pharmacy medication, I do have some sleeping aid pills that I eventually resort to taking when my insomnia gets bad.

Roger that. I'm looking to invite that lady Mary Jane back into life, responsibly & legally. She at one time did seem to offer me some natural help. No, wasn't joking about insomnia aside from just the dang irony of it leaving me up way too early, then needing to nap during every one else's afternoons.

Melatonian (sp?), what I used of it once helped a bit as well. Rather not become too dependent on that though. With the other, yes, I can exercise a bit more control. Always recall my Pap's lesson about a rat and apple pies.

Moral: You can get too much of a good thing.

I can’t do medical Mary Jane due to my job (it is Federally based). Even if they were to eventually allow it Federally, in some capacity, I likely would not be able to partake.

It’s a brisk 33 degrees here this morning. I’m not ready for the cold that winter brings.

You should share the rat and apple pie story. I love the old tails.

Did a run to Dollar Tree this morning because I was down to one wine glass~! LOL had about 10 of them and I know I broke a few but really? Also picked up some other things like Cambells Pork and Beans and soups. Had to blow the leaves in the back yard because of that little storm yesterday they were all over in front of the patio. Had coffee outside but a bit chilly.

I went through about a month-long bout of insomnia recently, first time in my life that's ever happened to me. I couldn't tell you now what brought it on, but I do know how miserable it was, and I ended up having to get a scrip for some benzos to break that cycle. Normally I can sleep anywhere and at just about any time, and it seems I'm nearly that way again, but for that month I was running on empty.

Don't envy anyone who has chronic insomnia. My sympathies go out to you all.

The Rat & Pies
Tale by my Pap

Pap told of getting a half dozen full apple pies from an aunt. She was always baking stuff for family. This was during the Depression time. Her devotion to her family was priceless.

So Pap as a young man thought he would outsmart his family. On his way home with the pies he stopped by a barn. He took five pies and set them covered with a towel in there. He planned to return after supper to feast on his pies.

He took the final pie home and shared with is family. After supper he only one slice of pie. He knew he could sneak out from his upstairs room and go off to the barn for more. When he got there, Pap come across a huge rat fully distended. It was finishing off Pap's pies.

Sure enough the rat would not stop its gorging. Pap stood at a loss for what to do. Suddenly, the rat keeled over and to not be gross the rat was dead. Pap said he sure was glad he only had one slice of pie that evening.

He went back home and told his dad who chuckled. "Seems you got punished enough. Let you think on that," his dad told him.

I was up at 5AM also but not sure what time I fell asleep.

Wife was out "seeing a friend" and didn't get home until after 11. We both were in bed after that. Don't think either of us flopped and fought sleep much if any.

She watched this racy French show with me on tell lie vision yesterday. So I didn't mind her going to see her friend. Think the show we watched *ahem* wore us both out.

Now, if I could find a "friend" to go out and "see" we would be doing well. Sometimes I grow weary with our black & white tell lie vision set, the same as she does. Nice to go look at cabled tell lie vision in color at times.

I was watching a boring Football Game and nodded off.

Not much on football, either soccer or American pansy rugby. I might have sat watching it with you though. Hm, ah cage wall. *returns to his corner* (Reads "would write/say more but discretion tells me better to not")

Ah. I can say I watched the boring Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit movie on the Roku channel. It was like the third, sixth time I've seen it. Never ceases to amaze how much like watching drying paint it manages to be.

Wife just reminded me. "Well, you could always look up and watch Identity again." Told her that fell into the category with Killer Clowns From Outer Space, a big NO.

Morning Mr. Softshoe Scuffling. :) Too much sleep is as bad as too little sometimes. There's days I've just pondered making up a batch of ice cold water balloons and bombing the wits out of my wife, she sleeps so much. That is an entertaining fantasy. *chuckles*

Maybe you should just do that. She might be needing to knock the snot out of somebody just now. lol I feel that way sometimes, myself.

While y'all were watching boring shit, I was watching Adele on CBS. Adele ain't boring. Evah.

Mornin' folks. I got up on the feisty side of the bed this morning. The cold is making my knees hurt like crazy. Had to get out the Bengay, so now my whole house smells like old people.

Knew long ago she slept near all day. May seem contrary but me & her don't bother changing one another. That isn't saying we each don't grow, we do. At our core though we are each the same us we're going to be.

Figure if I doused her awake it'd be getting my killing done. Not sure I'd fight to save myself, even knowing that she likely die without me. And no, that's not a delusion, it's knowing our love.

I hope you know I was just messing with ya. No insult intended at all. My sense of humor can lean toward the brutal side sometimes, but I mean no real harm.

The only thing I try to change about my husband is this annoying habit he has of mindlessly scratching his upper thigh. He does it obsessively, and he does it in here where I'm trying to work. That movement catches just the very edge of my field of vision, and I can't concentrate on anything when he does it. (It's a nervous habit he's developed, like some people bite their nails, or twist their hair, stuff like that. Just drives me bonkers. I give him the Stare of Doom when he does it.)

Y'all know the Stare of Doom, I'm sure. Right? (Something my youngest kid came up with years ago, I always thought it was hysterically funny.)

So I decided I wanted more cameras for the NVR System but they were $70 each. By buying a 4 camera system with no HDD and a Coupon Code I got it for $115. So I will have cameras everywhere and a spare NVR. 3 Cameras alone would have cost more~!

Walked out onto back porch, thermometer says 37. Went back into the kitchen instead. I despise the cold, and I despise NY.

Florida is calling.

My son is there now. In the past week or 10 days he's been to Bradenton, Sarasota, Tampa, St. Pete, Dunellon, and Ocala. Yesterday he was complaining about the traffic in Ocala. I told him he should take a jog over to Orlando if he wanted to see traffic. He'd be happy as hell to get back to Ocala after that.

I've lived there twice, once about 40 miles inland from Tampa, when I was a kid, and then much later in Pensacola. I love the Gulf, but somebody who wants 'em can have the bugs, the lizards, the sand spurs, and the hurricanes. Oh, and the f'n 100+ degree heat with 80% humidity. That, too.

Lol, life is hard. But I'll take life in Florida any day. What on Earth is a sand spur?
I'm thinking about the Gulf coast. Tampa, Clearwater, St. Pete. Looking at a place called Largo. NOT Key Largo.

Oh, you run on down there and stick your bare foot out into the grass, and you'll know what a sand spur is. They're about the size of a green pea, but they're sand-colored with little spikes sticking out in every direction. They'll get stuck in the bottoms of your feet, or on slippers if they're made of fabric, on the bottom of the legs of your pants. They are a nasty surprise for the unprepared. If you hit the grass just right, you can get 10 or 15 of them in the bottom of one foot. It'll make even a 10-year-old use profanity. lol

I don't remember having them in Pensacola, but Central Florida is eat up with them.

Even with all of that, the Gulf coast of Florida is a treat. Like I said, I just love it. The hubbs and I have stayed in Crystal River a few times on vacation (it's a perfect place for old folks to go, because the pace of everything is slower than the Tampa/St. Pete area). We love the rivers, the airboat rides, and all the manatees in the early spring, but the beaches there are nothing to write home about. It's more "Old Florida." Destin, now, that is a gorgeous beach. Also Ft. Walton Beach. Both of those are up in the Panhandle. One place I haven't been but would love to visit is Appalachicola.
