I had an old house on the eastern plains of Colorado. We'd get high winds, and bitter colds, and deep snow. One year, we had a cold snap and temps dipped to -40°F. The pipes froze. The crawlspace on this house... where all the plumbing was in an addition put on in the 70s... was about 12 inches... maybe 18. I had to dig through the snow, chop through the frozen soil to get to the crawlspace, then wriggle into said space with solder, flux, and torch. I ended up under a split piece of copper pipe with no more than 6 inches clearance to the tip of my nose... my back in slush, my feet hanging outside in the frigid air, my nose blistering from the heat of the torch, but I got the job done.
That was nearly 20 years ago. I promise you now, I have no problems calling a plumber
