If you know me, you know that I am a lover of luxury.


Yes, I love luxury products and luxury experiences but not necessarily in the conventional sense.


I don't care as much about brand or label but more about how I feel while wearing or experiencing whatever it is.


To me luxury is synonymous to slow, intentional and more connected.


I would buy a gorgeous hand knit baby alpaca sweater that is a small name brand before purchasing a gucci sweater any day.


One represents luxury of genuine value to me and the other an inflated name.


My point in going down this rabbit hole of defining luxury is that luxury is definitely a word that is relative to the individual.


There are things in life that some would define as luxury and others would say are baseline non-negotiables.


Something that I have noticed over the years is that true health often falls into the category of luxury.


So many people (namely women) have normalized the experience of "just good enough" aka survival that when invited to invest in really optimizing every area of their health and being, they are filled with overwhelm, shame, guilt or just dismiss the idea all together.


The question "Who am I to deserve this?' is often secretly below the surface.


If I ever had an opportunity to speak to that voice, I would respond, "Who are you NOT to deserve it?"


One of the biggest things that has catapulted my self worth, business, income and relationships is acknowledging where I have let me health be in status quo.


While there are seasons of life where other things may take the forefront, what I know to be true for myself and all of my clients is that health should always be prioritized.


We create our realities and the more energy we have, the greater ease it will be to create from.


I recently spoke with a past client, Paige Michelle, about her experience in working with me.


She shares why she chose to invest and what the outcome of that investment was.

Options for Cardiac Bypass Surgery

Over the decades, there have been improvements in cardiac bypass surgery. These options are not for everyone, and traditional bypass surgery is generally recommended for most patients. But if you are faced with cardiac bypass, these new methods are worth inquiring about.

Special: Dr. Crandall's Healthy Habits to Stop and Reverse Heart Disease

Off-pump or beating-heart surgery. A heart-lung machine is not used during this type of surgery. Instead, the surgery is performed on a beating heart. Special equipment stabilizes the specific area of the heart being operated on.

This type of surgery can be challenging because the rest of the heart is moving. While not suitable for everyone, it may be better for patients who are elderly or who may be having cognition (thinking or memory) problems, because post-surgery thinking problems can occur from being on a heart-lung machine. These usually, but not always, resolve over time.

Minimally invasive surgery. A heart surgeon does the surgery through small incisions in the chest. Robotics and video imaging help the surgeon operate through the smaller areas. Minimally invasive heart surgery might be called port-access or keyhole surgery.

Can’t Stay Asleep? Study Findings Say “Eat More Fruits + Veggies”
According to experts, healthy adults should sleep between seven and nine hours per night. After noticing a rise in people with insomnia and those getting too little sleep, researchers in Finland examined the correlation between fruit and vegetable consumption and its impact on sleep—revealing a strong association.
For their study, researchers looked at data from 5,043 adults aged 18 and older participating in the National FinHealth 2017 Study. For the study, participants shared their sleep duration and dietary intake of fruits and vegetables. The researchers also looked at other factors such as socioeconomic status and demographics. They also used a sensitivity analysis to exclude “energy under-reporters” to remove that variable.
The researchers compared the average amount of fruits and vegetables eaten by people with different sleep durations—short sleepers (averaging 6 hours per night), normal (averaging 7.7 hours per night), and long (averaging 10.1 hours per night). They found that short sleepers consumed 37 fewer grams of fruits and vegetables a day than normal sleepers and long sleepers consumed 73 grams less per day. Plus, that correlation held true with a variety of statistical models.
Given the strong link between fruit and vegetable consumption and sleep duration, the researchers emphasized the importance of looking at lifestyle variables when treating sleep disorders. They also recommend focusing on the fruit and vegetable groups with the strongest association, such as leafy greens.

Vigorous Exercise May Lower Dementia Risk in Hypertensive Patients
People with high blood pressure are at higher risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease and related types of dementia. Research has long shown that physical activity can help to reduce cognitive decline. Now, a recent study published in Alzheimer’s & Dementia has found that getting vigorous exercise at least once a week was associated with a lower risk of developing cognitive impairment.
For this study, researchers at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine looked at data from the SPRINT MIND study, which looked at 9,361 US adults 50 and older without diabetes but with hypertension. This was defined as having an elevated systolic blood pressure (the pressure in the arteries when your heart beats) between 130 and 180 mmHg at the start of the study. Normal systolic blood pressure is below 120 mmHg.
During the trial, participants were asked how often they vigorously exercised over the past 12 months. Just about 60% of participants reported doing vigorous physical activity one or more times a week. The researchers then examined the association between that activity and markers of probably mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia.
What they found is that those who participated in vigorous physical activity at least once a week had a lower risk of developing mild cognitive impairment or dementia. This correlation was consistent across different subgroups, although there were some differences based on age and race—with some of the strongest benefits noted for those under 75 years of age. Plus, this association remained significant no matter how aggressively their blood pressure was treated.​

Plastic Cutting Boards Linked to Microplastics in Food

A significant portion of microplastic exposure comes from food, often leaked from common kitchen items like cutting boards. A 2023 study tested the amount of microplastics emitted by cutting boards during use. What they found is that using polyethylene or polypropylene boards could expose a person to significant amounts of microplastics annually, with some boards releasing over 1,000 particles per cut. Given the health risks of microplastics, experts recommend avoiding plastic cutting boards. (More)
