What are adaptogens?

Adaptogens are herbal wonders that help our bodies adapt to the various physical, chemical, environmental, and biological stressors we encounter daily.
They not only help your body cope with stress but also protect neurons from damage, reduce fatigue, and improve work capacity.
Adaptogens act as antidepressants, reduce anxiety, enhance cognition and learning ability, and improve recovery time from physical activity.

These powerful herbs work by interacting with the Hypothalamic-Pituitary-Adrenal (HPA) axis and the sympathoadrenal system, tweaking hormone production and physiological responses to ensure optimal body function.
They help the adrenal glands shut down more quickly and increase the body's receptivity to stress.

There are numerous adaptogenic herbs. The most well-known and researched include:
  • Rhodiola: Boosts physical endurance, productivity, mental performance, and immune function.
  • Ashwagandha: Reduces stress-induced nervous exhaustion, improves immune function, and supports physical performance and sleep.
  • Siberian Ginseng: Enhances mental clarity, emotional stamina, and physical endurance.
  • Schisandra: Increases physical and mental endurance, improves memory, and supports liver health.
  • Korean Ginseng: Improves attention, mental work capacity, and reduces cortisol levels.
  • Holy Basil: Enhances mental performance, immune function, and cardiovascular health.
  • Gotu Kola: Relieves anxiety, improves memory, and boosts circulation.

How to add adaptogens to your diet

Incorporating adaptogens into your diet is easier than you might think.
They come in various forms, including teas, tinctures, capsules, and pre-mixed powders for smoothies, soups, or salad dressings.
Just make sure to choose high-quality supplements for the best results.

Ready to combat stress naturally? Start incorporating adaptogens into your routine and experience their powerful benefits!

Hi Jim,

Are you feeling like you're running on empty, struggling to find time to refuel and recharge?
Maybe high stress from work, financial strains, or family tensions are making you feel overwhelmed?
In our fast-paced society, managing stress effectively is crucial to avoid burnout, which can impact both mental and physical health.

While lifestyle strategies like exercise, spending time in nature, meditation, yoga, and journaling are essential for coping with stress, there's also a group of incredible herbal remedies that can boost your stress tolerance.
These herbs are known as adaptogens, and they might be just what you need.

DIY Mindful Meditations Reduce Stress + Provide Fast Relief

In the past, guided mindful meditation required going to a studio or practitioner. Now, with the popularity of meditation books, websites, and apps, you can administer your own mindful meditations right at home—yet do they really work? A recent study suggests self-administered meditations are a highly effective way to reduce stress.

In a recent study published in Nature Human Behavior, researchers studied the effectiveness of four types of self-administered mindful meditation exercises on more than 2,000 study participants. These meditations included a body scan, mindful breathing, mindful walking, and loving-kindness meditation.

All four of these mindful exercises were effective, yet the body scan exercise had the most profound impact on reducing stress. A body scan involves systematically focusing on different parts of the body, mindfully paying attention to physical sensations, and bringing your attention back to your body when your mind wanders.

While these mindful meditation exercises should ideally be practiced regularly, the researchers found that they can provide fast relief for managing short-term stress—such as while sitting in a traffic jam when you’re late to a big appointment. Since they’re self-administered, you can lean on these tools any time you need them.

4 Lifestyle Changes That May Slow Alzheimer’s Progression

There is a well-established link between lifestyle and Alzheimer’s disease. Now, a recent study published in Alzheimer’s Research & Therapy has found that four lifestyle interventions may help to slow Alzheimer’s for those in its earliest stages.

In a 20-week study, researchers studied 51 adults aged 45-90 with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or early dementia caused by Alzheimer's disease. They divided them into two groups. One group was given standard care along with four lifestyle interventions: a whole-food minimally processed plant-based diet, 30 minutes of daily aerobic exercise and strength training, stress management techniques, and group support. The other group received standard care.

Researchers checked their memory and thinking abilities using tests like the Clinical Global Impression of Change (CGIC), Alzheimer’s Disease Assessment Scale (ADAS-Cog), and Clinical Dementia Rating–Sum of Boxes (CDR-SB) before and after 20 weeks of the study. They also looked at blood tests to see if anything changed due to the lifestyle help.

After 20 weeks, they found that people who got the lifestyle interventions did better on memory and daily tasks tests compared to those who didn't. Plus, their blood tests also showed some positive changes related to Alzheimer's. These findings underscore the importance of adopting a healthy lifestyle for those with early memory issues or Alzheimer's disease.

30-Second Daily Detoxifier + Energy Booster
Did you know that there are nearly 80,000 chemicals being used commercially in the U.S. alone? Thousands of these chemicals are now linked to toxic health effects and, unfortunately, the average person is exposed to hundreds of these chemicals every day. The good news is that detoxification can be WAY easier than it sounds with the Daily Detox superfood blend from Myers Detox. This tasty formula is packed with 29 superfoods – including the anti-inflammatory superstar turmeric, the “super detoxifier” chlorella, and antioxidant-packed green tea extract – that help your body detox while also supporting liver health, immunity, and energy levels. You can easily use it to make a potent “detox cocktail” that’s ready in 30 seconds or less to eliminate toxins WITHOUT fasting, dieting, or any other harsh fads.

Ashwagandha, an herb commonly used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine, is known for reducing stress and improving cognitive function. Now, a recent study has found that supplementing with 225 mg of ashwagandha improved memory, attention, and reaction times—both immediately and after 30 days of supplementation. Plus, the study participants felt less tension and fatigue. (More)

High Blood Pressure in Midlife May Lead to Cognitive Decline
High blood pressure is often called "the silent killer" because its first symptom can include a heart attack, stroke, or other heart event. While its detrimental effects on heart health are widely recognized, its impact on brain health is just gaining attention. Experts say high blood pressure affects the tiny arteries in the brain, which can not only increase the risk of stroke but could potentially lead to dementia. This association is the strongest in midlife. Here’s how you can protect your brain and overall health. (More)

6 Ways to Shift Your Metabolic Set Point & Lose Weight
To lose weight, many people think they need to boost their metabolism. Yet, experts say you’re better off focusing on shifting your body’s metabolic set point, also called your basal metabolic rate. This is the weight your body thinks you should maintain, even if it’s not a healthy weight. Here are six ways to change your metabolic set point—including not reducing your caloric intake too fast, since that can cause your body to conserve fat, not burn it. (More)

The primary function of the parathyroid glands is to produce parathyroid hormone (PTH). This hormone plays a vital role in regulating calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium levels in both the bones and the bloodstream, ensuring our body's proper balance and health. In the spirit of raising awareness and learning, we hope you enjoy the talk, Parathyroid and Osteoporosis with Dr. Deva Boone.

You'll learn:

  • How does the parathyroid affect bone health?
  • Impact on calcium and vitamin D
  • Diagnosing parathyroid disease
  • And more!
Best of all, you'll learn little-known information about the parathyroid glands and how they affect your health...
Dr. Deva Boone earned her MD from Cornell Medical College, completed a general surgery residency in New York City, and an endocrine surgery fellowship in Chicago, IL. She specialized in parathyroid surgery and joined the Norman Parathyroid Center in 2014. There, she performed over 3,600 parathyroid operations and consulted on calcium and parathyroid issues. Few surgeons worldwide have treated more parathyroid patients than Dr. Boone. She served as the medical director at the Norman Center from 2017 to 2020 before opening the Southwest Parathyroid Center in Phoenix, AZ, in 2020.

A devotion to your health means much more than the food that you eat and the workouts that you do. Overall health means focusing on your mental health. It’s a major factor to your overall health, arguably the most important. Below, we’ll explore how to care for your mental health by engaging in a creative hobby.

Creativity, and How It Affects Our Mind

Creativity, as a mental health tool, can be extremely effective. There’s a sort of rush you get from finishing a creative project, unparalleled by any other sort of work. Not only is there a rush from the finished product, but the flow state you achieve from the extreme focus given by the work itself is rewarding. In fact, these creative gifts are so wonderful that many people choose to lead their careers in a creative field in order to continuously be rewarded by creativity. People in the creative field tend to have more fulfillment by their work, a sense of meaning in what they do and overall happiness.
But why do we get that rush? And how come engaging in the creative process is so rewarding? Well for one, creativity can be an outlet for self-expression. With many people, most of their time is spent working in an environment that restricts self-expression, thus their creativity and sense-of-self are restricted. By engaging in a creative hobby, you can finally find a release for your self-expression.
Another reason why creativity is rewarding is because it’s hard. Not in the sense that running a triathlon is hard, but the entire process from ideation to creation is a difficult road filled with self-doubt and misery. But these are the very reasons why creativity is worth it, because despite all the reasons not to create, creatives still do. In a bout of defiance, you defy your own self-doubts and get to work creating.
Creativity also demands a lot, forcing the you to use all of their experiences and knowledge in order to create something new. This is why the best creatives are intentional in what they consume and thus consume a lot. This is because everything is and will be inspiration for creatives, they are a sort of hoarder of ideas and themes.

Implementing Creativity

You don’t have to be Picasso in order to weave creativity into your every-day life. A few creative hobbies include (but aren’t restricted to): cooking, writing, videography, photography, music, drawing or painting. Now, these are all activities devoted to creativity and are awesome hobbies to pick up but there is a lot of creative space in your life that can be filled up…
You can get creative with your workouts or regular running/biking route by intentionally choosing a different route or forcing yourself to stick to a certain pace for the whole workout. By challenging yourself to be creative, you’ll start to feel more fulfillment and a general aura of happiness that surrounds you in everything that you do. It’s that same feeling you get after a really good workout, a feeling of accomplishment because you’ve just done something that was really challenging.
So, we urge you all to get out there and get creative. Don’t be afraid to mix things up, to challenge old notions and most importantly, to challenge yourself. To engage in creativity is a sort of dare to yourself, challenging yourself to change old ideas into new and to create.

Our mental health is a key element of our overall well-being, yet it is often relegated to the background.

Many people, doctors inclusive, make the honest mistake of focusing on physical well-being and using medication when it all means nothing if your mental health is in shambles.

This neglect is why the NIMH estimated that more than one in five U.S. adults live with a mental illness (57.8 million in 2021).

Suffice it to say, this problem is all around us, but thankfully, so is the solution!

Scientific evidence reveals this: Eating the right food is one of the best things you can do for your mental health.

A recent study found that people eating a diet rich in fruits and vegetables — at least five servings per day — were more optimistic, more confident in their abilities, and less prone to depression.

Another study followed 166 people with depression, many on medication. After 12 weeks of eating a plant-based diet, their mental symptoms significantly improved.

And here's the kicker: these same natural foods do amazing things like blocking tumor formation, eradicating carcinogens, stimulating enzymes, and reducing inflammation and oxidation. They perform thousands of functions that are crucial to human health.

Are These Foods in the Room With Us?

Absolutely! I didn’t bring you this far to leave you hanging.

John Robbins, a huge advocate of using food as medicine, is sharing the secrets. You might know him from his best-selling book, Diet for a New America.

He and his son, Ocean Robbins (another best-selling author), will be talking on this essential topic in a Food For Health Masterclass.

>> Watch the Food For Health Masterclass for f.ree this week and transform your mental health

In this Masterclass, you’ll discover ten powerful food breakthroughs that can help you enjoy your happiest, healthiest, longest life and four of the most common health lies that most people still believe.

How to Make Your Angioplasty, Cardiac Bypass Last

By Chauncey Crandall, M.D.

Because heart disease is progressive, if you don’t change your lifestyle, your arteries will become clogged again after a bypass surgery. Here are some recommendations for avoiding a recurrence:

Special: Stay Sharp and Heart-Healthy: Unlock the Secrets of Longevity

Take all your medications as prescribed.

Quit smoking, and all other forms of tobacco use.

Lose weight. For most people, your ideal weight is what you weighed in high school, plus 15 pounds.

Meet your blood pressure goal. High blood pressure is defined as having a consistent reading of 130/80, and both numbers are important.

Lower your cholesterol. People with heart disease should aim for a total cholesterol level of 150 or less, a “bad” LDL cholesterol level of 50 to 70 or less, and a “good” HDL cholesterol level of 45 or higher.

Hi Jim,
Your eyes are vital to daily life. Today, I’m sharing with you some important information about taking care of your vision.
Are you aware of the risks associated with poor eye habits? Or, how aging can affect your eye health?
Let’s talk about the importance of your eyes…
Good vision is essential for performing everyday tasks, from reading and driving to enjoying the beauty of the world around us.
Making sure to keep your eyes protected can improve your quality of life and prevent the onset of various eye conditions below.
  • Cataracts: clouding of the eye's lens, can cause blurred vision and glare.
  • Age-related macular degeneration (AMD): affects the central retina, leading to loss of central vision.
  • Glaucoma: increased pressure within the eye, can damage the optic nerve and result in peripheral vision loss.
  • Diabetic retinopathy: a complication of diabetes, damages retinal blood vessels and can lead to vision impairment.
I recommend all my patients to get regular eye check-ups, even if you are not having any problems with your vision. I also suggest following the list below to protect your peepers.
12 Tips for Better Eye Health
1. Healthy Foods - Eat lots of fruits and veggies, carrots and spinach are good ones. Omega-3 fatty acids (you can find these in tuns, fish and olive oil).
2. Protect Your Eyes - Wear your safety glasses whenever you are working around dirt, dust or debris, or doing home improvement projects, or playing sports.
3. Avoid Dry Eyes - Keep your eyes moist by staying properly hydrated, and occasionally use some clean, moisturizing eye drops if needed.
4. Quitting Smoking - Smoking ups the odds of you developing age-related eye diseases. Quitting now can help prevent future damage.
5. Limit Screen Time - Gazing at screens can cause digital eye strain, leading to symptoms like dryness, irritation, and blurred vision. Remember to take regular breaks using the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds.
6. Do Not Rub Your Eyes - This can cause micro-scratches on your cornea and increase the risk of infection. If your eyes feel irritated, use artificial tears or a cold compress instead.
7. Avoid Poor Lighting - Reading or working in poor lighting conditions can strain your eyes. Ensure your workspace is well-lit and adjust your screen brightness to a comfortable level.
8. Wear Your Sunglasses - UV rays from the sun can damage your eyes and increase the risk of cataracts and macular degeneration. Always wear sunglasses with UV protection when outdoors.
9. Keep Sleep Regular - a regular sleep schedule helps reduce eye strain and keeps your eyes healthy. Aim for 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night.
10. Exercise - Physical activity improves blood circulation, which is beneficial for your eyes. Exercise helps lower the risk of conditions like diabetes, which can affect vision.
11. Take Care of Contact Lenses - If you wear contact lenses, ensure you follow proper hygiene practices. Clean and store them correctly to avoid infections.
12. Keep Stress Levels Low - Chronic stress can impact your eye health. Practice relaxation techniques like meditation or deep breathing to keep stress levels in check.

This is the first time we’re covering uterine and vaginal health - and I hope you will find it helpful…

I find it frustrating that there is a sense of resignation and forced acceptance created by the existing medical establishment - that we (women) need to accept being incontinent, experience pain down there, suffer through painful intercourse, and develop sudden infections only to be put on antibiotics.

My hope and intention is that this article opens your eyes to why this is happening to us especially in perimenopause and menopause and - more importantly - what you can do about it.

Btw, this is a highly personal topic for me because I suffered for 2 years of embarrassing incontinence before figuring it out. Then, my very dear colleague’s life was thrown upside down with a persistent BV diagnosis (after a few misdiagnoses).
In this article, we cover:

✅ Involuntary incontinence
✅ Vaginal infections: BV, candida, UTIs
✅ Fibroids, uterine polyps, and PMS (pain and bloating)
✅ Vaginal Atrophy: Thinning, pain, sensitivity, burning sensation “down there”

Each covers symptoms, reasons, and solutions.

Enjoy the read.

💕 Read the article 💕

Top 5 Reasons Never to Use Splenda
Splenda is marketed as a no-calorie, no-guilt sugar substitute. Blood sugar stable, it "passes right through" the body, so it's safe for diabetics AND you won't gain weight! Are these claims masking the ugly truth about this chemical imposter? As mounting research shows, when it comes to our diet, there is no free lunch.

Vaccine Science and Myth - A Conventionally Trained MD Speaks Out
I am a conventionally trained medical doctor who was taught, during the 1970s, how vaccines were a vital protection against infectious disease and responsible for the massive reductions in infectious disease. I now believe the opposite - vaccines are driving many diseases of Westerners from autoimmunity and autism to allergy and arthritis. Why so? What is the history of this volte face?

How Hesperidin Affects Cardiovascular Health

Russell Blaylock, M.D., writes:

Atherosclerosis is a major cause of heart attacks and strokes. Several studies have shown that hesperidin reduces atherosclerosis in blood vessels by lowering elevated blood pressure, repairing insulin resistance, lowering elevated blood sugar, and correcting abnormal blood lipids.

While few people know about the link, excitotoxicity plays a major role in atherosclerosis, heart damage, and arrhythmias. By suppressing excitotoxicity, hesperidin helps to reduce these cardiovascular problems.

Special: New Aging Research Reveals Key to Long, Healthy Life

Studies have also shown that hesperidin suppresses a major factor in atherosclerosis called foam cells (which are lipid-engorged macrophages). These immune cells infiltrate the walls of blood vessels, trigger inflammation, and interfere with lymphatic drainage of the blood vessels.

Over time, these foam cells can spill inflammatory fats into the walls of the blood vessels — or even worse, into the bloodstream. That can trigger the formation of a blood clot. And blood clots are the most common cause of heart attack or stroke.

Some 65% of diabetes patients die from cardiovascular complications. By lowering elevated blood sugar, correcting insulin resistance, and reducing free radicals and lipid peroxidation, hesperidin powerfully protects against cardiovascular-related deaths among diabetics.

And hesperidin corrects the same problems in people with metabolic syndrome.

This capacity for lowering blood pressure is thought to be related to hesperidin’s selective ability to increase nitric oxide in blood vessels, which improves microvascular blood flow.

But nitric oxide can be harmful in the presence of inflammation and free radicals. The fact that hesperidin is an antioxidant and nitric oxide is only elevated within the blood vessels — not the organs and tissues — means that hesperidin has unique benefits.

Adding nano-curcumin to hesperidin provides additional benefits for lowering blood pressure and preventing nitric oxide from causing damage.

🧠 The Brain Boosting Daily Dozen 🧠

Barbara was in a recent one of our Reversing Alzheimer’s coaching programs and at the end of the 12-week program we discussed the takeaways in our live group session. She shared her daily dozen with us that she put together from everything she learned in the program.

  1. Reach out to a loved one outside of your immediate family unit.
  2. Pray or meditate.
  3. Get outside.
  4. Brush and floss teeth at least twice a day.
  5. Declutter.
  6. Cook a meal and sit down to eat it.
  7. Exercise
  8. Garden, and put your hands in the dirt.
  9. Open doors and windows for an hour each day.
  10. Do at least one act of kindness.
  11. Read for at least 20 minutes.
  12. Get to bed earlier. Pick a time – 9:00, 8:30, 11:00 – whatever works for you! Getting to bed at a consistent time can be very beneficial for brain health

I love the Daily Dozen, but I don’t want to stop there because there are so many things you can do without pulling out the credit card.

🩸Donate Blood. If you are in a dementia prevention stage or a very early stage of cognitive decline, giving blood is a way to stimulate the production of new blood cells and eliminate some plasma that have built up toxins or inflammatory cytokines. It’s free and a way to help others.

🤝Socialize. Get together with friends. Join a book club or church group.

👟Take your shoes off indoors. Leave the toxins outside. Leave all the petrochemicals from walking across a parking lot outside. Leave behind the glyphosate (Roundup) that we pick up walking on sidewalks sprayed to eliminate weeds. If you want to wear shoes in the house, get specific shoes that you only wear indoors.

📺Turn the TV off. Notice when it’s on, doesn’t need to be, and turn it off.

🙋Volunteer.

🍎Choose whole foods over processed foods.

These are just a few ideas that can help you get started on your path to reverse or prevent cognitive decline. Pick one and start with it. Then slowly add on the others so that soon the Daily Dozen is part of your practice.

These may not require a big financial investment, but in doing so you will be making one of the biggest investments you can make in yourself, your brain, your body, and for your loved ones.

Warmly,

Hi Jimi,
Electrolytes play a crucial role in hydration, nerve function, and muscle contractions. And when you perspire, you’re not just losing water; you’re also losing electrolytes.
So do you need to start buying expensive “sports drinks”?
Here’s what you need to know about electrolytes.
Yours for healthy hydration,
Ocean Robbins
P.S. Today my beloved life partner, Phoenix, and I are celebrating 30 years of love. We’re so grateful for the love and support of the entire FRN community — including you!

Okay, Jimi....these two need to be split up! One is Good as in Push Like button.
Other very very Bad as in Push the Mad button.
Which one do I push, hmm?

I gave it one "love" vote because of the five states suing Pfizer, before I read the second part. Gawd, experimenting on unconscious people with Fentanyl? The medical industry is more dangerous than an undertow or a battlefield.
