Good day, Jim!
Did you know that 70% of deaths from chronic disease are preventable with lifestyle interventions?

It’s true!

What YOU do each day and the environment in which you live can have a huge impact on your physical and emotional health, regardless of your genetics.

It’s actually quite simple…

Because stress is what lies at the root of all chronic disease, the main goal of natural medicine is to identify the stressors -- inactivity, poor diet, toxic exposure -- and reduce their impact on the body to promote healing.

There is SO MUCH you can do in your daily life to build your health, and much of it is affordable and accessible!

--->>Learn to use natural medicine AT HOME when you attend this online event!

"You are what you eat." You've heard that before, right?

Even though there's so much truth to that statement, it's easy to think the foods in your diet don't matter THAT much... especially if you're exercising, sleeping, meditating, and checking off other healthy actions.

But to upgrade & optimize brain function, certain foods and nutrients need to be in your nutrition plan.

So here are 5 of my favorite foods to improve cognitive function, performance, & productivity: (Plus, I share my favorite way to incorporate them all simultaneously. Make sure to check it out below.)

1. Avocados naturally stimulate a consistent blood flow around the heart and through the brain, which is the secret to productivity. They're also loaded with fiber (11 to 17 grams per avocado), which helps decrease hunger pangs.

2. Antioxidant-rich foods, like berries, are excellent for increasing memory, and to prevent Alzheimer's and Parkinson's in the future. General rule of thumb: the darker the berry ⇒ the higher antioxidant property ⇒ more brain power ingredients.

3. Water may not be “food,” but since we’re made up of more than 70 percent water, every function depends on water to work smoothly. Water stores slowly deplete throughout the day so if you don't drink enough to replenish it, your brain and productivity suffer. Drinking ½ your body weight in ounces every day can give your brain the power it needs to be more focused, think more clearly and quickly.

4. Beets contain high concentration of nitrates which are naturally-occurring compounds that increase blood flow especially to the brain. A study in Nitric Oxide found that a high-nitrate diet rich in beetroot juice increased blood flow to regions of the brain responsible for attention and self-regulation.

5. Broccoli is rich in choline, an essential nutrient with powerful benefits in cognitive performance, brain development and memory function. It also has great fiber content and tons of important vitamins and minerals.

BONUS: Dark Chocolate (at least 70% cacao, above 80% is even better!). It's a good source of magnesium, which has been shown to enhance learning and memory in animal studies, and stimulate the release of endorphins and serotonin, which heighten your mood. (Also has small amount of caffeine.) Use it in small doses to improve your focus; don’t eat huge amounts everyday.

The nutrition strategy (ie "brain health-hack") I use EVERYDAY to incorporate foods like these into my life is with snacks and smoothies!! I love using smoothies as snacks, but I also like other healthy snacks too.

If you’re like me, healthy snacks are a critical part of our diet. So choosing brain healthy options is essential for my performance and productivity.

High Cholesterol? Check Your Thyroid

By Chauncey Crandall, M.D.

An article in a publication of the Harvard Medical School points out the connection between thyroid problems and cardiovascular disease.

The thyroid is a small, butterfly-shaped gland that wraps around the front of the windpipe. It’s the body’s “gas pedal,” controlling the rate of metabolism with the hormone secreted by this gland speeding up and slowing down the rate at which the body burns energy.

Secretions from the pituitary gland, a pea-sized organ located at the base of the brain, control the thyroid, stepping on the gas or backing off. The pituitary gland regulates the thyroid by secreting thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH).

Special: What Your Tongue Says About Your Thyroid. See the Photo.

Hypothyroidism shows up in a variety of other symptoms besides high cholesterol — so many, in fact, that their variety makes a proper diagnosis of hypothyroidism difficult. These symptoms include fatigue, cold intolerance, weight gain, fluid retention, slow pulse, enlarged thyroid gland, depression, dry skin, hair loss, constipation, joint pain, heavier menstrual periods, carpal tunnel syndrome, and, of course, high cholesterol.

The opposite condition — an overactive thyroid, or hyperthyroidism — has its own range of symptoms, including enlarged thyroid gland, heat intolerance, exhaustion, nervousness, weight loss, shortness of breath, and heart palpitations.

Both conditions can result in heart failure. An underactive thyroid is the more common culprit in heart disease, though. Hypothyroidism results in climbing cholesterol counts, and high cholesterol is the driver of cardiovascular disease.

The most common test for thyroid problems actually measures the TSH that the pituitary gland secretes. A high level generally indicates an underactive thyroid. An extremely low level indicates an overactive thyroid.

Measuring TSH alone often does not tell the complete story. If there’s any doubt, a full thyroid panel more directly measures thyroid hormone levels.

Hi Jimi,

Does the following scenario sound familiar?

You just spent time and resources on a cleansing, juicing, or raw food challenge program of some type and you are feeling good. Really good!

Now that the program is over, how do you maintain this experience of health you have achieved?

After all, you can’t stay on a cleanse forever…

Three decades ago, we found ourselves asking similar questions, because we had experienced many of the health benefits of raw food, read many books, attended many lectures and conferences, and spoke to many popular teachers of the time. These resources provided valuable information on how to create health.

This information was great, but it left us wanting more…

So we obtained doctorate level educations, researched a great deal, gained many years of clinical experience, and built on the foundation provided by our predecessors. All of this work culminated in the development of a comprehensive curriculum on plant-based and raw food nutrition that has served as the blueprint for our dietary success strategies for over three decades each.

This resource is our 12-month Mastering Raw Food Nutrition online and interactive program.

The course provides 2+ hours of information-dense multi-media content per week, comprehensive notebooks, and 3-4 times monthly live video conferences directly with us in small groups to answer your questions. In other words, we are here to support you in your journey with us the whole way.

The course is presented in easily relatable terms appreciated by people with and without a nutrition or science background. We are known for our ability to convey accurate and detailed science-based information in this easy to understand manner.

If you are really serious about taking your understanding of plant-based and raw food nutrition to the highest level, and are ready to commit about 200 hours over the course of a year for a truly life changing education, we invite you to set a time to speak with us to determine if Mastering Raw Food Nutrition is a good fit for your needs:

https://masteringrawfoodnutrition.as.me/

We look forward to speaking with you soon!

Dr. Rick Dina, D.C.
Dr. Karin Dina, D.C.

PS: Mastering Raw Food Nutrition 2020-2021 has just begun so book a time to speak with us now if you want to join us for this years class!

Protect Kids’ Skin Now for Lifelong Health

By Dr. Oz and Dr. Roizen, MDs

In 1953, Coppertone suntan lotion debuted one of the most iconic product images ever: the Coppertone girl, who sported a surprised look as a puppy pulled down her swimsuit bottoms, revealing some serious tan lines.

Decades later, thankfully, Coppertone's slogan transitioned from "don't be a paleface" to "advanced sun protection." They caught up with research that showed a tan isn't good for your skin — or your survival.

Special: Oncologists Stunned: Better Than a Dose of Radiation Therapy?

Yet despite widespread conversations about the risks of sun damage, many parents are still unaware of the dangers of sun exposure and uninformed about sun protection.

According to a recent national poll conducted by C. S. Mott Children's Hospital at Michigan Medicine, 11% of parents of kids ages 5 to 12 say they don't have a specific minimum SPF they use on their children, and 3% report their kids don't use any sunscreen.

The consequences of that are farther reaching than a painful burn and a poor night's sleep. Even one sunburn in childhood raises the risk of cancer later in life. Starting today, protect your child from the sun's harmful rays:

• Keep newborns out of the sun. For other kids, limit sun exposure while the sun is strongest — 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

• Use a micronized zinc oxide with an SPF of 30 to 50. Steer clear of all other ingredients. Apply it on cloudy days too. And give kids a hat and UV-protective clothing.

• Apply sunscreen every two hours; more frequently if a child is swimming or sweating. No sunscreen is waterproof.

The Real Cure for Heart Disease: Change

By Chauncey Crandall, M.D.

Follow-up visits after a cardiac event are perhaps the most important thing to prevent a reoccurrence of a heart issue. The general rule is for patients to schedule a visit with their heart doctor once a month for the first six months and every two months during the following six months.

These visits are all-important in the education process that must take place if the patient is going to successfully implement the recommended changes in his or her life.

Special: You May Have Heart Attack Risk Factors . . . And Not Know It.

The habits of eating fatty foods and getting little exercise are usually ones that a patient has developed over the course of years and years.

Reversing these habits is difficult — even with one’s life on the line! Rarely are patients able to make changes immediately and continue with them for long without a system of accountability. Regular visits with the doctor are crucial to keeping patients on track.

Lifestyle changes can gather momentum. The more a person implements the recommended changes, the better he or she feels. This positive feedback promotes additional change.

Yes, it’s true.

There are no strings attached.

Here’s the story...

In 2012, 7Song and I produced a course on herbal first aid at his school in Ithaca, NY.

The course is very in-depth, covering foundations in first aid, skills demonstrations, materia medica, a plant walk... and so much more. There are 65 videos in all! You can just watch the videos you need or watch every single training, which is the equivalent to a week-long workshop.

One of 7Song’s passions is training people to be street medics, especially for large gatherings. He has decades of treating folks at Rainbow Gatherings and many street protests under his belt. 7Song runs one of the top herbal schools for preparing people for this kind of work. He is all about hands-on and practical herbal medicine.

With so many people needing herbal information these days, 7Song and I wanted to give away our course. There was no point in having it gather dust in the vault when so many could benefit. 7Song was more than happy to share it for free with the world.

LearningHerbs community, I am proud to present Herb First Aid with 7Song...

Though I posted the entire training on YouTube so everyone could access it any time, I also created this URL that will take you there directly...

HerbFirstAid.com (if you forget this URL, just search for something like "herbal first aid 7Song" on YouTube.)

Our hope is that Herb First Aid with 7Song will prepare thousands of herbalists, whether folks are volunteering at large gatherings or simply helping their families at home.

Thanks to you using and sharing this information, this course will most likely save lives and help many injured people.

I am so grateful for your support and trust in LearningHerbs over the past 16 years.

7Song and I hope you enjoy Herb First Aid.

In health,

John Gallagher
LearningHerbs

Hi Jimi,

Let’s face it – a lot has changed over the last few months!

From days stacked upon days spent running around, chasing our kids, going back to school, working full-time, trying to maintain a loving relationship with your partner, keeping up with your friends so you won’t lose your support network when you need it, grocery shopping for nutritious certified organic and plant-based ingredients that are ethically sourced…

Whew!

Take a breath. How do you feel?

Tired? Low energy?

We’re exhausted!

How could you not be exhausted?

Most of the time, we really are our own worst enemies. We know what we have to do to get the things we want.

The internet is saturated with information on self-improvement.

The secrets of health in a basic sense are really not secrets – we know to skip the processed foods, drink a ton of water, get good sleep, and exercise.

And yet, how many of us are living the lives of our dreams?

How many of us are even on the path?

How many of us consider our dreams within reach?

The really scary truth, though, is that being genuinely, legitimately, chronically exhausted from your cells to your fingertips is a great reason not to pursue your goals and reach your true potential.

And as long as that’s in the way, and no one can question how tired you really are, we can sort of sit back on our heels and content ourselves with another night of binge-watching TV and snacking on chips, knowing we could be really great, if not for this pesky chronic fatigue…

Or, we could roll up our sleeves, decide this is no way to live, and commit to understanding our exhaustion so we can overcome it.

That’s what natural healing experts Dr. Pedram Shojai and Nick Polizzi set out to show us when they gathered more than 50 of the world’s top functional medicine experts together, and interviewed them for thousands of hours about exhaustion.

  • What causes it?

  • What is going on at the molecular level we’re not even aware of? How do we begin to find out what we don’t know?

  • How do hormones, the microbiome, our diets, our physical activity all affect mitochondrial function in our cells?
In this nine-episode docu-series replay weekend, they dig deep into the human body to answer all of that and so much more.

To getting your energy back,

The VegHealth Team

P.S.- This docu-series is totally free! All you have to do is click here to sign up to watch it, and you will have full access to the replay weekend August 29 & 30. Pay attention to your inbox!

Hi ,

Four years ago I finally had answers...

I had lost my mom to cancer as a teenager and was at a loss as to why that may have happened...

"Bad luck" is probably the most common response by doctors but we all know that's just doctor-talk for "I don't know, leave me alone..."

So when I learned about the power of nutrition (for good or bad!), I just had to do what I can to get the word out...

That's how the Plant Fit Summit was born four years ago...

And as of right now, you can claim your spot for the 2020 summit here!

Unfortunately, it’s not all good news. Earlier this year Luke, my co-host, lost his brother to cancer. It's devastating on so many levels. To lose a loved one when all your life is about helping others... So when COVID hit, we knew we had to make this year's summit extra special.

We went back to the drawing board and created a brand new summit for these surreal times.

Check out the 2020 Plant Fit Summit here.

Each of the 9 summit days will have a unique focus and solve one piece of the puzzle (cancer risks being one of them!)...

And we've added six bonus interviews with change makers like Dr. Vandana Shiva, Damien Mander (who joined Sir David Attenborough and Dr. Jane Goodall as recipients of the Winsome Constance Kindness Gold Medal) and others you don't want to miss.

This summit will be life-changing on many levels and answer the most urgent questions on health, fitness and mindset.

So click here and sign up now.

I'll share more details on the summit and some sneak previews over the next weeks so look out for our emails...

Thank you and I can't wait to share everything with you!

Yours in health,

Tobi

Dear Jimi,
Do you feel overwhelmed by the climate crisis? Like it’s such a huge problem that a single person can’t make a difference?
During WWII, 20 million victory gardens in the US produced 8 million tons of food—that’s around 40% of the fresh fruits and vegetables consumed at the time. That’s why we’ve teamed up with Green America to do it again, but this time for people and the planet.
Act for the climate now by growing a Climate Victory Garden!
Climate Victory Gardening is all about protecting and building healthy soils. This healthy soil sequesters carbon from the atmosphere and stores it in the ground.
Join thousands of individuals and communities around the country taking meaningful, collective action on the climate through Climate Victory Gardening. Help us reach our goal of 10,000 gardens.

Gardening for the climate is something everyone can do—whether you have a sunny windowsill or a football field-sized backyard. And, it’s easy. Chances are, if you’re a gardener, you’re probably already doing some things that capture and offset carbon emissions.
Never gardened before? Not a problem. We answer all your garden questions, from beginner “how tos” to advanced Climate Victory Gardening tips for seasoned gardeners.
The best part? These healthy soils aren’t only part of the climate solution, they also help your crops and garden grow.
Add your garden in the fight for the climate today!

Thanks for rolling up your sleeves to really dig into the climate crisis.

Hello-

A couple of days ago I sent out an email about liver support, and how it can help us to eliminate symptoms, fast– even when it seems like we’re reacting to everything in our environment (and oftentimes, especially then!).

It’s no secret that toxins can trigger Hashimoto’s, and in today’s environment, we are exposed to more toxins than ever before. Sadly our livers are often overburdened, and we end up paying the price in the form of chronic health conditions and stubborn symptoms.

While we can’t all live in a bubble, we CAN educate ourselves to make informed choices and dramatically reduce our toxic exposure. We can also help our bodies to process and eliminate the toxins that may be triggering our Hashimoto’s, and heal!

Knowing what’s in your personal care products, your food (think genetically modified ingredients, pesticides, insecticides, etc.) household products, and even your mattress is an important first step.

When we know what to look for, we can make informed choices, so today I wanted to share a few common thyroid, immune, and endocrine toxins to be aware of when scanning your ingredients and choosing products.

  • 2, 4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic (2,4-D) - This known endocrine disruptor can block hormone distribution and cause glandular breakdown. It’s used on lawns and to grow GMO foods, and has been associated with neuritis, weakness, nausea, headache, and dizziness.
  • Phthalates – Found in many bath and beauty products, oral pharmaceuticals, insect repellants, adhesives, inks, and varnishes, and have been linked to cancer, autoimmunity, and organ damage.
  • Acrylamide – Often used in plastics, food packaging, cosmetics, dyes, and drinking water treatment, and may be found in foods such as potato chips, french fries, asparagus, potatoes, legumes, nuts, seeds, beef, eggs, and fish. Acrylamide can cause neurological damage and high levels can elevate risk of cancer.
  • Acrolein – Exposure can occur through eating fried foods, drinking alcoholic beverages and even water, as well as through inhalation of automobile exhaust. Acrolein exposure can contribute to immune dysfunction, and it’s metabolites have also been linked to diabetes and insulin resistance.
  • Acrylonitrile - This colorless liquid is used in the production of acrylic fibers, resins, and rubber, and can also be found in cigarettes. Exposure can lead to headaches, nausea, dizziness, fatigue, and chest pains.
  • Styrene - Used in plastic manufacturing, building materials, and can be found in car exhaust fumes. Polystyrene and its copolymers (derived from styrene) are widely used as food-packaging materials and can leach into food. Excessive inhalation of styrene can lead to disruptions in the central nervous system and concentration, muscle weakness, fatigue, and nausea, and irritates the mucous membranes of the eyes, nose, and throat.
  • Xylene - Found in paints, lacquers, cleaning agents, pesticides, and gasoline. High exposure may cause nausea, vomiting, dizziness, incoordination, and central nervous system depression.
  • Vinyl chloride - Used to create polyvinyl chloride (PVC), and was previously used as an aerosol propellant. High exposure may cause central nervous system depression, nausea, headache, dizziness, and liver damage.
  • Propylene oxide - Used to make plastics, lubricants, polyester resins, and as a fumigant. It has also been used as a food additive, herbicide, insecticide, and fungicide. Exposure can cause corneal burns, dermatitis, and DNA damage.
Now I know looking at that list can feel a bit overwhelming – it sounds like toxins are looming around every corner. And on top of that, those of us with Hashimoto’s are already dealing with an impaired ability to remove toxins... but I have really good news: There ARE simple tools and resources that you can use to support your liver so that it can do its job!

For starters, sweating is a very effective way to remove toxins from the body. I encourage you to consider using a sauna, or adding gentle exercise to your weekly routine. Even sitting outside and working up a little sweat while getting some extra vitamin D is helpful!

Lemon water also supports detoxification processes (simply squeeze the juice of a lemon into a glass of water and enjoy!), as well as N-acetyl cysteine (NAC). In fact, the body digests NAC into glutathione, which is an antioxidant that not only supports liver function, but also helps the liver clear out heavy metals and other toxins.

Dear Reader,

It’s a shocking but little known fact

Weak lungs makes you FIVE times more likely to die from heart disease.

Do you know how strong your lungs are?

Your doctor probably checks your blood pressure every time you visit, but not your lung strength – even though the simple and painless test to measure it literally takes a single second.

And strong lungs mean longer life.

And it’s a CRITICAL, but over-looked indicator of your overall health.

To learn what it is (and how to naturally improve it), click here.

Sincerely,

Karen Reddel
President
OmniVista Health Learning

P.S. In my decades of experience reporting on major health breakthroughs, I can honestly say I’ve never seen a protocol address the neglected sphere of lung health. But breathing is what keeps us alive one moment to the next. Weak lungs result in MORE lung disease, MORE heart disease, MORE diabetes, and multiply your risk of premature death. Follow these simple steps today to strengthen your lungs, breathe better and LIVE LONGER.
