During my mindset training in the
Eliminate Your Limits system, we learn about the actual physical neurology of mindset.
That is, how neural pathways are formed in the brain (Remember, mindset is not a meta-physical, woo woo afterthought to your physical brain health.)
Last week, I shared how your brain interprets INPUTS to create OUTPUTS. Your brain assesses whether the things happening around or within you (the inputs) are safe or unsafe.
Depending on your brain’s answer, it will determine whether the input leads to a SURVIVAL or PERFORMANCE output… and you cannot have both at the same time.
Your brain’s main job is your survival; to keep you alive at any cost. So if your brain has any doubt, it will interpret the input as "unsafe" and survival will always win (ALWAYS!). As long as you brain feels safe, then it can help you perform.
Survival outputs include pain, anxiety, depression, fatigue, inflammation, lowered resistance to infections, declining memory and cognition (and hundreds more).
Remember from last week... to change the outputs, we must focus on changing the inputs
So then, what are the inputs?
There are PHYSIOLOGICAL & MINDSET (or psychological) inputs which are either:
1) EXTERNAL - Your brain takes inputs from the OUTSIDE world, asks “is it safe?,” and determines what output needs to be generated. Sound, sight, smell, touch, taste, and balance are all types of external stimuli.
Or
2) INTERNAL - This is input from INSIDE your body that your brain is interpreting. Your heart rate, breathing, digestion, hormones, neurotransmitters, along with your thoughts, emotions, beliefs, logic, knowledge, culture, previous experiences, and memory are all internal stimuli.
Your brain processes the BILLIONS of physical and mindset inputs from inside and outside your body (in milliseconds), and determines what output it needs to survive.
If it feels safe, you can heal and perform. If not, it takes you into a survival state.
The problem: We are constantly overloading our brains with unhealthy inputs that create survival outputs!
The great news: This process is learned. That means the brain can be retrained.
It can heal. It can get into a performance state.
Cognitive decline, dementia, Alzheimer’s and all other brain dysfunction are simply survival outputs.
That means if you change the inputs using mindset, nutrition, exercise, movement, sleep, posture, and other lifestyle measures...
... you can retrain your outputs to clear thinking, focus, improved memory, and reverse cognitive decline and prevent Alzheimer’s.
