*-- What Makes You Feel Calm? --*​

Truthfully, this is one of my go-tos while I'm at work, at home or on the go. Writing down a to-do list, then prioritizing all of the tasks on my mind gives me a sense of clarity and focus when I'm feeling stressed.

Candles also seem to be a fan favorite. The ritual of burning candles can be very relaxing and typically citrus and floral fragrances is a great balance of the two. The scent is comforting and tranquil yet allows people to escape.

A lot of people have been leaning towards meditating to help settle down. It seems to be best first thing in the morning or the last thing you do before you go to bed. You can download apps that can provide helpful guidance and encouragement. When your mind is spinning at night, they also offer great guided sleep meditations, too!

Salt lamps are a hit right now. You can keep one on your bedside table or even a small one on your desk at work! Some people say that they instantly feel calmer as soon as they turn the lamp on. There's something about the warm, yellow glow that makes any room way more peaceful.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that 1.35 million Americans are sickened by Salmonella infections every year — leading 26,500 Americans to be hospitalized and 420 to die annually.
These deaths should be preventable by treating the infections with antibiotics, but Salmonella is becoming more resistant to antibiotics the more we use (and overuse) them.
That’s why we’re so pleased that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has introduced a promising new plan to prevent Salmonella poisoning at its source. USDA’s Proposed Framework for Controlling Salmonella in Poultry is the type of preventive measure we should be investing in to keep our food safe so that we can preserve effective antibiotics for when we really need them.
USDA is soliciting feedback on this new plan during U.S. Antibiotics Awareness Week — an annual week of observance to raise awareness of the threat of antibiotic resistance and appropriate antibiotic use. What better way to celebrate U.S. Antibiotics Awareness Week than by showing your support for USDA’s new plan to prevent Salmonella infections?
Tell USDA to protect us from Salmonella in chicken and turkey!
The new plan makes the most of CDC’s determination that out of 2,500 strains of Salmonella, just three strains of Salmonella cause about 1/3rd of the 300,000 human illnesses from chicken and turkey each year.
USDA’s three-part plan would institute the following safety measures to prevent Salmonella contamination before the poultry reaches store shelves. The plan consists of:
  • Enhanced monitoring for Salmonella during processing by testing at multiple stages
  • Establishing a maximum level of bacterial contamination involved which limits the three types of Salmonella likely to make people sick
  • Testing chickens and turkeys as they enter the slaughterhouse for the three types of bacteria
Officials are also hopeful that requiring testing of chickens and turkeys before they go to slaughter may encourage farmers to adopt practices that reduce bacterial infection of the bird in the first place.
Tell USDA to protect us from Salmonella in chicken and turkey!
Much of the responsibility of preventing food poisoning has unfairly fallen on consumers’ shoulders in the past. My favorite thing about this new plan is that it requires government agencies and the meat industry to take extra measures to ensure meat is safe by the time it reaches grocery store shelves instead. Yes, that’s the way it always should have been, but I’ll take it all the same.

At our last Retreat in Sarasota, our private chefs from PlanIt Events made one of my favorite recipes - Bison Stuffed Acorn Squash.
Fall is a wonderful time of the year as the seasons are changing so do the vegetables! Acorn squash has been around for hundreds of years and is well known for its nutrients.
Winter squash can sometimes get a bad reputation for its 18 grams of carbohydrates per 1 cup, but the steady release of sugars inside of our digestive tract after the squash is eaten indicates the squash to be a low glycemic, nutrient-dense vegetable.
Wild game such as bison is a great source of protein, iron, B 12, niacin, zinc, and selenium. Bon Appétit!

BANANA OAT WAFFLES (OR PANCAKES)​

INGREDIENTS
• 1 ripe freckled banana
• 1 cup rolled oats
• ½ cup plant milk
• 1 tbsp maple syrup
• 1 tbsp chia seeds
• 1 tsp vanilla bean powder
• 1 tsp baking powder
• pinch of salt
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Place all ingredients in blender and blend until smooth.
2. Pour batter into waffle iron and close. Allow to sit for about 2 - 3 min and remove waffle.
*Note: Can use oil or vegan butter if sticking occurs. Recipe can also be used for pancakes.

Today I’m talking about the spectrum of our feelings- your pain 🤕, and your pleasure😊.

Meet Julie and Cindy, two cases on their Hashimoto's journey.

Julie was dealing with digestive issues, headaches, lots of skin rashes and irritation, brain fog, and fatigue , and Cindy was experiencing hormone imbalances, fatigue, and a low sex drive...

Both cases are different and yet similar at the same time. Their uniting factor: frustrating symptoms they wanted to eliminate

Julie’s issue was actually part of Mast Cell Activation Syndrome - something that is quite common with Hashimoto’s and other autoimmune issues.

You might now know that Mast Cell Activation Syndrome has lots of unpleasant symptoms that are very similar to Hashimoto's such as:

❌ Pain in the muscles and joints

❌ Brain fog

❌ Fatigue

❌ GI issues

... and so many more.
