“Exercise is not the problem... it reveals the problem.”
Happy Sunday, my fellow health and fitness enthusiast.
When I hear someone giving up exercise because it 'caused' a new pain, an obscure soreness, an unfamiliar symptom...
It makes me sad.
You know how much I love workin' out, exercising, and training.
All the way back to when I was a kid - playing whiffle ball, baseball, football, you name it, with my brothers and neighbors in the backyard...
Lifting weights and doing sprints with my friends when I got into junior high...
And up until this day,
still prioritizing movement and exercise into my daily routine.
I'm a firm believer that movement and exercise
by itself is never bad...
But, it can be damaging if you're not ready for it.
Often, it's the
lifestyle outside of 'exercise time' setting you up for pain, strains, sprains, pulls, and soreness:
Working hunched over your computer for prolonged periods...
Losing track of time while scrolling social media on your phone...
Slumped on the couch playing solitaire or candy crush on your iPad...
Reading endless emails in your inbox (except mine, of course...

)
You see, prolonged inactivity lets things tighten up and decay.
Posture distorts. Balance falters. Strength weakens. Flexibility erodes.
When that happens, and
THEN you add unfamiliar movements or exercises into the mix...
Or, you introduce an intense routine to your unprepared body...
Painful flare-ups, localized soreness, and inflammation CAN happen.
But, that
reveals vulnerability in your body versus creating it.
Yes, I know that movement and exercise is irreplaceable for my posture, strength, balance, and staying pain-free for life.
But, it doesn't really matter if I know, does it?
It matters that YOU embrace it, YOU love it, and YOU feel the results you get from it.
You're meant to move.
Your body thrives on frequent movement.
So, instead of throwing the baby out with the bathwater, let's just learn how to do it the healthy way...
And I have just what the doctor ordered
